OVER 1,560 vacant posts, which are reserved for the physically disabled in
the state have to be filled by the end of this year as per the order of the
Bombay High Court. The court also directed the government to submit a report
naming the buildings where it has already constructed elevated ramps. A
division bench directed the state to fill up all the vacant posts by
December 31, 2005, while hearing a public interest litigation filed by
Indian Legal Society Aid Centre praying that the state implement the
provisions of the Persons With Disabilities Act and reserve posts for the
physically challenged in government departments. The additional advocate
pleader told the court that the government has identified the posts and the
government was in the process of filling these posts as per an earlier HC
order.
