Dear friends,

One of the ways to build a nation is creating high self-esteem and
confidence in the children/younger generation. An adventure and nature
study camp is a vehicle I have chosen to fulfill this mission. Supporting
our associates “Nisarg Mitra” (nature friends) through creating awareness,
registrations & volunteering in such camps is a way to express myself.

We have organized 4 days camp from 26 – 29 Oct. at the base of Prabalgad
near Panvel. This four days are filled with adventure and other interesting
activities like River Crossing, waterfall rappelling, rafting, rock
climbing, treasure hunt, bridges, swimming, star gazing, pottery, first aid
introduction, nature study, snake demonstration & life-saving skills.

Camping with children, facilitating the learning is what I love. And this
time there were 72 participants from the age 9 – 20. When one volunteers,
serving is always at back of mind, however what was available for me was
receiving what the children has given me. The flow of energy, enthusiasm,
desire to grow, supporting and caring for each other, the list is endless.
On the top of it what nature bestows on you is uncountable.

Little children chirping around you for four days, their undaunted energy,
ability to grasp and listen, respect to their didis and dadas and still
being naughty, teasing someone who’s fatso, complaining teasers, facing
fears, I can’t do this activity its tough, adjusting in the tents, eating
simple food instead of pizzas and chocolates, washing their own plates, no
TV, why to get up so early, can I call my mother and many questions to ask
made me more patient, flexible and deepened my listening.

I went to teach them life skills and in turn they taught me so much. I felt,
what I can give them so little, instead what they have taught me cannot be
even learned in best of the universities in the world. When I introspected
the context of mine was serving & in return I got served in abundance.

What I learned from my other Nisarga Mitra volunteers is of great value
again. We were an army of volunteers with leader in each one of them whether
he was a college student or a working professional. There was no
discrimination. Everyone was a ready to take on any job whether it’s taking
an activity, pitching tent or serving the food. The focus was to leave each
and every participant including them a lifetime value and a Josh to move
forward in life.

I realized when the canvas of ones mission is large; vehicles to express
that mission may be many like job, family, hobby, social activity and so on.
Every activity that one does enriches within rather than tearing apart with
stress.

So what’s your canvas? And what role are you playing? I will be glad to hear
from you and support you in your mission.

Warm regards,
Sangeeta Bhurke.
