The walk was held on the 8th of October 2006 on the occasion of the World Mental Health Week, as celebrated by NAMI. It commenced from NCPA seaside at 9.30 a.m. and ended at HELP Library, CST. About 70 people participated in the walk. The chief guests who participated in this walk were Mr.Mahesh Bhatt, Film Producer and Director, Dr.Y.Matcheswalla, President, Bombay Psychiatrist Society, Dr. Anjali and Dr.Annirudha Malpani, Medical Directors, HELP Library, and Ms.Akila Maheshwari of NAMI . Representatives from organisations like Dilaasa and Kshitij Mental Health Centre were also present.
There was a brief gathering at HELP. The Chief Guests spoke on coping with patients with mental disorders, caregiving to the mentally sick, and the role of the parents and the society in accepting the mentally sick and to stop stigmatising the mentally ill. With a little understanding from the society as well as doctors a lot can be done for them. They also spoke on amending the Disability Act, The National Trust Act, and The Rehabilitation Council Act. Refreshments were served at HELP.
We are attaching some pictures of the event.
