ALMs network closely with BMC   Message List

Residents and ALMs in Bandra are now working closely with the BMC to resolve civic issues in their area under an initiative called the Local Area Citizen’s Committee (LACC).

A project initiated by the BMC, LACC involves weekly meetings between BMC officials and residents of the area, which are held at various localities. The LACC was introduced in Bandra by Anil Khoje, H-west ward officer, on Oct 28.

How the LACC works

• Everyone can attend “While ALM members need no prior permission to attend the meetings, non-members just need to get an approval from the local official in-charge of LACC,” says Bharti Kakkad, a member of the Union Park ALM.

• Meet officials who look into issue “Residents can now interact with junior officers who actually look after the area and handle their problems,” explains Khoje.

• Colour-coded system determines priority “Issues are colour-coded on the basis of priority. The issues marked red are to be attended immediately, orange takes about a week and issues marked green take longer. So people know exactly how long their problem should take to be resolved,” says Valerian Fernandes, member of St Leo’s Road ALM.

• Small group, enough time Fernandes explains, “In the monthly meetings, not everyone got adequate time to present their cases. These weekly meetings give us enough time to discuss all issues.”

Admits Khoje, “As it is a small group there’s better interaction between the officers and residents.”
