Civic commissioner Johny Joseph has now announced the formation of an
improvement committee to convert the zoo into a nature interpretation centre.
Headed by additional municipal commissioner Subrat Ratho, the committee will
include civic officials and experts. The panel is
expected to submit a report within a month.

"Once the committee submits its report, we will take steps to convert
the 32,000 sq m zoo into a nature interpretation centre. This would mean that we
will create natural settings for the animals to live in,'' said Joseph.

ZOO INMATES: 217 animals, 25 species 398 birds, 38 species 60 reptiles, 10
species
