Thank You for the support!!
Things are very chaotic here right now, and I'm sure I'm not the only one
who is very frightened to see what is next. It makes you hug your kids a
little closer tonight when you tuck them into bed, and thank God you are
still here to tuck them in, unlike all those people who have died today. I
watched live on TV when the 2nd plane hit, and about fell over at the sight
of all those people who died at that very moment.
Once again, thank you for you note of support, and hopefully, the worst is
over.

That is *such* a relief - thank you Melissa! I hope that the rest of the
list will pass this on to the hobby community, as I know many are very
concerned.

Thanks Cathy! Sorry it took me such a while to approve your message... Yahoo
didn't notify me and I didn't see it until now when I logged in to approve
another one.
Would you by any means have any of her original emails? By means of tracing
the IP address she can actually be traced right down to the very place she
emailed from (and I do mean the very phone jack that the computer was
plugged in to). It has to be turned over to the authorities for examination
- with her history I have no doubt they'll investigate.

Hi Mariah,
I'm not sure if you've already heard from these
people, but Elizabeth Bouras, Judy Renee Pope, their
roomie Paula, and Geralyn P., all who live in DC
and/or NY, are all okay and don't have any
missing/injured loved ones as far as we know... Just
wanted to let you know in case you haven't already
heard! :)

Hi all -
I've been watching CNN since about 20 minutes after the planes crashed into
the World Trade Center.
I'm in total shock and my heart and prayers go out to the entire US and of
course all of those who have been injured or killed and their families.
I have so many beloved friends in the US, and this has naturally had a
tremendous impact on me. I hope that you and your loved ones are all safe
and sound.

Hello all -
Although this information is probably useless by now, I'd like to pass on
the info I received from Lynn Fraley:
The email address used when Danielle/Isabelle communicated with Lynn was
IsabelleGolden@... and the shipping address was in Panorama City, CA.
However, Lynn informed me that she has used other shipping addresses when
"buying" from other artists.
I have no doubt that this woman (and I use that term loosely) is now using
another email or AOL handle. AOL is not known as a haven for scam artists
and trolls for nothing, unfortunately.
Don't become cynical though - there are many, many honest and legit AOL
users! If in doubt, ask for references. Check on CCs. Ask for a money order
if nothing else. Raise your awareness but don't go paranoid. That's my best
advice.
Wishing you all the best and safe hobby deals,

"If Life hands you lemons today, smile and give thanks. Then when Life
isn't looking, give him a quick knee to the groin. That'll teach him."
I recently received this from my friend Kathy McKenzie... who in her turn
received it from one of those that were ripped off.
*Please* - take care! :0 And do FW this info to other hobbyists!
/Mariah

This is indeed A "ROA" warning, of the kind not generally
allowed on lists. HOWEVER....the most infamous ROA ever to have graced the
hobby is back on the loose, and we must get the word out, or she will target
our people and they will be taken for thousands unless we get the word out
NOW!!!! I'm not talking about someone who hasn't sent payment/horses/done
generic bad deals here, folks. We're talking an incredibly prolific con
artist.
And yes, I do have a personal agenda with this one.....I was one of the
MANY who were ripped off by her around 5 years ago. And I don't want to see
her at it again. She singlehandedly changed business dealings in the hobby
(for the worse). :-(
Unfortunately, "Isabelle Golden" is yet another incarnation of our
"dear" friend from around 5 years ago, Danielle Reed/Reid/Peranteaux. She's
running her operations just like she did in the past when she ripped many
well known & experienced hobbyists off for THOUSANDS of dollars. She is
VERY good at what she does, folks. She's almost impossible to prosecute
(believe me, many of us tried very hard). Though I did hear a rumor that
she ended up in jail for something at some point.
>>Mariah's comment - I did hear of this too from reliable sources quite some
time ago
PLEASE get on to spreading the word that she's out there again. Use
extreme caution in entering into deals with any unknown people. She usually
goes for higher-end H-R's and especially resins. She uses many fake names,
and writes checks on closed accounts, uses stolen credit cards, the list
goes on & on. Also famous for "chargebacks" on credit cards, so merchants,
don't feel safe because a charge originally took. She seems very perky &
nice on the phone, but then turns into a total psycho. After she's pestered
you endlessly for the merchandise (this was in the days before holding
checks was standard operating procedure), you would get the returned check,
chargeback, or whatever, and be unable to trace her due to the fact that her
info was all phoney!

Absolutely! We need to *stop* this woman before she hurts anyone else! Lynn
Fraley lost $650 I believe - I sure hope that she can retrieve it somehow!
Just one thing... if you hear of more aliases, shipping addresses etc
(preferably from someone who has been ripped off or that can provide an
email to someone that has been), please let me know. I will post it here as
well as FW the info to other hobbyists I know.
Please let me assure everyone that I do not normally forward warnings about
people - anyone can have a bad deal once or hold a grudge for some reason.
However, this woman has ripped off *several* very reliable friends of mine,
usually by using someone else's credit card or a bad check.
I would very much like to know about email addies she's using etc. In my 16
years in the hobby, I've been ripped off *once*. I do *not* want a second
experience... nor do I want anyone else to have to go through something like
it if I can help it.
:)

Mariah, may we cross post this? I'd like to post this on a list I

Subject: [kalaastudios] Heads up! ROA at it again!
Hi all -
This is so important that it needs to be brought to everyone's attention.
Infamous rip-off artist Danielle Reed-Peranteux (I'm *sure* I spelled that
wrong) has been at it again. This time she used someone else's credit card
and a semi-new alias (Isabelle Golden) to buy an expensive item from Lynn
Fraley.
Danielle has ripped off a number of our well-known hobby artists and
businesses, so *please* stay alert! I managed to delete the email with more
details <duh>, but she apparently resides in CA. As per the information I
have her eBay ID is 'icarus1114' . Anyone who has further information on
aliases etc, please feel free to post it to my list, or if you get this
email privately, send me the info and I will pass it on!
If you accept credit cards in any way, please call the CC company if you
feel unsure about something. A very good friend a fellow artist was
contacted by "Isabelle" earlier this year about doing rush orders on a
number of resins. She had a gut feeling something was fishy, and thankfully
didn't end up being a victim. We should all be so lucky!
If you use PayPal, you may want to have as a policy to ship to the verified
billing address only. I myself can't verify my address due to not being in
the US (I sure hope PayPal will change that soon) but I recommend everyone
to go through the verification process if you regularly use your CC to
purchase off eBay. It takes a big load off seller's minds, I can tell you
:)!
So please stay alert - if this woman can fool professional businesses, then
she can fool you too. I'd hate to see it happen.
Take care,
Mariah Hjerppe/Kalaa Studios

Hello!
I'm very happy to announce that since my Parrs Dream Doll has sold on eBay,
I will indeed be going to the Alchemy opening/HA liveshow in October - I'm
very much looking forward to it! Even better is that my very good friend
Tifainé Highly (hi Tif!) is coming over from the US and will be visiting me
in Sweden as well after these events! I couldn't be more thrilled!
The Gallery is being updated as well - my first submission batch is up.
There's nothing on there that can't be seen on my website, but if you have a
CM by me please cruise on by and have a look to check on details
(http://gallery.modelhorseweb.com ) . I just hate to have incorrect details
and/or "name/owner unknown" in there... :( My wonderful customers sure
deserve the credit!
I've sent in more submissions and will continue to do so over the next few
weeks - Gail is doing a terrific job in getting everything sorted out... but
boy is she busy! I will keep you updated continually on when more photos
have been added.
On the downside... I've been diagnosed with a stomach ulcer. Most likely
I've had it for at least a year - it just took a lot of kicks in the behind
from friends and family for me to actually go see a doctor.
Besides having been deprived of all the good things in life (soft drinks,
tea, the occasional beer...) I also have to try and monitor my stress
levels. This means that I will have to take it slow in finishing my
remaining custom orders :(. Now, *not* working on orders will raise my
stress levels to insane heights... but devoting every spare minute towards
it as I have done recently is just as detrimental. The medication is taking
its toll as well - the side effects are actually worse than the ulcer itself
:P.
I'm truly sorry about this - I hope that those of you who have orders in
progress will bear with me while I fight this out. If all goes well I should
be fine and ulcer-free within a month.
While I have your attention (I hope): I'm trying to compile a list of
private references in case anyone should ask for it. Not that it's happened
yet, but who knows <g>! In case you've had a successful deal with me and
wouldn't hesitate to provide a positive reference, please send me a private
email. I'd very much appreciate it! Also, if I may use any of your comments
on my website, PLMK.
Until next time, stay healthy <g>!

Hello!
After a lot of headscratching (and a fair amount of moping) I've come to the
conclusion that the only way I can afford my planned trip to the UK and the
Alchemy opening is to sell my much-loved Parrs Dream Doll.
This lady is a red dun tobiano Paint - base color done in oils with white
acrylic markings. I just finished her a short while ago but she's already a
live show champion. IMHO she's one of my best works to date.
I'll stop here and let you check her out for yourself. She can be seen at
http://www.kalaastudios.com/available/available.html
I've priced her at $430 including insured airmail postage, but am willing to
part trade for another unpainted PDD.
Better send this off before I change my mind!

Hello!
The two Hadrian's are now sold, and an AA Welsh C I finished a few days ago
found a new owner at the liveshow I attended this weekend.
My CMs did wonderfully well, bringing home a plethora of class wins,
Championships as well as Overall Grand & Reserve. Needless to say I had a
good time and loved meeting a bunch of people I've only 'spoken' to via
email previously.
At the moment I have two more CMs in the making that will be up for sale
later on; a Dozen Roses and an AA SS mini Hackney. Once they're done n' gone
it will be quite a while until I have something new available. I'll be
finishing the last of the custom orders to start with... and then just
generally having a blast doing fun stuff!
I will submit a whole bunch of photos to the Gallery this week - once it's
all up I'll let you know as I'd truly appreciate if you could go on over and
have a look to see if the info is correct.
Well, I'm off to work on some web layout & design proposals... Thanks for
reading!

Hi all!
The red dun Hadrian is currently on hold so I removed him from the website.
The grulla tobiano is still available, however I removed those awful photos
and placed him on the scanner instead. Still debating if it was actually an
improvement ;O!

Hi again!
As promised, I've added sales info and pics of the two Hadrian's I currently
have for sale. Unfortunately the photos did *not* turn out well at all, so
I'm going to take new pics shortly.
You can find them at http://www.kalaastudios.com/available/available.html
Please hit reload if you don't see anything as you might have a previously
cached copy stored in your browser :).
For those interested I added two new pics (*more* Hadrian's LOL) to this
gallery: http://www.kalaastudios.com/oc/oc2.html
They were done for Horsing Around to sell at BF.
Just in case anyone is interested, I took a couple of quick photos of CMs
that are in progress at the moment - they are for my own showstring and will
not be for sale, so please don't ask :).
http://www.kalaastudios.com/oc/inprog.jpg
That's all for now... I have a couple of more sales models in progress but I
have no idea when they'll be done. I'm swamped at work with a major website
project and feel sort of braindead when I am home!

Hello!
I hope all of you who attended Breyerfest had a fab time! I may not have
been there, but I'll be attending a liveshow in less than two weeks so at
least I'll be getting my "plastic pony fix" soon <g>.
I'm very pleased to announce that two of my CMs won Top Ten's at NAN this
year; Swept Away (AA Large Hackney done in oils) in AR Hackney, and Cut Me
Loose (ISH done in airbrush) in CM Paint Stallions.
Both are owned by Sara Butler - congratulations!!!
I've update the website a wee bit, especially the "Latest News" page. If you
have missed the news due to being no mail, my website is now finally up at
http://www.kalaastudios.com
I will be adding two sales models to the website tomorrow (better late than
never), complete with photos. I'll be sending out an email when I've
uploaded it all, so stay tuned :).

"The mob has many heads, but no brains."
Hi there!
Thanks to my totally terrific domain host who have gone out of their way to
help me transfer my domain name, http://www.kalaastudios.com is now working
:)!
Another tidbit which I'm *very* excited about is that I will be doing a
collaboration with one of my best friends, Kathy McKenzie, who is one hot
and super-talented artist!
Kathy's work is simply stunning and sells like hot potatoes... she's also an
Arab person just like me. Yup, think you might've guessed it - I will be
resculpting a model (we have the PS Arab in mind) and she'll be painting it.
This collab will be sold on eBay.
At this point I have no intention to sell any Arab CMs pre the sale of this
one. As many of you know I haven't done any CM Arabs for quite some time
(=years), and you can bet I feel inspired! I just can't wait to get to work
as well as see what type of magic Kathy will work on this piece!
If you're unfamiliar with Kathy's work, please visit her website at
http://dragonflightstudio.com
Just cover your keyboard first so it doesn't get drool damage!
I also have a request:
Since the Model Horse Gallery is now in the hands of Gail Berg, I hope to be
able to update it with a lot of pics and info around August, which is when
Gail has said she will be able to accept new photo submissions. I've sent
her some corrections about what's currently in the Gallery that was to the
best of my ability and recollection... but I bet there are more updates to
be made ;O.
If you know you have a work by me in the Gallery, please stop by and check
if the info is correct. If it isn't just send me an email.
http://gallery.modelhorseweb.com
Just as important is information from those of you that have works currently
*not* in the Gallery! Since I hope to be able to update it soon (it all
depends on Gail) I really do want to hear from those of you that own works
by me.
With my limited production I remember just about all models I've done, so a
mere description as well as the model's name will suffice. If I have
questions I'll ask for more details.
Thanks for reading and wishing you all the best,

Hello there!
Just a quick note here! First of all, I hope that all of those who're going
to BreyerFest will have a superb time! Ness & Mac of Horsing Around has two
Hadrian resins CMed by me available for sale. Unfortunately I haven't been
able to develop pics of these two guys yet but please stop by and have a
look :)... and while you're at it, say hi from me. :)
I've done quite a bit of work on the site since my last announcement -
tweaking graphics, altering basic design, etc. I still have some work to do
but at the moment model horse and 'real' work is taking precedence. At least
the site now loads quickly and is bookmark friendly. Don't ask about the
domain name transfer <sigh>... it *will* happen... I hope :P. The massive
amounts of problems I'm having with this could probably be turned into a
*book*.
As you might've guessed I will not be at Breyerfest <sob sob> but I do have
some sales models very near completion and it's quite likely that I will
have pics and more details up around that time (Breyerfest-deprived need
some goodies too, eh?!). Those that are 'nearly there' are:
AA mini trotting Welsh C in reverse dapple slate grulla (oils)
Hadrian in light peachy red dun (oils)
AA Show Special mini Hackney in bay (oils)
Hadrian in a very dramatic tobiano slate grulla (oils)
I will be offering all of them at private sale for starters - if you feel
that you might be interested in any one of them but will be at BF, please
give me holler privately and I'll put them on the scanner for a preview if I
can (some are still in process as of *now* and can't be scanned due to wet
paint).
Thanks for reading... and remember to have fun!

Hi there!
Well, I've managed to do some improvements to the 'trial' site. It's still
*far* from perfect I'm afraid... but I've decided that it's still a heckuva
lot better than the one at Fortunecity <g>!
I will be making a lot of corrections over the coming days, mainly within
the galleries (layout-wise) so if the site is temporarily unavailable off
and on it's probably because I'm uploading stuff.
Within a day or two I will put up a notice at the "old" site
<http//members.fortunecity.com/kalaastudios> that it has moved to - and
please alter your bookmark to - <http://kalaa.bizland.com>
The move will remain 'semi-official' until the domain name transfer can be
completed (in about 4-5 weeks).
I do wish to note that once my transfer goes through (www.kalaastudios.com)
you won't need to change your bookmarks unless you really feel an obsessive
urge to. BizLand is my domain host and thus the .bizland.com URL is supposed
to continue to work. Naturally I'll let you all know once everything is
completed just in case.
I've put up some new pics in the galleries so it's worth taking a look! I'd
love to hear your comments, especially about loading time (which is supposed
to be much improved).

Hello -
Just a quick note to let you know I will be offline over the weekend (yes -
again!). I'm going down to my old hometown to have a teensy tiny b-day party
as I turned 26 this Wednesday. I'll be back home again on Monday :).
I was alerted that there is a custom by me up on eBay, a CM Big Ben. As
noted in the auction I did the original resculpting and the dapple grey
basecoat, but the seller added the pinto markings later on. I have no idea
about the quality of the added markings though.
It's currently at $31 and I noticed there's no reserve on this guy.

Hi -
I concluded the poll earlier today and am happy to announce that members may
now post messages.
All details are available in the "Posting rules" file at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kalaastudios/files/
- if you plan to post the file is *mandatory* reading.
The on-going tragic tale of "Getting That Domain Name Transferred" has taken
a much unappreciated twist. I'd rather go hide under the bed than go over
the details... just let me repeat that you should never ever register a
domain name with Namezero. Anyway, it seems that it will be another *two
months* until I am allowed to change my registrar >:O.
I'm still doing some revamping of the new design, but once it is done I will
use the site it is up at as my official webpage, working domain name or not.
I'll keep you posted about this.
Otherwise not much is new! Thanks to those who participated in the poll and
feel free to post away!
Have a great day :D -

Hello -
Hopefully you've just received an announcement about the poll I've set up.
*Please* take the time to vote - I very much value your input! I will close
the poll in about a week from now.
For those wondering, I've been incredibly busy as I started a new job last
week as a web designer at the Royal Institute of Technology (one of the
foremost Swedish universities). I enjoy it to boot - great co-workers *and*
boss - but it has left with me little energy to paint. The weather (=bad
light situation) hasn't helped either :P.
I hope to be able to get around to working on a whole conga line of CAMs
sitting in my studio, begging to be cut up ;). Yes, some of them *will* be
for sale, as will a dramatically CMed Huck Bey be once I get around to
finishing him :). I haven't done drastic Arab CMs to sell for several years
due to my order backlog, but since it's nearly done (I can see the light!
<vbg>) I will be indulging in a lot of creative work this summer.
I'm still waiting for my domain name transfer to go through <tapping fingers
impatiently> - at least this unwanted waiting time has given me the
opportunity to do major improvements of the new site which should be quite
apparent once uploaded and announced.
Last but not least - I will be offline Thu-Sun as I'll be going on a small
trip with my family, celebrating my dad's 60th birthday. I'll reply to
private emails sent during that period as quickly as I'm able to once I'm
back.
Thanks for reading & have a *wonderful* day!
Yours,
Mariah Hjerppe/Kalaa Studios

Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the
kalaastudios group:
Would you like to be able to post about
something related to models customized by
Kalaa Studios/Mariah Hjerppe?
This would include sales/wants lists,
show wins, etc... as long as it bears
relation to my work. I am aware that
especially my CM Arabs are in great
demand - when they occasionally come up
for sale, what better place than to
announce them if not here?
I would keep this list moderated so that
no inappropriate posts go through.
Please vote & have a great day :D!
Yours,
Mariah

o Yup - I like this idea!

Hello!
I finally got around to developing some photos of the CM King Cortez! You
can view him at http://members.fortunecity.com/kalaastudios/KC.jpeg
Unfortunately the day was cloudy so the pics are a bit dark - his color and
detail doesn't show up as well as I'd like.
This is the re-release done by Hagen-Renaker this year (this one is #89).
It's a lovely piece with a lot of detail, but I just couldn't resist
painting him up into a dark dapple buckskin overo! This color suits him
extremely well and looks quite the little rascal!
Done in acrylic airbrush with all detail added by hand, including delicate
mapping. Glossed eyes, hooves & nostrils.
I accidentally knocked this guy off his base (no breakage/damage to the legs
though) but since he stands perfectly well on his own I decided to leave it
up to the buyer if they wish to glue him back on or not. I will paint the
base in the buyer's choice of color.
I'm asking $300 which *includes* airmail shipping and insurance (I no longer
ship uninsured). He'll be sent triple boxed.
I accept eChecks/CCs via PayPal *or* International Postal Money Orders.
Sorry, no trades at this time but will consider time payments (50% down and
the remaining 50% within 30 days from first payment).
I have more pics I can scan - send me an email and I'll be happy to send you
a few others!
Thanks for looking & have a great day!

Hi everyone -
First off, thanks for your input on whether to send photos as email
attachments or provide links to a webpage. I've decided on the latter based
on your responses :).
I've thrown up the preliminary version of my new website at
http://kalaa.bizland.com/index/index.html
I wish to warn those with a slow connection - at the moment the site loads
with the speed of a koala on downers (I need to tweak the graphics a bit as
well as correct a few other things ;O). Unless you have the patience of a
saint, don't check it out unless you have at least a 56K modem.
Once the site has been corrected to load more quickly, the pages are
completed and as soon as my domain name transfer goes through, this will be
the new 'look'. The site at http://members.fortunecity.com/kalaastudios is
still the 'official' one... but I thought it would be nice to give you a
'sneak peak' at what is coming ahead.
Feel free to comment (on anything but the loading speed, that is <g>!!!) - I
always appreciate input!
As for now, I'm off for bed. I've spent ten hours straight today finishing
the site and feel braindead.
Take care,
Mariah Hjerppe/Kalaa Studios

Hi everyone!
Welcome to the new and hopefully improved Kalaa Studios mailing list! I
thought I'd send out a test message and thank you for signing up. Just about
everyone on the old list is here and several new folks as well - a special
welcome to them!
I do not have much new to report at the moment, other than that my domain
name transfer (www.kalaastudios.com) is going to take much longer than
expected (6-8 weeks, whee!). Never sign up for a domain name with NameZero,
folks... trust me on that one! The new site iself is just about finished and
I may throw it up on the web soon for a test drive even if it isn't with the
new domain name - I'll keep you posted!
There *are* som sales models coming up soon as well. Most likely they will
not be sold on eBay as I'm currently working on my "New Couch Fund". Thanks
to the Terminator Dog, the one I have now is deteriorating rapidly and needs
to be replaced ASAP.
I'll finish off by asking you a question: At the times I have models for
sale, would you prefer a link to a webpage with the photo, or would you like
me to send a photo as an email attachment when I announce the details on
this list? If you'd like to send your 2 cents worth (very much appreciated)
just send me a private email at kalaa@...
Thanks for reading & have a great day :D!
