me on MH$P at the moment. I'm personally not selling (or working on)
anything at this time as I'm studying towards the French Proficiency
Exam From Hell... after that I'm going to spend some serious time
working on everything from the orders from yore to new sales stuff. I

I'm going to be out of town until Sunday, so I'll have to provide you

now I'm too stressed. What I *can* say right off the bat is that the
models I'll be selling from now on and up until late September will be
the *only* ones available until sometime around late summer 2008. My
studies are keeping me more than occupied, and as I've said before
it's fairly pointless for me to try and paint during the winter months
anyway.

I'll update my website next week (and yes, the kalaastudios.com URL is
functional again) and actually try to provide you with approximate
selling dates. A lot of people have expressed interest in the silver
dapple War Chant - he will not be available until September. As for
the rest of 'em... stay tuned. :)

Hi all,

Spring is here, and I'm feeling much, much happier than I did a few months
ago! :D Infinite thanks to all of you who wrote me with kind words of
support; due to all of my computer troubles and an insane workload at school
I haven't get back to you... yet. Story of my life! ;P

Anyhoo, I *finally* have a new CM for sale! Wonders never cease, right? It
took me quite awhile to get back to painting (my life was pretty chaotic
during February and March), but now I'm finally spending some quality time
at my little studio table again.

So what about the darned model? It's Sarah Rose's Oberon resin in airbrushed
red bay. I just finished him today and wanted to grab a snapshot before I
lost whatever light was available. Unless he sells right away I will get
more *and* better pics of him this weekend. You can see him here:

I have also come to a decision to part with a work in progress. I'm not
especially fond of doing plastic CMs, and apart from about three I'm getting
rid of what I have lying around.

I'm offering a Breyer NSH that has a resculpted head/neck and mane/tail. A
lot of the work has been done, but he still needs sculptural work on his
head and a few other places... Plus plenty of sanding of course. <g>.

Asking price is $120 + postage, and I will *only* sell it to someone who
agrees *NOT* to connect my name with it in any way from there on. In other
words, you may *NOT* resell it as is now naming me as the customizer, or
have it finished and then call it a collaborative work between me and Artist
X. I only do collaborative work when I'm able to have full control over "my"
part of the work... Ie I'd never send off something to be painted unless it
was fully completed and prepped.

Naturally the bright side is that if you are a customizer, you can do the
minor sculptural work that's left, prep, paint and then take full and
complete credit for the finished work... with my blessings. ;D Quite an
opportunity here for someone who's prepared to do a little work.

Hi all,

Very long time, no see. I hope 2006 has treated you well so far! I can
imagine that several of you have been wondering just where the heck I've
been. I have no wish to turn this into some sort of sob story, just want to
be open with the facts.

To make a long story short I've spent the past 1 1/2 years living with an
alcoholic. I finally kicked him out on Jan 11th and have been and still am
in the midst of trying to work out practical (not to mention emotional)
aspects. Since we'd been talking about getting married it's been a huge
emotional blow in many, many ways.

My ex's drinking was manageable up until early fall last year when it really
started spiraling out of control, so I've spent the past six months or so
trying to adjust to full-time university studies, taking care of the
household, the dogs and him, as well as to keep up some sort of appearances.
If any of you have experience knowing or living with an addict, you probably
know of that destructive dance called "Co-dependency".

It's quite scary how you can go from being an independent, happy person with
an active social life to a anxiety-ridden, worn-out recluse without any
sense of self, just by being in a relationship with a substance abuser.
That's exactly what happened to me, but I was so caught up in the dark dance
that I didn't even see it for what it was until perhaps a  1 1/2 months ago.

Soooo... Hopefully that explains my absence, why emails have gone unanswered
and why my website hasn't been updated since Jesus was a child. I'm going to
do my best to get back on track ASAP, but at the moment I'm still
emotionally and physically drained and am pretty much living from one hour
to the next. But it's getting better! I have a wonderful support system and
many shoulders to cry on. Everyone should be so lucky.

I have a bunch of "almost-finished" CMs here... They've been that way since
this past summer :P. Painting has always been great therapy for me, so I
hope to pick up my airbrush for the first time in some six months a bit
later this week. I have a red bay hairy Oberon that just needs a tiny bit of
airbrush work, Krylon and gloss (all the detail work has already been done),
after that I'll put him up for sale. Yay!!! :D

I'm also going to try and get back to working on the Saluki sculpture as
well as update the website fairly soon. I'm really looking forward to all of
this - I'm FINALLY going to have the time and energy to do all of the things
I enjoy again! :D :D I'm not going to rush myself though - there are so many
aspects of my life that I need to get reacquainted with... My own self first
and foremost.

I have a bunch of emails I need to reply to - unfortunately most of them are
on my stationary computer which decided to have a nervous breakdown about
the same time I did, so it's away getting serviced. If you're waiting to
hear from me, hang in there. Also, with so many things going on right now
I'm bound to be somewhat slow with email no matter what.

Thanks Kris :D! I was somewhat hesitant as whether I should upload the pic
or not (come on, at this stage that image could scar small children for
life!), so it's nice to hear a positive comment <g>.

Thought I'd grab the opportunity and answer some q's sent to me privately:

1) I really have no idea when he'll be finished and what he'll be priced at.
Once he's done I'm going to ship him off to MVS. Once I get a quote from
them, I'll have to sit down and calculate the selling price. It very much
depends on the mold-making cost and the cost per casting (heck, I don't
know.. He may end up being difficult - or easy - to cast!). As I also wish
to use the MVS shipping service, I need to know just how much that's going
to cost/resin. That's just for starters.

2) Edition #: Haven't quite decided yet - I'll probably offer a one-mold run
(50-60) to start with. Out of that run, some will be offered at a
pre-casting price to finance the whole shebang. I also plan on keeping
around 4-5 for myself. If he ends up being very popular I'll do a
second-mold run. But who knows... I may opt for a two-mold run from the
get-go... We'll see LOL.

I know that there are some folks out there who're very curious about the
Trad Saluki sculpture I have in progress... So anyway, I took a pic, did
some PhotoShop work on it and uploaded it here

He's a loong way from being done (as you can tell!!) and I know the head is
fugly LOL! Alien meets a bad nose-job, or something. I've hardly done any
work on the head at all (no lower jaw etc) and it's going to look quite
different when he's done. I've pretty much just blocked in the apprx length
for overall reference.

BTW, he's 10 cm high (slightly less than 4"), measured at the withers.

Thanks Kellye :D! I'm surfing around, checking for errors.. Have found a few
and they've been corrected.

FYI, the Galleries are all working perfectly now (at least according to my
browsers). If you're seeing those darned x's or ?'s, hit your reload button
one or two times. My default browser is Safari (Mac OSX) and it requires
that I reload twice after I've updated for some strange reason.

Anyway, if a link isn't working for you... PLEASE let me know! The file
structure is somewhat complicated which can cause errors.

than planned - my FTP program was in an un-cooperative mood so I had to sit
down and tinker with my general settings a bit... Didn't get it fixed until
today.

navigation - the idea yes, but not how the navigation bar "looks". I'll work
on that later on, I'm just happy I'm finally done with this! YAY!

Hi all!

Just a quick note to let you know that the website will be down tomorrow -
I've decided to go ahead and launch the new version. It's about time
something happened LOL! No, I won't have anything available for sale
although that was the original plan... I just wanna get this baby up and
going!

I can tell you right away that it's not "ideal" - there are quite a few
features I'd still like to incorporate (but it will take TIME and I just
don't have much of that), and the new Gallery navigation will most
definitely be improved upon.

Oh well, more thoughts when it's actually up and running! I'll be inviting
your thoughts and opinions since the website is for *you* first and
foremost.

Hi there,

Yes, it's true!!! I'm just about done with the new website version :D!!!
I've got a few minor things left, which is creating the last few pages that
contain photos from a number of model horse events I've attended over the
years. Once that's done the new site is ready to rock n'roll :D!

It's not exactly as I want it and I'll probably look into certain navigation
issues during the summer, but for the most part it's much improved and -
very importantly - much easier for me to maintain and update.

I'm not 100% sure when I'll upload the new version - partly it depends on
how quickly I can finish the last pages. I'd also like to have a couple of
sales models done to really kick the whole thing off as nicely as possible.

Besides that, nothing new. Still working on my backlog when I'm able to - am
taking what's ordinarily three years worth of French in 3 1/2 months so most
of the time I'm cramming nouns and tenses. It's not as bad as it sounds as I
did study French years ago (back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, it
feels), but it's still  pretty intense.

Oh well, back to website maintenance and a wee bit more French before I turn
in for the night.

Second of all - although I'm still not done with the new website (what else
is new...?), I did manage to put up some in progress pics on the current
one. Nothing much (I have plenty more stuff in progress) and the pics are
quite horrid as they were taken indoors, with a flash and at night. Aouch!
All are slated for eBay once done, BTW. I DO have more models in the making
(basically all minis) that will be offered through this list, so if you
don't like auctions there will be something coming up for you as well :).

Last... Like chinas? I have two, done by Alchemy and sold through Horsing
Around (they are no longer available thru HA). As I desperately need the
money I'm prepared to let the below guys go for much less than what I paid.
Email me if interested :). Short-term time payments will be considered, but
I would prefer if payment is made in full straight away.

My domain name is "under attack" - someone is using kalaastudios.com to send
to send unsolicited e-mails to hundreds if not thousands of e-mail
addresses.  I know this because I'm getting the bounce-back messages from
those mail servers where messages can not be delivered.

I'm trying to get to the bottom of this and have so far informed my domain
host. I will also be in touch with my domain name registrar and ISP.  From
what I've been able to find out there is no way at this time to prevent
someone from using a stolen domain name as a return address in an e-mail
message.

Please know that I HATE spam and that I am NOT responsible for the emails
that claim to come from kalaastudios.com. Anything and everything that comes
from me personally will always be from kalaa@...

Hi there,

Time really does fly! Nope, once again I haven't fallen off the face of the
earth - I'm just super-stressed and have been for quite a while. Too many
obligations and not anywhere near enough time :(. The past six months or so
haven't exactly been the best ones of my life - it seems like every aspect
of my life is back-logged, and no matter how much I try to get thru it all
it just keeps getting worse :/. By now I'm having severe anxiety attacks
about 2-3 times/day combined with a constant headache... Ugh.

I've tried to make sure that I prioritize my education, and my grades have
been excellent overall (at least that's a relief). I've got a couple of
major exams left and then I'm finally "off the hook" for a few weeks. It's
kind of saddening that my reason for looking forward to the holidays is that
I can play catch-up on all the aspects of my life that have suffered during
the fall... No R&R for me this Christmas! ;OP

Enough of the self-pity already! As I think you've already guessed
everything model horse-related has been on the back burner for quite a
while. It bugs the heck out of me as I have so many models that are very
near completion, but I just haven't been able to find the time to finish
them.

Once I'm done with my order backlog as well as the sales stuff, sculptures
etc I have in progress I'm going to take a break from customizing for a
while. I have, as you may have guessed <g>, WAAAAY too many things going on
in my life to be able to handle them all. 2005 will be my 20th consecutive
year in the hobby, and I think I'll celebrate it by only working with model
horses if I truly feel like it (and when I am able to do so without feeling
stressed out due to neglecting other aspects of my life).

From the look of it now, next year may well be the one of Many Changes. My
boyfriend and I plan on buying (or at least start looking for) a house - we
both wish to live out in the middle of nowhere LOL. Naturally I'll have to
get my driver's license first in order to make that a possibility - once
that's done I'll be buying myself a huge bottle of bubbly ;)! Considering
I'm 29 yo it's about time I get down to that particular task...

For those of you that have wondered: I did have a spectacularly wonderful
time in England at the HA show. I took plenty of pics, but needless to say I
haven't been able to do much with them. Some people photos can be seen here

That's it for now :). In a few weeks from now I'll start going thru that
huge email backlog of mine (among other things), but right now I have to get

Lucky you - getting to attend the HA show in a CASTLE! We Texans don't
see too many castles (well maybe an occasional sand castle for those
that live on the coast), much less have a show in one! Have a wonderful
time and take lots of pictures with that new digital camera of yours!

Hi all,

Long time, no speak... Nope, I haven't disappeared, I've just been even more
busy than usual. School has taken up a great deal of my time as well as
various other projects.

First of all: I'm off to England on Wednesday and will be back Nov 1st. I'll
be attending the Horsing Around anniversary show which will be loads of fun
:D! It will hopefully provide me with some much-needed inspiration on the
model horse front as well, I pretty much hit the wall at the end of this
summer. I guess almost 20 yrs of customizing finally caught up with me... I
have been feeling quite sick of model horses the past few months - it's much
better now and I'm back to painting again, and as mentioned I'm sure this
trip will be very beneficial to me.

The website has been at a standstill as well - since not much has happened
in the studio I haven't felt all that pressed to finish up the last "stuff"
that I need to do before I upload the new version.

I'm still also WAY behind on email, thanks for being patient everyone. I'm
doing my best, but there just aren't enough hours a day to go around...

I've saved the best news for last ;)... I'm now finally the proud owner of a
digital camera (at last, at last!!!). I just got it a few days ago and
haven't much time to play with it, but once I'm back I'll take pics of most
the stuff in progress and upload it on my website :D. Being able to upload
pics on the web right away will certainly make my life much easier.

More news next week - I'll take plenty of pics when I'm in England! Can't
wait to stay two nights at a castle - a dream come true LOL!

Another NAN win has dropped in as well - Deb Snow showed her "Kitaro" to a
NAN Top Ten - congrats Deb :D!

The website revamping continueth and I'm very pleased with how it's coming
along. I will not be adding anything new to the current one due to a number
of reasons, so all news will be announced here only until the new site is up
and running. I will also use Yahoo to post pics of sales models etc.

I borrowed a digital camera the other day and took a couple of pics -
unfortunately the camera didn't handle close-ups very well <ehrmm>. I do
have two lousy "in progress" pics up on Yahoo tho:

The Beswick is just about done and I plan to auction him off on eBay unless
someone is interested right away. The Mustang needs quite a bit more work,
