Description
If you hate the system, and hate cops who think they're above the law, then this is the group for you!
You might be thinking to yourself, “Why should I care about all this? It won’t ever happen to me or anyone I know.” But the truth is, for most of us, that ignorance is bliss; we read about police brutality in the paper and hear it on the news, and feel sad for that family. When it happens to you or someone you know, that’s when it really hits you. It’s happened to some of my family and friends, and it took the life of my beloved cousin, Eric Kleemeyer.
Basic facts about police brutality:
1. Police brutality is a form of police corruption.
2. Police corruption is not a new thing and dates back to the establishment of the first organized local police forces.
3. The number of police brutality complaints has gone up since the Rodney King case was first publicized.
4. The problem of police brutality is difficult to gauge, because no comprehensive statistics exist.
5. The standard five levels of force when an officer is handling a suspect are: (1) police presence (2) verbal commands (3) tools on belt (4) physically fighting (5) deadly force. (however, some cops do not abide by these standards, which may result in death).
6. Officers usually stick to the “code of silence” that bonds all officers (an officer doesn’t rat their partner out). As a result, there is widespread public suspicion that brutality or other misdeeds are covered up.
7. Standard procedure for officer-involved shootings requires that those officers take mandatory administrative leave.
8. After administrative leave is over, officers may get back on duty if they merely pass a psychological exam.
9. Violent, aggressive behavior, a common side effect of steroids (a.k.a. “roid rage”) can contribute to police brutality—even murder.
10. The best way to combat police brutality is to make the public more aware of it.
