Hello All, Apologies-- I do not generally post SPAM, but I feel that this is
important. While not members of our group, it is the Principal of the thing--if
it can happen to one group, it can happen to any of us in the Living

Please be on the look out for this-- no one likes a thief!

Good Friends,
I regret to inform you that last night my personal trailer was stolen
from my driveway with a number of Kingdom, Baronial and personal items
inside. I have already filed a police report with the Oklahoma City
Police. Last night I removed His Majesties' throne, the banner box,
feast gear box, and one of the kneeling pillows to pass on for the
trip down to Stargate, so those items are safe. I went out this
morning to retrieve something from the trailer and it was gone. I
have called anyone I could think of who might have picked up the
trailer for this weekend's event, but no one has it. I then called
the police to report the crime and drove around my neighborhood
looking for the trailer. The trailer is a white 5x8 box trailer with
a red SCA sticker on the upper left corner of the door. I have
attached a list of what I remember being in the trailer. If anyone
sees the trailer or any of these items for sale online or in a pawn
shop, please contact me immediately. With luck, we may be able to
recover at least some of the items.

Sorry about the SPAM-- this is a cross-post. While this stuff belongs to folk
that aren't a part of our group, it is the principal of the thing-- if some
blackguard bastard will steal a trailer out of a drive, it could happen to any
of us. And while this stuff is distinctive and would be difficult to unload,
it's not impossible. Please keep an eye out and lend a brotherly hand in this.

Greetings All,
I am very pleased to announce the publication of the third book in the die
Schlachtschule armored combat series entitled "The Play of the Axe: Medieval
Pollaxe Combat" by Hugh T. Knight, Jr.
This book is intended to introduce the reader to authentic medieval pollaxe
techniques as taught by medieval fighting masters. Consisting of more than 200
pages with more than 380 photographs, the book begins with a general
introduction about medieval fight books and the nature of armored pollaxe
combat, and follows with a chapter dedicated to the strategic principles of
medieval combat as they apply to the pollaxe. The author then gives a detailed
chapter on how to train, including information about finding a teacher, training
without one, and the equipment necessary for training. Next, the book goes on to
explore detailed pollaxe techniques, starting with fundamentals such as stance,
footwork and guards, and moving logically through techniques to be used in a
wide variety of situations in pollaxe combat. Finally, it ends with an appendix
containing instructions for creating drills to use with any of the techniques in
the book, rules for free play in armor designed to recreate real combat, and a
detailed glossary. It is available in both a perfect-bound edition and a
spiral-bound edition designed to lay flat and open for use at practices.
This book will be of interest to anyone with an interest in knighthood, medieval
combat, history or martial arts in general.
"The Play of the Axe: Medieval Pollaxe Combat" has been published through
Lulu.com and is only available for internet purchase at this time:

Thrilling Action, Great Interactive Fun!!!
Greetings all,
Sharing Suligowski's Regiment at Renaissance Pleasure Faire South 2009 in 'A
Winged Hussars Experience'-photo album...1st photo after the Banner (top
line)taken at the 2009 RPFS.
And review:
Just wanted to share a personal commentary review on our
"Suligowski's Regiment Group-Play-Day", at Renaissance Pleasure Faire South in
Irwindale, Ca, this past Saturday, May 16.
Our members were 'honored guests' and provided with our very own table spread
overlooking the Queens' Garden in the 'Friends-of-Faire Garden. We extend the
greatest appreciation and Grammercy to Lady Sutherland and her staff for being
our gracious hosts and honoring our group's visit.
It was one of the hottest days yet, here in SoCal, in the 90's.
And the sweat poured, and poured, and poured...
As usual, when we took our walk thru the faire, we were stopped literally 'every
5 feet' for the faire patrons and visitors asking and demanding "could you
please let us take your pictures?". It would take us about an hour just to walk
from the FOF Garden to the front gate!!!
Unfortunately, we couldn't bring in our horses as there's no room to manouever
them in the crowds and would be too dangerous, and it would have been
exceedingly hot for them if we did.
It was hot as the blazes, as I said, and it takes a serious toll on those of us
in armor and zupons as we cooked...fortunately, because we were provided with
our own table with plenty of shade, at which to sit, close to where the
passersby could see us at the front railing, we stopped more traffic, and
onlookers who stopped to ask who we were, and about our winged armor. I opened
up our 'extended lunch' and set out Hawaiian sweet rolls, lots of ice-filled
goblets, (masqueraded) sports drinks, electrolyte-laden goodies like dill
pickles and spanish olives, Pears, keilbasa, honey mustard, oranages, cherries,
cheeses, and such like that. A repast fit for the visiting Polish ambassadors...
With lunch finished and everyone recharged, we again, donned our winged armor
and Tarrah in her pancerni chainmail kit (this time, minus the gorget and
pauldrons), and took on the crowds as we waded thru the dusty paths, with all
the verve and intensity of a very intimidating 'gang', if you will, with
everyone parting to move to the sides for the impression we made as many took to
the sides of the 'streets' and made room for us to walk thru. All kidding aside,
the general atmosphere was very much akin as a comparison as if the rock band
KISS was there walking thru the crowd, and as was the real, historical Polish
winged hussars, we were 'the rock stars' of the moment in the most spectacular
gear they have ever seen...Compliments abounded...except for the newest comments
we heard...
Oh, you guys are from 'Flash Gordon!'...(ignorantly referring to King Voltan's
'Hawkmen' from the Flash Gordon story)...Well, we said, that's a new one...Last
year, someone made a Thor comment because of my yellow leather boots, which, in
Marvel Comics, Thor also sported.
Their resident Queen Elizabeth I, acknowledged us as her entourage train passed
by and we returned the acknowledgement in kind, semi-half-bowing, szyszak's
removed.
As can be seen from our newest home page photo, and the album mentioned above,
is a brief glimpse of us captured in a moment in time. And a few more pics will
wind up in the photo album mentioned above...
The only sad part was that Tarrah couldn't wear her new yellow hussar boots from
Polish Hussar Supply, because they were too big and didn't fit properly...
All in all, we had a very good time overall, and look fwd to our return there
again.
With the arrival of Sunday, the wearing of the winged armor for all those hours
and especially walking in the high-heeled hussar cavalry boots took its tool on
the body, and I was virtually 'fried' as almost every muscle ached. But it was a
good-kind of ache, because we accomplished yet another great victory in sharing
our part of Polish history with all others at the Renaissance Pleasure Faire
South.
Please show your Solidarnosc' and support for our Polonia History, and look for
us at the 'Old Fort MacArthur Days' Los Angeles Military Show in San Pedro, July
11-12, 2009, representing Sobieski at Vienna!!!!
Vivat!
Cheers,
Rik Sulima-Suligowski Fox

'A Polish Winged Hussar experience'
'Highlights from Suligowski's Regiment,
America's 1st portrayal of the Winged Hussars.'
Just to add faces to the names, here's a 'few' of our members some armored and
mounted, and some not, at various events.
Enjoy.
Rik
Greetings knights, et al,
Sorry to start off with that sad posting of a fellow knight passing away, but I
meant to get back in here and introduce myself...
some of you may have heard the name, Rik (Sulima-Suligowski)Fox. Some may go
"Oh Yeah, I know him" and some may go "oh no", lol.
It's all subjective, depending on whom you talk to, and more importantly, who's
actually telling the truth...lol...
Actually, there's a LOT more good than not good, thankfully...
I'm the founder of SULIGOWSKI'S REGIMENT",(Sobieski's Command), America's 1st
U.S.Polish Winged Hussar Living History Group.
That is, America's first 17th Century Polish-Lithuanian Living History Group to
portray the winged hussar cavalry forces of the Polish Commonwealth. Dziên Dobry
Pañstwo! (Polish greeting).
We were born in early 1998, and finding no 17th century Polish period
representation anywhere in the U.S. at that time, we quickly established
ourselves by mid-2000, at Renaissance festivals and military timelines as The
Polish Nobility Commonwealth Guild, and changed the name shortly thereafter.
Originally, we attempted to utilize the high-visibility of Renaissance faires to
assist in getting the message out about our portrayals. Although we tried to
carry a pre-Sobieski-16th century-era portrayal, we still ran into a few
'snags', in 'fitting-in', mostly due to the inability of many other groups'
being totally unfamiliar with our era and the inability to 'want' to know, or
how to 'play' with us. That's the basis of it, although some may have personal
opinions otherwise. But, that's all they are...personal opinions, and that
doesn't count.
Despite the adversity, we endeavored to carry on, and actually made some decent
headway in spite of the odds. (We were being told to forget about portraying
winged hussars, or, for that matter, *anything* Polish, because no one would
really be interested, and that it would fail). It's a good thing all those
obstacles were put into our path..."That which does not kill us, makes us
stronger"...I'll say, and strengthen our resolve it did, ten-fold.
The more adversity thrown that was our way, the stronger it made us.
Our concept was SO new. it wasn't yet 'on the radar' of comprehension to most
others, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but educating others is one of our
strongest points, so we were in our element there.
(Now we see that there is a proliferation of other Polish re-enactment and
living history groups out there, who've followed along some years after our
formation, and that ain't a bad thing).
In addition, we've quickly been added to Polish cultural events, lectures,
parades and other public cultural events from coast-to-coast. We have been
recognized as the pioneers in this field, acknowledged and awarded by dozens of
American Polonia & Polish-American Organizations and syndicated newspapers, and
known internationally and in the very heart of Poland itself.
Raising Polish Historical Awareness & Culture has been our Prime Directive from
day one. Additionally, we made U.S. History in the 2002 NYC Pulaski Parade with
the 1st Winged Hussar portrayal in any parade in U.S. History.
As the premier representation of the famed Polish winged knights, we also
represent the very last armored knights of Europe to use the lance in battle.
Since I uploaded virtually the first widely available information on the
internet back in 2000-2001, the momentum was swept up by hundreds of others who
shared some interest in this particular field of knighthood, mostly, at first,
copying images from my website and using them on their own websites. When I
began this we researched the internet and found virtually nothing available or
tangible out there on the winged horsemen, but since I 'planted' some of the
best 'roots' out there, it proliferated like wildfire, and winged hussar
websites began multiplying by the hundreds soon after.
We found *one* other guy who actually had the first website up on this topic,
and became friends, but he lost his site soon after, leaving me the only one out
there -actively promoting- this fascinating and awesome character of Polish
knighthood and legend.
Thanks for allowing me in and sharing some of our back-story.
During some of all this, I had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the
'heroes' noted on this yahoo group, such as Steve Weems and Patric Lampke, who
gave me my first, original preliminary jousting lessons.
As well I was a judge and the M.C. for James Zoppe's American Jousting Alliance
shows, in Las Vegas and California, utilizing some of my informal stand-up style
and working the crowd against each other competitively to cheer on the shows.
Eventually, I begans to see other M.C.'s literally copying my 'style' for their
respective jousting shows...similar, but lacking somewhat, in depth, soul, and
substance, because it takes a LOT of guts to get up there in front of hundreds
of spectators, and keep them glued to the action...that's where being
fast-on-your-feet and using some stand-up really solidifies your foundation of
holding the crowds AND being entertaining at the same time.
We've been talking with James and should be working with Master zoppe in an
upcoming show on May 23rd, in Frazier Park at his festival, and may have an
opportunity to introduce some of our Polish knightly portrayals once again, to
one and all.
For anyone curious about our group, here's two of our current websites:
http://www.husaria.ushttp://www.foxywebdesigns.com
Feel free to look thru them and learn a little more about our group and who we
are...I'll be happy to answer any questions, armor, weaponry, history,
etc.,etc...
Thanks again!
Cheers,
-Rik-
All Hail and Greetings...I hate to open my first post here on such a sad note,
but for all chivalrous knights, and those who would consider themselves as
such...Please make exception for this news.
Thank you...
Tribute to a fallen Comrade-in-Arms, equestrian, knight, visionary.
R.I.P. Michael Spurbick Morgan, April 2009
For those who knew him...
Some personal observations, if I may, from a former Comrade-in-Arms...
Much can be said about Michael Spurbick Morgan. Although he wasn't the 'most
loved' man or equestrian in the world, people who are credited as being a 'true
visionary' and considered by others who don't see the massive talent bubbling
under the surface, these folks usually wind up walking thru life with the title
of 'eccentric'.
For those who know about this from the film industry, working with Michael
Morgan was sometimes, something akin to working with James Cameron. Anyone who
is well-versed with Cameron's personality knows of what I speak. That is to say,
they both had a singular idea and vision, as to exactly how they were trying to
attain 'their' goal(s) without care or cost of anything or anyone in their way.
While being amazingly talented, not always the best of being a 'people person'
which sometimes is more valuable than all other considerations. It was the
result(s) that mattered and that is all.
While in the saddle, Michael presented the distinct appearance of the
'undisturbed and very still and deep waters' of a man in thought concerned with
a larger picture of his surroundings usually missed by those around him rushing
to and fro.
An austere image, somewhat akin to, say, a Robert E. Lee, observing enemy
movement positions which is going missed by his subordinates.
Michael was a very gifted individual when around horses and, in the saddle, and
could produce some amazing results.
Possessing a 'take-charge' outlook and attitude on life and in all his
assignments, this sometimes tended to abrasively rub others the wrong way, yet,
Michael was always able to show moments of a softer side, that he was, in fact,
a caring and gentleel man of depth and care.
Michael's difficulty sometimes had him in a way of 'not fitting into place'
especially when expected to work 'together, as an equal' to those around him.
Often feeling that 'Look what I have to work with, *I* can do better than these
others who are 'supposed' to be 'in charge'. This sometimes resulted in a clash
of personalities with those Michale had to associate with. As a visionary, he
considered himself above others, but felt it too time-consuming to have to
explain his every thought into every single detail to others.
But when the results of his vision became apparent, and proven, it was not so
easy then, to call him on his personal technique(s), for he had delivered so
much more beyond the normal expectation.
This was much the same during his phenomenal creative fabrication work in the
film industry. Michael worked on many huge-budget films like Star Trek, and
others in which he delivered amazing hands-on work, which drew others to hire
him, only to sometimes experience a burning-of-bridges afterwards, due to
Michaels demeanor which sometimes alienated others, including potential
production companies who'd heard about his amazing abilities to produce some
amazing bottom-line results but who were not familiar with his temperment and
visionary abilities.
Although his home was fraught with clutter, armor, wall-hanging period weaponry,
books, and dozens of on-going projects-in-progress it ws NOT to be touched or
moved in any way, for Michael had his own, personal system of
'disorganized-organization'. At times, secretive, yet open at other times,
Michael was a 'very' complex person to get inside of and know better. If, on
rare occasion, one were to find a tiny 'chink in his armor of knowledge',
so-to-speak, it was not with open acceptance if he were to be found, in error,
on any account, and he wouldn't take correction or constructive critisizm very
well, from those he considered out of his league or beneath his level of
knowledge.
During his short duration with our living history group Michael portrayed that
of a Croatian mercenary who had been service sometimes to the Venetians while
fighting in Dalmatia. His armor and details were dead-on correct.
Sometimes he worked from the illustrations of Osprey artist and illustrator, the
famed, Velimir Vuksic, whose military artworks lined the walls of Michael's home
workspace. He had moved on after an agreement to go our ways, and he had formed
a 'free company' as was his vision, and which he persued, eventually finding
like-minded individuals who shared his vision.
Expert armorer, swordsman, and Master-at-Arms in many styles of period weaponry
and fighting skills, expert equestrian and jouster,
a research fanatic to produce dead-on, and accurate results of any period in
time. It was very hard to ignore Michael Morgan's endless supply of talent from
which to draw. If he had been a bit more tolerant and patient, with those with
whom he came into proximity, the entire world would be marveling and most eager,
to meet, and know what a wonderful person this man, who had the potential to be
that people person, could be.
Michael passed away this April of 2009, from a fatal accident in the home.
Although not always equally on amiable grounds, it is impossible to ignore the
astounding talents and abilities of Michael Spurbick Morgan... A 'TRUE'
renaissance man...
"As should all fellow knights, in recognition of a fallen warrior, whether liked
and appreciated or not, we don't concern ourselves with such petty and personal
issues here, and take a moment to bow our heads in silence, and in recognition
to your contributions to the world that you have blessed us with, we dip our
lances in memory to you."

The cast and Management of the Acadiana Medieval Faire would like to
wish all of you a happy Holiday Season. The upcoming 2008 season will
bring a few changes to the Acadiana Medieval Faire will make one of
the premiere educational festival in Louisiana.
We would first like to announce that Wade Heaton will be taking over
as president and general manager of the Faire starting this 2008
season. Wade Heaton was born in New Orleans, raised in Baton Rouge,
and is currently residing in Lafayette, LA. His love of medieval and
classical life and literature has taken him many places around the
globe. After graduating in Theatre from Northwestern some years ago,
he worked local television in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. After a
stint with an acting company in Los Angeles, he returned to Louisiana
and began graduate studies as a medievalist at LSU. After a Master's
Degree in English, he was awarded scholarships, including the
prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, and studied in Germany and
Austria. After the fall of the iron curtain, he taught English in the
former Czechoslovakia. Specializing in Medieval and Classical
Literature, he then began teaching English at Southeastern Louisiana
University.
While he specialized in medieval literature, he also developed a love
of the Classics as all the greats of the Middle Ages and Renaissance
looked to the ancient authors for models and inspiration. Teaching
the classics led to developing a series of Togaman performances about
ancient clothing, armor, and weapons which has been touring much of
the country for the past ten years.
"I fell in love with Chaucer in college: the characters, the
language, and especially the world of humanity that comes to life in
the Canterbury Tales. Building up the character of King Edward III,
the monarch of England during Chaucer's early life, is an interesting
challenge and a great deal of fun. Bringing these people to life and
inhabiting them in a realistic way helps modern day Americans of all
ages, educational, and ethnic backgrounds see the connections between
them and us. We may dress differently, eat different foods, and have
more technological conveniences, but the passions, aspirations, and
glimpses into the human comedy really have not changed at all." For
the past season Wade has served as cast director and vice president
of the Acadiana Medieval Faire. Heaton will be taking over from
outgoing president and founder Chad LaComb.
Lacomb started the Acadiana Medieval faire in 2006 after returning to
the Lafayette community after Katrina. From the start, his vision for
the faire was to create the premiere educational event in Louisiana
in the safest environment possible. Under his leadership, the faire
established itself as one of the top five new Renaissance Festivals
in the US, attracted more than 10000 visitors to the event, and built
a solid group of top quality performers and demonstrating craftsmen.
All was accomplished in spite of the nearly constant interference
from another event. Lacomb departs the faire to pursue other
community-service oriented projects. The Acadiana Medieval faire
would like to thank him for his long hours of work, relentless vision
and tremendous courage in the face of adversity. We wish him well on
his future endeavors.
Let me find out and I will get back to you.

Appendix:
Match = consists of 3 passes and possible tie breakers between two
competitors
Round = consists of number matches needed to eliminate the riders
necessary to move up to the next round
Each day competitors will joust in two sets of elimination rounds. A
knight with the most won matches will be the winner of that round and

Competitors will be awarded a point for winning each match. These
points will then determine the over all standing in the competition.
The top two riders will then compete in a final match.
Judging Team
Judging team will consist of 3 judges, and a score keeper under the
direction of a Field Marshal.
The Jousting Match
A jousting match consists of a number of contacting passes.
Each jouster will be given a different color tip to ease the scoring
as well as helping the spectators to see how the match is progressing.
A field marshal will signal to the knights with a white baton that he
is ready to receive the pass. Each rider will then raise lance to the
other rider. Once both riders have indicated that they are ready then
they may charge.
3 contacting passes are run. At the end of the last contacting pass

loss of any points scored during that pass. If the rider re-offends
again during the match then he or she automatically loses that match.
-1 point: for trotting or walking at the point of impact during
a pass.
Any shots below the waste will result in a loss of that match.
A strike that directly hits a horse will usually result in automatic
disqualification from the tournament unless the strike is the result
of a deflection off the target area or as a result of the horse's own
actions, e.g. throwing its head in the air immediately prior to impact.
Any un-chivalrous or dangerous behavior that could adversely affect
the public profile of the tournament can also result in a penalty or
disqualification. This penalty is at the discretion of the Field
