Hi there!
Just wanted to introduce my self as Member #28 of John's "Faithful Fifty"
(or
"Byrne Victims"). I follow his work wherever he goes. That's not to say I
think all of his stuff is great (couldn't get into Wonder Woman, New Gods,
or
Chapter One), but most of it is.
My dream is to someday get John Byrne to contribute a "cliff drawing" to my
collection of cliff sketches by comic artists (which you can all see by
typing in WWW.THECLIFFGUY.COM), but he doesn't do commissions & rarely does
convention sketches. But I can dream, can't I?
Anyway, thanks for starting this list & I look forward to talking with you
all!
~Walt Parrish, the cliff guy.
P.S. I get the digest version of this list, so I may not see your responses
immediately. If you care. :)

For me the favorite inker is definitely John Byrne himself since my favorite
work
is his FF run. Peaking around issues 245-262. But also I can't deny that I
love
the Austin inked X-men issues. So smooth!

For me least favorite inker, when I have to choose, for example Scott
Hanna's
inks. Just too little of Byrne's own style shines through.

Subject: Byrne Inkers
Hello whoever you are:
I thought I'd throw out a question on John's various inkers.
Favorite Inker: Joe Rubenstein
When I was younger, it was Terry Austin. Looking back on it now, I
really like Joe's inking in Captain America.
Least Favorite Inker: John Byrne
I did not like the way he inked/finished his Wonder Woman pages. I liked
the early FF stuff, but it seemed to get "cruder". Of course, I don't
ink so what do I know.
I think John is best when he does tight pencils and has a really good
inker. I would like to see some of the Cap stuff in B/W.
Just my 2 cents.

>> I'm a Fellow Byrne lover. I'm a fan of his since I first Gazed upon
FF#259.
I think what really introduced me to Byrne was the Dark Phoenix Saga TPB. I
thought the art was great and being young, I thought all the Marvel comics
were drawn that way. It was rather disappointing when I discovered otherwise:)
I of course followed him after he left the X-Men for the FF, Alpha Flight
(The Talisman Intro story was really fantastic) then for his short lived
HULK, then Superman.

This fave 5 Mike mentions might need some explanation: Mike is also a
member of the comic art mailing list at onelist, this is a list for collectors
of
original art pages of comics. A lot of members have some of the original art
pages they own posted at a website for the members of that list.

Hey Guys
I'm a Fellow Byrne lover. I'm a fan of his since I first Gazed upon FF#259.
I always knew of them but when I saw that Issue it opened up Comics in a
whole new medium. Seeing the Fight Between Tyros and Ben was great. I've
followed him since then. My first love in Comics was the Webslinger himself.
So you couldn't know how excited that John was going to do Spidey. I own
the last two covers of the Spidey Saga Drawn by JB. It was the last issue
and I've got the Regular and Variant cover. I have them on Display on my
Fave Five. I also have the semi splash of the Avengers in particular the
Scarlet Witch from the Amazing #1 and I've got a splash of the Avengers, FF,
And Spidey from Amazing #7 which I will post on my Fave Five someday soon.
They were both inked by Scott Hanna. I know he's not a Favorite inker of
Byrne and I would be to first to admit that but he did these two pages pretty
good. I'm also in the process of Getting the Jam cover for Peter Parker and
Amazing #12 by JB and JrJr. It's probably the Last JB Spidey cover in which
I'll get. Sniff :-(
Well I'm sorry for babbling but I'm such a Fan of the man. Take Care

Hey Frank, glad to see you on this list. I just signed on last night. Am I
a "Byrne Victim"? I guess you can say I am. Because inspite of the many
things I hear about him, I still check out whatever he is doing. Right now
I'm really freaking over Hidden Years. Really fantastic stuff.
As for favorite inkers, I really like Terry Austin over John. John inking
himself in the early FF was really great too. And you know, I came across a
very old Avengers issue that John did and was inked by Dan Green. I
thought Dan's inking on this particular issue was fantastic. He fit John's
pencils perfectly and if I had seen enough of it, I might have even
prefered him over Terry.
Gerry
I liked the way Terry Austin inked the first few isues of Superman.
I also like the way he inked Amazon.
Then there's the X-Men.
Oh...alright. I liked Terry Austin too. For some reason though, the
Captain America stuff appeals to me more.

First of all Walt...we care.
Second, funny you should mention "Byrne Victims" that's what a local
comic shop guy calls me (an I'm sure other Byrne followers).
What I like about John Byrne is his story telling abilities. Many times,
I find myself "reading" the pictures when I pick up a new Byrne drawn
comic.

Eelco,
I'm not sure if this will re-open the Breakdowns vs. Pencils debate. I
did not care for Scotts inks on Spidey either. But from the pre-inked
pages I saw of Spiderman and X-Men, it looks like John isn't putting in
the same detail he did to the pencil pages I saw to the original X-Men
137 ending or the Captain America that never saw print.
Then again, I saw what John Beatty did to the same Spiderman pencils.
Maybe Scott Hanna was expecting more.

He letters all the books he writes and draws. Does it at home on the
Mac. His is one of the few Marvel books, maybe the only one, that will
have lettering.

Welcome Jaco, nice to know of another Dutch John Byrne fan!
Having just finished reading the first 3 issues of Hidden Years, I am getting
used to the Palmer inks. The story flows really well!
Eelco
What do you people think of the new Spiderwoman series written
by John Byrne??
By the way Amazing Spiderman 14 & Spiderwoman 9 contain one
story.
Jaco de Vries
Hi all
First introduction:
I am Jaco de Vries
Age: 26
Live in Alkmaar, The Netherlands
I had now 5871 comics.
X-men: the hidden years, is a great new project from John Byrne.
While i didn't like Spiderman: Chapter I from him, i really do like the
first 3 issues of this series. It's beautifull drawn with assists of Tom
Palmer. Tom Palmer was the inkter of the Avengers series for
many years. This x-series starts real cool in the Savage Land, and
also brings Havok, Polaris and Kazar to the fold. I really like this
series.

Hello,
I just noticed there are several new subscribers.
I started the list yesterday and hoping the list would grow steadily. Seems like
a good start.
Anyone wants to start a topic or perhaps has an opinion about the Hidden
Years series?
