The Jamaica Bamboo Society which was founded in 1994, is a part of a global network of thousands of people sharing diverse interests in bamboo. This society seeks to cater to the needs of all having an interest in the plant, ranging from specie propagation,horticulture,harvesting,treatment,craft and construction by pooling information and arranging access to expertise.

The Jamaica Bamboo Society works with other institutions, particularly the National Commission on Science and Technology, the Forestry Department, the Natural Resources Conservation Authority, the Botany Department of the University of the West Indies, and the Scientific Research Council in Jamaica. Abroad, the Society works with the Environmental Bamboo Foundation, the International Bamboo Association and the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR)

The objectives of the Society are:-
1.0 To establish training programmes for proper harvesting, treatment and construction techniques
1.2 To promote the value of bamboo as the world's fastest growing plant and its use as a viable forestry resource in reforestation and contribute solutions to environmental problems.
1.3 To organize informational exchanges on both local and international levels for furthering education on bamboo issues.
1.4 To increase awareness of aesthetical value attached to bamboo via craft, furniture and construction.
1.5 To identify funding agencies and obtain any concessions, grants, decrees and/or privileges for the identification and development of projects that support the objectives of the society.
