Description

The Indonesian Youth Leadership Program is an educational exchange program for students between the ages of 16 and 18 from Indonesian educational institutions. Students will have the opportunity to visit the United States for a month, to engage in civic education and leadership studies and to learn more about the United States, its people and cultural diversity in America.

The Program is funded by the Public Affairs Office of the United States Embassy in Jakarta. All costs for the program will be paid by the United States Department of State and the program is free for all students who participate.

In Indonesia, the Center for Civic Education Indonesia (CCEI) will assist the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta and U.S. Consulate General in Surabaya with the administration of the program and student selection. The CCEI works with the National Ministry of Education, provincial education officials and teaching universities in 15 provinces across Indonesia to improve basic civic education instruction and curriculum. Over 300,000 students from national, Christian, Hindu, Islamic (Muhammadiyah and NU) schools have participated in CCEI’s civic education programs.

Students will be chosen from outstanding various educational institutions from all over Indonesia. Institutions will nominate top students to represent their schools, two students will be chosen from each schools nominee. A total of 34 students and 6 teachers will attend this year.

Students will be supervised and instructed by the staff of Legacy International, a non-profit educational foundation located in Bedford, Virginia. Six teachers will accompany the children and participate in the exchange.
