Citizen Journalism is act of citizen playing an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, analyzing and disseminating news and information. It has put democracy back in people's hands. Citizen Journalists, equipped with mobile phones, portable cameras, and blogs, are rapidly becoming alternative media as a reliable and wide-ranging source of information throughout the world. Citizen Journalism plays an important role on NGOs on information dissemination for widely spreading their messages to community.
This capacity building workshop will give an opportunity to the development workers to empower themselves with the know-how's of new media tools. It will explore the ways and means to become citizen journalist!

Participants |
Representatives from Civil society organizations. The ideal participant will be the one who is responsible on reports writing, dissemination, and documentation.
The basic criteria of the participant is be
(1) good communication skills in English (written/verbal) ,
(2) knowledge on usage of the Internet/email, and
(3) interest in writing/journalism. |
· Workshop venue and agenda will be informed shortly.
· There is no participation fee to join the workshop.
· Due to limited resources, only selected candidates will be invited to join the workshop.
· There will be no travel or accommodation allowances provided to participants.
· Tea/refreshment and lunch will be provided during the workshop.

3. Capacity building to become a trainer on Citizen Journalism and ICTs.

Foundation for People Empowerment works towards development of the society through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). It has been working towards awareness of ICT tools among the civil society organizations and empowering them with hands-on training. The organization offers various technical support and training programs. The organization is based in Guwahati, Assam.
One World – South Asia is the South Asian centre of the international non-profit OneWorld network that aims to use the democratic potential of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to promote sustainable development and human rights in the region.
OneWorld South Asia works on strategically positioning ICT tools – Internet, TV, mobile, telephones and community radio – to:
· Develop knowledge connectivity through traditional and emerging media
· Build ICT assisted communication opportunities and capacities at grassroots
· Create ICT based information services and products for development interventions
The purpose is to voice the concerns of the poor and marginalised and help improve their quality of life while impacting pro-poor policies.
