Hey !!! Don't forget that noneone from the Greek
government cares about our island. Only the ikarian people
trying to do their best. And they did succed so far from
the point they were. So don't accuse Ikaria.
Hallo Friends from all over the world. I am new in this Club, but not new in
Ikaria!! * days left and i am gone! See you there rigth???<br>By the way, i am
feelnig very worry about the fires...
Because i changed my ID!! He He He!! Typical
Ikarian attitude!!<br>So what about the fires??? I agree
with the drought...In summerti,e in Eydilos, we have
only two or four (maximum) hours water...<br>And the
river Chalaris, thing about it, this year i don't thing
that will have plenty of water...It is a pitty,
because in Spring time -you must see it to beleive- it is
great!!!!

speakers.<br><a href=http://www.island-ikaria.com/flight.html

When i get down from the boat at the port of Eudilos, i will go directly to the
Kafenion of Avgas! It is a must! If you see me in the boat, speak to me i will
carrie a big cat-case!!!
To anyone who is currently in Ikaria, can you let
me know how the water restrictions are going? Are
they still one hour in the morning and one hour in the
evening? Are there any other restrictions? How is the
weather? What events are currently coming up in Ikaria? I
would love to hear from anyone who can let me know?
This is my first message, so I wanted everybody
to know that I went to Ikaria for all of June and it
is beautiful. If anybody out there is from Xilosyrti
or Christosomos send me a message so we can talk. I
know that I am day early on this but Happy Ikarian
Independence Day to all.
Hi,<br><br>I'm going to be arriving in Ikaria,
via ferry, early (3:00 A.M.) on the morning of August
2nd. The ferry boat will be arriving in
Evdilos.<br><br>Does anybody know whether there's likely to be any
available transportation to Ios. Do the local taxi services
operate that late at night?<br><br>I need to get to Ios
that night, so I'm not sure how to go about this. I'd
appreicate any suggestions anyone might have.
Thanks.<br><br>Peter
Thanks for the response. I hope for my sake, that
line of taxi cabs will be there
waiting!<br><br>Seriously though, do you think the taxi cab drive will
really be willing to drive me all the way out to Ios.
Its going to be 3:00 A.M and dark. Given that Ios is
about 44 KM, do you think they really will do this?
I thing the best way to be in Ikaria, is with a
bike! Preferably 250cc or more enduro-like motorbike.
Ride it and go everywhere, up in the mountains or down
in the sea. There is a great new road in Faros,
where the airport is, for the speed fans! And for
mountain-trailers a lot of small roads unexplored, but be
careful!!! I love Ikaria, i love my bike and my bike loves
Ikaria!!
Hello, khardalo. That is great that your from
Xilosyrti. It is so hard to find anybody from the village in
the states. Where do you live now? I am in Cleveland.
Are you going to the convention this year in San
Francisco? I am going to go. Write me back and tell me
alittle more about yourself.
The best advice that I can give you is that if
you have a relative in the Ios, call them and tell
them to have a taxi waiting for you to pick you up. If
you don't, you can always try a travel agency in Ios
or in Evdilos. Look their number up on the net and
give them a call and see what they suggest. Otherwise,
if you aren't quick enough to get a taxi, then maybe
you should wait for the ferry that goes to Ios. Or
even better yet, take the plane!!!
I'm very dissapointed that no one has answered my
questions as to how water restrictions are going? If they
are still one hour in the morning and one hour in the
evening. If thre are any other restrictions? How the
weather is now? What coming events in Ikaria are
happening. For someone who is so far away in Australia I
would love to hear any current news!
Hello to the far Australia country....<br>About
the restrictions of the water, there is nothing
official that someone can tell you. Yes there are some
local restrictions but they are not the same for all
the villages. As you propably know there isn't a
common water net at the island. Each village has it's
own.<br>For the event's you are asking, beside the local
fair's, there is the 5o tournament of YIA (Youth Ikarian
Association from Athens)of Beach Volley to Messakti beach and
the 2o tournament beach volley of YIAAK at Therma.
There is going to be a beach party on the 13th August
at Messakti with the bech volley awards of YIA and
on the 10th of August a party of YIA to the Alta Mar
club at Avlaki. On the 11th, at Evdilos harbor there is
going to be a ceremony for the anniversary of the 25
years of YIA.<br>That's for now. Hope we see you at
Ikaria this summer.
Hey Khardalo<br><br>I thought I'd do a quick
check on the net to see what came up on Ikaria, and was
AMAZED to find the number of sites (like this one), with
such full on info/news/chat groups etc...<br><br>I'm
an Australian Greek 19y/o whose Grandparents are
Ikariotes and actually from CHrisostimos... hence this
reply... It freaked me out that the Island i frequent on
holidays now and again, which only got an airport some
years ago, where the donkey overtakes the car in ppl
moving and where we had to heat water on the stove for
our baths, has a site like this?!<br><br>Anyway
enough of that... point is like I said my grandparents
are from Chrisostimos and from what I've seen/heard
we are probably thus related our or
grandparents/parents will most definitely know eachother... So write
back where possible and as your mum if she knows
Stamatis/Giorgio Kalamaras or Apostolis/Katina Mammatas (names of
my Papou and his brothers sisters)<br><br>hope to
hear from you<br><br>Anthony
Hey every1, upon searching the web for "Ikaria" I
was amazed to find so many web pages/info/chat
communities etc... how can such a li'l which barely has
running water (in our horrio anyway) be so up to date on
the net???<br><br>Anyway, I saw a few of the members
where from Adelaide, as am I... so if u r reading this
and are from Adelaide (Australia that is paidia) drop
me a line - we probably know eachother anyway
:)<br><br>Anthony Maras<br>antw0n@...
If any1 out there is from Chrisostimos, drop me a
line... I'm sure it would really freak out my papou (who
is from there) to dish out a few names of fellow
'patriotes' from the long lost past...<br><br>Who knows, we
may be neighbours back in the old
horrio??<br><br>Anthony Maras<br>antw0n@...
Anthony,<br>My father and grandparents are
orginally from Xilosyrti which is right below Chrisostomos.
I also have relative in Chrisostomos. My family
name is Facaros. My papou was Theologos Facaros and
was the first mayor of the island. My yiayia was a
Avialotis. I know some Mammatas in the states, in
Pittsburgh, that is where I am orginally from. So let me know
if any of this is familiar to your papou.
Hey Ikaria73<br><br>I'm on the phone to my papou
as I'm writing and he says he knew Theologos... From
memory he said his father or uncle was a priest, and his
wife, your yiayia was named Argioro? But he also said
it was a long time ago so he couldn't be too spcific
on the memories.<br><br>Which Mammatas do you know
in Pittsburg? I know we have some cousins over
there, some in Conneticut and maybe in Pittsburg? (as u
can see my spelling of American states/cities is
fukd)<br><br>From memory I have second cousin there (about my age -
20) named Tole/Apostole, whose mother is Mitch and
father is Theofanni? I think he's studying at a NASA
university know or something. Do you know any of these
guys?<br><br>Look forward to hearing from you.<br><br>Anthony
Thank you very much for letting me know about
some of the events going on in Ikaria. When you are so
far away it's great to keep up with the latest. As
far as coming to Ikaria, I would love to visit there
again. I have many cousins there. Mainly from Kambos.
One of them was the Major last year. Maybe I'll visit
next year! Gia from Downunder!
