Description

The Islamic practice in Romania started with the establishment of Turks and Tatars on the Romanian territory in the 8th century.Muslim communities started to grow between 9th and 10th century as a result of Otoman suzerainty in The Romanian principalities, but the territories in which Islamic religion developed most are in the south-east of Romania:Dobrogea and cities along Danube.

There are approximately 100.000 Muslims in Romania (about 0.5 % from romanians) of different nationalities:Turks, Tatars,Arabs,Romanians etc. in 80 religious territorial communities,urban and rural.Most of them are in Constanta (85%) and Tulcea (12%).The remaining of 3% are living in other territorial centres like: Bucuresti, Cluj,Calarasi,Giurgiu,Turnu Severin,Timisoara etc.

The Muslims kept their religion, traditions in all this long time and lived with Christians and people of other nationalities in total tolerance, peace and armony.
