TELL MAMA - MEASURING ANTI-MUSLIM ATTACKS

The Tell Mama (Measuring Anti-Muslim Attacks) project supports
victims of anti-Muslim attacks and also maps, measures and
analyses hotspots where such attacks take place. The project
is having success in supporting individuals and we have also
been instrumental in ensuring that vital evidence is collected
against those who have made threats against Muslim communities
and individuals.

We are looking for volunteers who can undertake research work,
be willing to be trained as caseworkers, and those who are able
to market and promote this national project. This is a unique
national project that will make a difference to those who have
been abused or attacked because they are Muslims, and we work
with multiple partners in this programme. If you are interested
in applying to be a volunteer and can commit to a period of 3-6
months either on a full time or part time basis, we would like
to hear from you. Interested applicants should read through the
website and send their CVs and a covering letter to the address
below. There is no closing date for applications.

TEARS OF AL-AQSA CONFERENCE

Date: Sunday 13th May 2012
Time: 1.30 pm - 6.30 pm
Venue: Masjid Ayesha, Clyde Road, Tottenham, London, N15 4JZ

In a hadith related by Abu Hurayrah (ra), Prophet Muhammad
(saw) said, "You should not undertake a special journey to
visit any place other than the following three masjids with
the expectation of getting greater reward: the Sacred Masjid
of Makkah (Ka'bah), this Masjid of mine (Prophet's Masjid in
Madinah), and Masjid Al-Aqsa (in Jerusalem)." (Reported in
Muslim, Bukhari and Abu Dawud)

The illegal occupation of Palestine and the dehumanisation
of its people continues unabated, and yet many Muslims are
unaware of the significance of this Holy Land where Masjid
Al-Aqsa is situated. Many of us also do not know the facts
relating to the oppression that is taking place. Come and
learn more about this critical issue so that you too can
help defend Al-Aqsa. Speakers include: Ismail Adam Patel
(Friends of Al-Aqsa), Imam Sulaiman Gani (Tooting Masjid),
Imam Abdul Majid (Al-Hidayah Academy), Ustadh Mujahid Ali
(Ebrahim College) and Tayeb Ali (ITN Solicitors). Both
brothers and sisters are welcome. Free refreshments will
be served.

THE RIGHTS OF THE HEIRS

with Brother Haroon Rashid

Date: Saturday 19th May 2012
Time: 7.00 pm
Venue: As-Suffa Institute, 25 Park Lane, Aston, Birmingham, B6 5DA

One thing we can all be certain of about in our lives is that
we will die. However, few people think about or make financial
preparations before they leave this world. As with all other
aspects of a Muslim's life, Allah (swt) has provided guidance
regarding inheritance and distribution of wealth, and He says:
"For men there is a share in what the parents and the nearest
of kin have left. And for women there is a share in what the
parents and the nearest of kin have left, be it small or large,
a determined share ..." (Surah An-Nisa, 4:7)

This short course will provide essential information on the
issue of inheritance. The Deen of Allah covers all aspects
of life and one aspect which will one day dawn upon us is the
rights of inheritance. Who should I bequeath this to and how
much shall I leave? These are common questions faced by people
in different walks of life. Learn more about the importance of
Inheritance in Islam, the wisdom behind Divine distribution of
wealth between the heirs and their rights. All brothers and
sisters are welcome. Admission is free but prior registration
is required.

ISLAMIC FINANCE & BANKING - MYTH OR REALITY?

with Shaykh Dr Mohammed Akram Nadwi and Tarek El-Diwany

Date: Saturday 19th May 2012
Time: 10.00 am - 7.00 pm
Venue: Lady Mitchell Hall, Cambridge University, Sidgwick Avenue,
Cambridge, CB3 9DA

Islamic principles on business, banking and finance constitute one
of the most confused branches of Shariah knowledge in the modern
world. This is aggravated by the fact that many who write and speak
on this subject are doing so from a perspective other than Islam.
For instance, many of the proponents of Islamic banking and finance
are actually non-Muslims. These include top finance professionals
as well as researchers in prestigious universities like Cambridge.

Regardless of what others say about Islamic finance and what their
motives may be, we as Muslims must be clear about what the Islamic
principles are on business, banking and finance. Moreover, this
should not be limited to knowing the Shariah rulings but also how
such rulings fit within the wider ethics, objectives and principles
of Islam. This seminar takes a fresh look at this branch of Shariah
knowledge, including the fundamentals - its foundations, principles
and applications in everyday life, and also a comparative look in
light of this at prevalent banking and finance practices, both
Islamic and conventional. This is a seminar that is relevant and
essential not only for scholars, students, finance professionals
and business people, but for anyone who is involved in everyday
matters of finance.

SEEDS OF CHANGE - BE THE BEST OF WOMANKIND

Date: Sunday 20th May 2012
Time: 9.00 am - 8.00 pm
Venue: Park Plaza, 200 Westminster Bridge Road, London, SE1 7UT

One of the things we often take for granted is the sisterhood that
Islam gives us. It is one of the most beautiful blessings we enjoy.
We have a common understanding, a common set of values which bond
us together. But this sisterhood is deeper than that. It's divinely
bestowed. You won't find sisterhood anywhere on earth like the
sisterhood Muslim women enjoy.

Abu Hurairah (ra) relates that the Prophet (saw) said, Allah will
ask on the Day of Judgment: "Where are those who loved each other
for the sake of My glory? Today, on a day when there is no shade
but Mine, I shall shade them with My shade." (Sahih Muslim)

In another famous hadith about the seven types of people who will
enjoy Allah's shade on a day when there is no shade but His (swt),
it is mentioned that of them are "two people who love each other
for the sake of Allah, meeting for that reason, and parting with
this love (still cherished by both of them)." (Bukhari and Muslim)

When we love someone, not because of the designer clothes she wears
or because of some worldly gain ... when our love for that sister
revolves around our common love for Allah (swt), that is a truly
special love, it is a courageous love, a persevering love, it sees
through difficult times and never loses sight of what is truly most
important. Join us at the Seeds of Change and help rekindle these
precious ties of sisterhood. We are also offering 50 sisters the
chance to book for themselves and another sister at only £25 each.

Speakers include: Rahma Abdul Latif, Lauren Booth, Yasmin Mogahed,
Fatima Barkatulla, Umm Raiyaan, Abdurraheem Green, and others.

UNJUST EXTRADITION OF UK CITIZENS TO THE US

Date: Wednesday 23rd May 2012
Time: 6.00 pm - 8.00 pm
Venue: Zakat House, 233 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H BEE

Talha Ahsan has been held in prison in the UK without trial since
2006. Recently the European Court of Human Rights ruled that he
could be extradited to the USA. This event discusses some of the
issues surrounding this and other examples of unjust extradition
of British Citizens to the US. Talha Ahsan is being represented
by Gareth Pierce, the same human rights lawyer who is currently
representing Julian Assange of Wikileaks. Talha, who was born in
London in 1979, is a graduate with first class honours and has
been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome. He was arrested at the
request of the USA and is resisting extradition to solitary
confinement there. He has never been arrested or questioned by
British Police.

Speakers include Gareth Peirce (Human Rights Lawyer), Father Joe
Ryan (Chair, Westminster Justice & Peace Commission), Isabella
Sankey (Liberty), Salma Yaqoob (Respect), Rizwan Ahmed (Actor,
The Road to Guantanamo & Four Lions), Victoria Brittain (Former
Associate Foreign Editor of The Guardian), and David Bermingham
(Natwest 3). The event will be chaired by Bruce Kent (CND).

UK citizens accused of crimes allegedly committed in the UK
should be tried in Britain on the basis of evidence open to
challenge in our courts. Talha Ahsan, and his co-defendant,
Babar Ahmad, are amongst them, as are computer expert Gary
Mckinnon, and Sheffield student Richard O'Dwyer. Then there
is Eileen Clark who is accused by the US of "kidnapping" her
grown up children who call the case "absolutely ridiculous".
We want to prevent the extradition of all these individuals
and ask the government to put them on trial in the UK and
have faith in our own criminal justice system. All welcome.

The Salam Project & Sunlight Education present:

AFRICAN / CARIBBEAN MARRIAGE & INTRODUCTION EVENT

Date: Monday 4th June 2012
Time: 1.30 pm - 6.00 pm
Venue: Muslim College, 20-22 Creffield Road, Ealing, London, W5 3RP

There will be workshops with Marriage counsellors (www.sakoon.co.uk)
and naseeha (advice) sessions with our special guest Imam Tayyeb, who
graduated from Medina University. There will also be a sisters' life
coach (Sister Aziza - married for over 15 years) and a brothers' life
coach (Brother Abdullah - married for over 20 years, may Allah grant
them barakah in their marriages. As part of this event there will be
opportunities for marriage introductions.

Other features include comedy with Limz Ali, poetry by Brother Kamal
and free refreshments. Admission is £8 if booked in advance or £13
on the door. The nearest tube station is Ealing Common. Buses N7, 83,
112, 207, 427, 607 and N207 pass close to the venue.

These are a number of reasons for organising this event. Among these
is the fact that many African and African-Caribbean brothers have
attended marriage events or approached marriage organisations in the
past but have been sidelined by the organisers and referred to us.
The divorce rate statistics among African / African-Caribbean Muslims
in the UK is alarming. Many so-called Muslim community organisations
have also shown that they are not interested in assisting brothers
and sisters from African and Caribbean backgrounds with regards to
getting married. In some cases they have even actively discouraged
Muslims of other backgrounds marrying African / African-Caribbean
Muslims. Notable exceptions are Acton Mosque, Lewisham Mosque, North
Brixton Mosque, Edgware Mosque, Islamic Circles, and a few others.

this surah was revealed to him in response to their request. It
contains the essence of his wisdom in the form of advice he gave
to his son which was full of profound benefit. Indeed, Luqman (as)
the Sage had great insight into the truth which summarises the
