As an update - I reapplied it (twice now) and there is no change. On reboot, the
time is still an hour behind and when the script finishes (but before flash_sync
runs), I see 'timeout for ntp.ubc.ca'.

Running /usr/sbin/set-time has no effect either.

Okay, well there was a script change for the set-time script as well.
But since it is a root script, it needs to be modified on the box by the
root user.

The ntp.ubc.ca was shut down (without my knowing), so not that script
should use:

rdate -s ntp.irlp.net

(This at least I have control over).

It could be that the timezone is correct, just that your time can not be
updated because the set-time script is bad :)

What is your node number - I will log in and have a look to see if I can
figure out why this is happening.

Hi Dave,

I tried reapplying the fix yesterday and have had no success. The script runs,
but following a reboot the time does not change.

My city is most certainly there - Australia/Melbourne.

Okay, I have updated the zoneinfo files that are pulled down by the fix-dst
script.

So if you are having trouble with your timezones, you can try to get this new
version of the fix-dst script and zone files, and it should fix any problem. The
files were updated on September 17th if this year.

Here are the commands to run fix-dst

log in as root
cd /root
wget ftp://ftp.irlp.net/fix-dst
sh fix-dst

It will download the new zones, and ask you to enter your timezone again.

Happy updating!

Looking for information on what is connected to DB9 pin 1. IRLP Embedded Machine
Information Rev. 1c - June 20, 2007 shows no connection to DB9 pin 1, but the
pin is attached to the V3 IRLP board via the ribbon cable. I noted that pin 9
has been re-purposed for audio. I need a "spare" pin for my project...pin 1
LOOKS like a likely candidate.

Thanks for any information.

Yes, Pin 1 is not connected to anything specifically. It is routed to the IRLP
board, but it open circuit.

Hi all,

Posting this on behalf of Craig Meddings VK3CRG. His embedded node 6789 is for sale and it includes everything - the node, the radio (a brand new IC208H) and embedded cable. The IC208H has four and a half years of Australian warranty left.

Cost all up is $1500. Australian buyers only.

It is listed on VKClassifieds here: http://www.vkclassifieds.com.au/hsx/classifieds.hsx?session_key=;search_and_display_db_button=on;db_id=92097;query=retrieval

Hi,
I administer a system with 3 embedded nodes (along with 4 "regular" nodes). In the process of running the backup_for_reinstall script I get the following error message:

root@IRLP:~/scripts# ./backup_for_reinstall
tar: stn*.wav: No such file or directory
gzip: /home/irlp/backup/irlp_backup.tar: No such file or directory
mv: unable to rename `/home/irlp/backup/irlp_backup.tar.gz': No such file

The "regular" nodes back up fine.

In the backup_for_reinstall script the line:

tar -X $ID/scripts/nobackup.list --exclude=stn*.wav --exclude=ref*.wav \
 -cvf $ID/backup/irlp_backup.tar * .pgp*

but the stn*.wav or ref*.wav do not exist in the /scripts directory.

How can I get the backup script to work with these nodes. Has this been a problem on other embedded nodes?

Thanks

The embedded nodes are not designed to be backed up like a regular node.

The backup script can not be reloaded onto an embedded node.

Dave,
OK that explains it! I didn't realize that but should have thought more about it and the fog would have cleared, Since there is no (public) installation for the embedded nodes there is no re-install! duh OK.
I just get a bit paranoid since the nodes are on mountain tops that can be hard to reach, especially in winter. Yes we do have snow in Southern California!
Node 3830 has been chugging away for 8 to 10 years, I lose track, and the only maintenance so far has been changing the fan on the case about 6 months ago. Its one of your original batches.
Thanks for the info.

The OS is specially designed for your node. It is more than just slackware, it
is a ram based OS based on Slackware.

It is designed to run with that OS, albeit older, it supports all the hardware
the best, and is easy to maintain.

If you want to convert your embedded node into a regular node, you could add a
hard drive, or a larger IDE flash drive, and install whatever you want onto it.

I just logged into your node and had a look. You did not enable the
feature in the features.env file.

export IS_EMBEDDED=YES
export USE_ECHOIRLP=NO <---- CHANGE TO YES
export USE_STAR69=YES
export USE_SPEAKTIME=NO
export USE_CONTROLLER=NO
export USE_IRLP_WEBADMIN=YES
export USE_MORSEID=NO
export START_VPN_ONBOOT=NO

Also, to run EchoIRLP on an embedded node, you need to register a -L or
-R account with Echolink. SO your ConferenceCall must be WB5NFC-R or
WB5NFC-R.

I have logged in and done this for you.

I have double-checked port forwarding, have run flash_sync after making changes
and restarted.

Hi All

I have an embedded IRLP node for sale. It was acquired in Feb 2009 and it's one
of the slackware designs that runs out of flash memory.

It was about $800 new and I'll sell it for half that. It used to be node 3330
but it's been offline for so long I think the key was deleted.

It boots up fine, audio sounds great on the radio.

New owner will have to work with IRLP folks to re-register it.

This was poorly worded, it doesn't run out of memory.  The system images is copied to RAM and executed there, that's what I meant!!

Subject: How to Set the IRLP Output Audio Level

I have run the audio_level_test script and have successfully set the input audio
(repeater controller output to IRLP input) using a combination of the IGain
slider and the repeater controller's TX gain. What a nice tool!

Now I need to set the IRLP output audio (IRLP output to repeater controller
input) level. But the embedded IRLP set-up instructions don't mention this. I
would expect there to be some way to generate separately a continuous tone and
some human voice audio in order to adjust levels. But I don't see anything like
this documented.

What is the recommended way to set the IRLP output audio level? (I can do it by
ear, but I'm hoping for something more quantitative/repeatable.)

Thanks,
Michael

On page 23 of the IRLP Embedded Manual, it refers users to the "What to do after
the install" document. That outlines one way to set the outgoing level.

http://www.irlp.net/new-install/afterinstallv2.pdf

The script you are looking for is "audiotest". As user root:

su - repeater
audiotest

I am reworking some of the docs, as there are several better ways to adjust
levels now, particularly the input levels, using tools build into your node. One
to try is

audio_level_test

it measures the level of clipping and median audio level and reports it back to
you.

Not sure if you log into root or repeater
The run "audiotest" without quotes.
Ve7ltd does voice and tones.
I also 2nd the audio_level_test Very nice tool!

If you have tried to use a UBS stick on an embedded node, and the system locked
up or froze as soon as you plugged in the USB stick, it is because of an
improper setting in the computer BIOS.

To enter the BIOS, press the delete key while the system is first booting.

Choose "Integrated Peripherals" and ensure that the USB Emulation is OFF.

This will allow USB sticks to work with your embedded node (for uploading audio
files, etc).

Ken, I checked the manual and don't see or understand the purpose.
Is this used to take weak dtmf for VoIP and have the controller regenerate the dtmf tones?
Can you please explain further?

Technically, 20 volts, but I would try not to exceed 15V.

The default value in /home/irlp/custom/timeoutvalue is 300 (seconds = 5 mins.)
This is far too short for many situations, such as participating in a net. But
it could be a good value for other situations, such as keeping the node clear if
no one is on the local repeater to respond.

For the time being, I've set my timeoutvalue to a higher value to avoid dropping
out while listening to my regular nets.

But I'm wondering if there is a "standard" or preferred method for allowing the
user to control this value on a connect-by-connect basis. Ideally, I would
envision the user dialing a command with the desired timeout value, then
connecting. Upon disconnect, the value would be back to whatever default is
configured in the above timeoutvalue file.

Has anyone done this? If so, can you share your script?
If not, perhaps someone could suggest how one might go about doing it and maybe
I can try to write something.

Thanks,
Michael
