I need to set my node 3674 to re connect after a power failure. I talked with
someone last year about this and I was told how. But I have not got around to
it and now I have lost my notes. Any help would be appreciated.

Reconnect? to what?

Do you mean automatically power on on power failure or reconnect after
it has booted?

You need to be more specific.

Yes I mean automatically power on on power

The node has to manually be turned back on at this point

But my other node automatically powers on after a power failure.

Thanks

I just read my email I originally wrote.

I had asked someone for a script ( reconnect to reflector if idle ) I must have
gotten confused.

Do you have that script?

They are set to power on by default when I build them. The only thing
that would stop that is if someone entered the BIOS and disabled the
setting, or if the BIOS battery was removed, or is dead.

To make the node automatically power on when the DC power is applied, go
into the BIOS of the computer (press ESC a few times when it is first
turned on) and under "Power Settings" or something similar, and there is
a setting in there.

It has three settings, OFF, LAST, ON. Set it to ON.

But if it is changed from the default, you should look at replacing the
little Lithium Ion battery on the board.

If I replace the battery in the node is there anything that has to be done

Hi All,

Daylight savings has come in to effect here in Melbourne, Australia and my
embedded node is still running behind. I have seen mention of a script on here
that says it will fix this issue, but I've also read that all new nodes have the
updated zoneinfo by default? I have attempted to force an update using set-time,
but it still comes back with the non-dst time.

Any help is appreciated. :)

Try to reapply the fix:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/irlp-embedded/message/232

I assume the timezone you are trying to apply is available in the list when you
use the timeconfig command?

Try the steps in the message linked above.

Rick,

I tried this on a second hand embedded node and I got a directory listing of
IRLPvMON instead of a display.

- I placed your script with my node number in /var/www/htdocs/
(Apache was set to /var/www/htdocs rather than /var/www/html.)
(The working Control scripts are there also.)

- I copied the directories IRLPvCON, IRLPvMON, and IRLPvMAP from a working node
to the same directory.

Am I missing something?

As an update - I reapplied it (twice now) and there is no change. On reboot, the
time is still an hour behind and when the script finishes (but before flash_sync
runs), I see 'timeout for ntp.ubc.ca'.

Running /usr/sbin/set-time has no effect either.

Okay, well there was a script change for the set-time script as well.
But since it is a root script, it needs to be modified on the box by the
root user.

The ntp.ubc.ca was shut down (without my knowing), so not that script
should use:

rdate -s ntp.irlp.net

(This at least I have control over).

It could be that the timezone is correct, just that your time can not be
updated because the set-time script is bad :)

What is your node number - I will log in and have a look to see if I can
figure out why this is happening.

Hi Dave,

I tried reapplying the fix yesterday and have had no success. The script runs,
but following a reboot the time does not change.

My city is most certainly there - Australia/Melbourne.

Okay, I have updated the zoneinfo files that are pulled down by the fix-dst
script.

So if you are having trouble with your timezones, you can try to get this new
version of the fix-dst script and zone files, and it should fix any problem. The
files were updated on September 17th if this year.

Here are the commands to run fix-dst

log in as root
cd /root
wget ftp://ftp.irlp.net/fix-dst
sh fix-dst

It will download the new zones, and ask you to enter your timezone again.

Happy updating!

Looking for information on what is connected to DB9 pin 1. IRLP Embedded Machine
Information Rev. 1c - June 20, 2007 shows no connection to DB9 pin 1, but the
pin is attached to the V3 IRLP board via the ribbon cable. I noted that pin 9
has been re-purposed for audio. I need a "spare" pin for my project...pin 1
LOOKS like a likely candidate.

Thanks for any information.

Yes, Pin 1 is not connected to anything specifically. It is routed to the IRLP
board, but it open circuit.

Hi,
I administer a system with 3 embedded nodes (along with 4 "regular" nodes). In the process of running the backup_for_reinstall script I get the following error message:

root@IRLP:~/scripts# ./backup_for_reinstall
tar: stn*.wav: No such file or directory
gzip: /home/irlp/backup/irlp_backup.tar: No such file or directory
mv: unable to rename `/home/irlp/backup/irlp_backup.tar.gz': No such file

The "regular" nodes back up fine.

In the backup_for_reinstall script the line:

tar -X $ID/scripts/nobackup.list --exclude=stn*.wav --exclude=ref*.wav \
 -cvf $ID/backup/irlp_backup.tar * .pgp*

but the stn*.wav or ref*.wav do not exist in the /scripts directory.

How can I get the backup script to work with these nodes. Has this been a problem on other embedded nodes?

Thanks
Don  WB5EKU

The embedded nodes are not designed to be backed up like a regular node.

The backup script can not be reloaded onto an embedded node.

Dave,
OK that explains it! I didn't realize that but should have thought more about it and the fog would have cleared, Since there is no (public) installation for the embedded nodes there is no re-install! duh OK.
I just get a bit paranoid since the nodes are on mountain tops that can be hard to reach, especially in winter. Yes we do have snow in Southern California!
Node 3830 has been chugging away for 8 to 10 years, I lose track, and the only maintenance so far has been changing the fan on the case about 6 months ago. Its one of your original batches.
Thanks for the info.

I just purchased an embedded node from another ham. My node number is 3072 I
have it all setup for my callsign and I have EchoIRLP running with my account as
well. It has Slackware 10.2 as the OS, is there something newer or should I just
leave it as is?

The OS is specially designed for your node. It is more than just slackware, it
is a ram based OS based on Slackware.

It is designed to run with that OS, albeit older, it supports all the hardware
the best, and is easy to maintain.

If you want to convert your embedded node into a regular node, you could add a
hard drive, or a larger IDE flash drive, and install whatever you want onto it.

Ok, thanks Dave. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't out of date or missing a
patch or something. So far it is working great, got it for a really good deal
and couldn't be happier. Just need to get the antenna up a little higher. ;)
