*Date : *July 4^th , Saturday
*Time : *10.30am – 4.30pm
This is to invite you to a workshop - 'What's Happening in Bangalore?
Meeting the Challenge of Protecting Lives, Livelihoods, Public Spaces
and Our Commons!'. This workshop is being jointly organised by Hasiru
Usiru, Environment Support Group (ESG) and CIVIC. The session plan and
venue details are in the note attached and also pasted in the latter
half of this email.
As you are aware, there are a slew of ongoing infrastructure projects in
the city, each of which is causing a tremendous loss of trees,
dislocation of slum-dwellers, small traders and home-owners. While the
need for infrastructure is not being debated, the manner and nature of
this needs to be questioned. The brazen and undemocratic nature of
infrastructure development has ensured that many of the projects have
not met their stated objectives and at the same time caused immense
damage to the city.
This workshop is aimed at seeing what each of us can do to tackle the
loss of lives, livelihoods, public spaces and our commons. The idea is
to - share information on causes and impacts, planning and design, laws
and policies and discuss plans of action.
How do we hold the government accountable? Are protests the only way
forward? How do we dialogue with the government? How do we get access to
public information? How do we develop sustainable transport systems? How
do we protect livelihoods? These are some of the questions for which
we'll seek answers for together.
Please do come and participate in the workshop, this process needs you.
Let's understand what's happening to the city and what we can do about
it. It is that simple, really - stepping out and making time for
meaningful conversation and progressive actions. /*
