If going to sit on the potty has become boring and matter-of-fact, then you're probably ready. The purpose of the wait is to let the child process. It would make sense that a three year old would need less time to process than a two and a half year old (who are developmentally more dramatic)
This is not to say that the NEXT step won't elicit some drama, but that THIS step has gone past that stage. Luck and joy to you!

How important waiting the full 28 days? We've been doing the twice-a-
day routine with my son (who just turned three). I'd sort of like to
do away with diapers this weekend, when it will have been three weeks
of practice. We have absolutely nothing going on, and it just seems
like it would be a good time to start. But I don't want to do that if
the extra week will push him a little too hard. So far he mostly seems
pretty OK and matter-of-fact about sitting on the potty, although he
sometimes gets upset if I drag him away from something fun to do our
practice.
