Hello Everyone

I should have mentioned last time that I just finished adding quite a bit of
material to my website about Women in Vietnam (although not all the material
I have been sent.) Check it out, particularly:

Photo Tours at http://www.illyria.com/vnwtours.html Two more people have
contributed photos of their tours, so I am highlighting the four on-line
scrapbooks I have now. You have to see these to appreciate how interesting
they are. Thanks again to the women who took considerable time and effort
to share their photos.

Health Stuff at http://www.illyria.com/vnwhealth.html These are links to VN
related health problems. The focus is on women of course.

Help for Students at http://www.illyria.com/vnwstudent.html You guys are
popular! I get a lot of requests from students for women to interview.
This page is an attempt to head the kids off from asking uninformed
questions, to educate them that vet interviews are not to be undertaken
lightly & may not be necessary, & lastly to provide the names of women who
*may* consent to an interview if the student *really* has to do one. Take a
look at this controlled environment -or rather an attempt <G> to control the
environment. I would like to have more participants to spread the burdon,
so please consider doing this. You may opt in and opt out at any time and
your participation is appreciated, whatever you can do.

I had a note from Mo Nerli about the success of her campaign in California
(Congratulations Mo!) to commemorate civilian women who served:

Maureen Nerli here. Just a quick note to tell you that I spoke to the
California Assembly on Monday, January 10th. The resolution, ACR83, passed
the Assembly. Now it goes onto the Senate. I will be in Sacramento for
that too. And when Governor Grey Davis, a Vietnam veteran, signs the bill
into reality.

Assemblyman Ted Lempert, who sponsored the legislation, was so helpful to
all of us. Lily Adams came along and was asked to say a few words too. We
both cried when the Assembly passed the resolution. Why not! Nearly 30years
in the making, this resolution will make history.

Hello! My name is Lena Fairless; I am a junior nursing student at
Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. Last evening I watched
the LTC program, "Vietnam: Women at War". It struck a stong chord with
me and as I watched I copied down all the nurses names featured on the
program.
Do you know of a nurse living somewhere vaguely close to
Kirksville (Kansas City or St. Louis would qualify, I think!) who would
be willing to come to one of our nursing student's association meetings
and speak of her/his experiences at Vietnam? I'd be more than happy to
answer any questions you have concerning this idea; you may reach me at
the email address below.

Thank you,
Lena Fairless

Came across this site while researching Nursing Theorists. Suddenly, out of
the corner of my eye I spotted the name of my Professional Development
Instructor at school, Joan Craigwell. Surprise does not even cover the
emotion I felt. Pleased and proud that my instructor has an article posted
barely begins to convey my feelings. A dynamic woman, Ms. Craigwell is an
inspiration to her students. I hope that in my career as a nurse that I can
one day accomplish even half of what she has! Please look at her
article..."The War Was Pain and Fear" A special thanks for all Veterans from
me and my family. We owe you all so much! Thank You!

Great site and long overdue. I am looking for a former roommate in Vietnam.
Unfortunately I do not recall her actual name - her nickname was Tank and
she was in the Marines. As memory serves, she was dating and later engaged
to a man with the last name of Bell. I served in Nam from Nov 67 to Apr 69 -
mostly at MACV Hqs but did somem in and out of country traveling, too. Yes,
I was there during the infamous TET Offensive, too. Any help finding Tank
would be appreciated. Thanks, Pat

chance to know several of you wonderful ladies. I was in Qui Nhon, Saigon

I arrived at the 24TH at 6:35pm on Oct. 1, 1968. Missing both leg's, left
arm, broken right arm, broken jaw, broken nose, broken face and only a few
other things wrong. I can't thank you nurse's and the whole team that worked
on me enough. Colleen O'Keefe was an ANGEL the 12 days I was at the 24th.
From the 24th to the 249th at Camp Drake Japan for 10 days then onto Travis
over night. Then to one of the best hospital's in the world Fitzsimmon's
Army Hosp. The medical staff at Fitz. was top's. The Red Cross Gal's (BONNIE
MARTIN & DIXIE) were top's. Thanks for the socks on Christmas of "68"
Bonnie. Physical Ther. was something else, Dave Guy, you're the BEST. You
pushed until I thought I couldn't go any further, you knew better. Life has
been very good, the Good Lord has Blessed me over and over. But if it
weren't for the Angel's God used on us many of us wouldn't of made it!!!

Many Vietnam veterans lost their lives after to the war, of service-related
causes, but do not qualify to have their names on The Wall. Please visit the
In Memory Plaque project site and consider writing Congress in support of
bills recently introduced in the House and Senate to authorize our proposed
ground-level plaque near The Wall to acknowledge and honor these "hidden
casualties of Vietnam." Thank you for anything you can do to help. The In
Memory plaque project website includes sample letters and links to
congressional addresses, as well as photos of some of the veterans,
endorsements, legislation, press material and background information. At this
point, we have no photos of women on our site. If there is someone you knew
who would fit the "postwar casualty" description and has a relative who
would authorize the use of their photo, please be in touch. Sincerely, Ruth

This is an awesome site and long over due. Nam nurses and Donut Dollies can
never receive enough praise or thanks. We grunts owe you more then you well

69 -70 and before that at Jacksonville Naval Hospital in 67-68. Would enjoy
hearing from any of the nurses there especially Lt's Britt, Spano or
Yastishock(USS Santuary 1970 also). I have much to thank you for. Because of
you I was a better corpsman and many of my Marines went home to have
families. Several yrs ago I had a book published about Grunt Corpsmen in
Nam. My buddy has now put it on his web page at
