IC-Q7A Antenna "Upgrade"   Message List

Hi all,
This is probably old hat to you other Q7A users, but just for fun I bought
an Opek HR-
603VU antenna, which is about 17 inches long to try on my rig. I chose the BNC
version and
bought a BNC/SMA adapter from Steve Gulyas, KC2BHO, to use with the rig. He
makes a
series of these adaptors matched to mount securely on many of the current
handhelds. And
now I can also easily connect a mobile antenna to the little rig.
I can't give a quantitative comparison to performance with the regular Q7A
antenna, but
the Opek antenna does provide better performance. I do worry about the possible
hazard to
one's eyes with the longer and very thin Opek.
Just thought I'd pass this along in hopes it'll be of interest.
72/73,
Cal K4JSI
