Hi everyone,
My name is Kevin Coffman; right now, I live in a rural area about 60 miles
northwest of Phoenix. Everywhere I go, I find beauty in the land, but I want to
be Ohio where you all are.
It was with a sense of delight and hope that I happened to find your listing on
the IC.org website; the sense of delight comes from the hope that your
organization and newsgroup offer me the opportunity to take the next solid
progressive step in living in a intentional community environment in the
northeastern US -- particularly northeastern Ohio -- particularly Cleveland.
My search for intentional community is not a new effort -- from about 1998 to
2003, I searched, visited and lived in communities. However, several factors
made my search very difficult -- money, attitude of my family and ?friends?
(like I should let any of those deter me), and finally, my distance from my
desired community location (originally Philadelphia but since about 2007,
Cleveland).
I like Cleveland's urban setting with its convenient public transit and large
customer base for my work; to have friendships with sister communities in rural
areas as well as other communities in Cleveland and other urban areas would be
most excellent.
My vision would be to probably bring my truck and flat-bed trailer with a small
live-in cabin perched on the trailer to the Cleveland area; I would look for a
RV park or other location to park the cabin as a base to live in while I
searched for longer term living arrangements. Once I am settled in, I could sit
in on some of the open Intentional Community meetings and discussion groups and
meet other folks, like you all, who are also interested in forming communities.
Within six months after I arrive (maybe in the middle of winter), I would like
to buy an inexpensive house/property for about $10,000 or less (I think I have
seen such properties available, but maybe they are an illusion); the chosen
property would have at least two units and be reasonably close to light rail and
other amenities in the extended Cleveland area.
Well, that's my plan, but you know what they say, "If you want to give God a
good laugh, just start telling him Your plans."

Thanks for your interest; I would be happy to hear your plans and any thoughts
you may have on mine; its nice to meet you all (by Internet and later, in
person),
Kevin Coffman
