Palestinians to Arab masses: "surround the palaces of your treacherous
leaders"

Occupied Jerusalem: 8 April, 2002 (IAP News)

Palestinian political and civic leaders have asked Arab masses to stop
shouting futile slogans against Israel and her guardian-ally, the United
States, and instead "move to topple your treacherous leaders."

"Your demonstrations won't shake a single hair on Sharon's body, if you are
sincere about helping us, go and surround the palaces of your treacherous
leaders," said Dr. Mustafa Shawer, Professor of Islamic Jurisprudence at
Hebron University.

"Yes, I know the police will open fire on you and many might get killed,
but you must be ready and willing to sacrifice in order to liberate your
countries from the American grip."

Shawer, who was speaking during a phone-in talk show on a local radio in
Hebron Monday, described Egypt, Jordan and Syria as "security zones for
Israel."

"The ball is never in the treacherous leaders' court, it is in your court,
your kings and presidents are only treacherous as much as you allow them to
be. Yes, they failed to carry out their job as leaders, but you too have
failed to carry out your responsibility as citizens."

"True respectable citizens must not hesitate to topple their despotic
leaders when the moment they start ignoring public opinion," said Shawer.

Shawer castigated the virtual inaction by Jordan's three million
Palestinians, saying Jordan's Palestinians were "just passively watching
your brethren across the river slaughtered en mass by Sharon."

"You can do a lot, take to the streets, carry out martyrdom operations,
learn from Ayat al Akhras (a Palestinian female human-bomber),
demonstrations are not enough, not enough, not enough."

Other Palestinian leaders had harsh words for Egyptian President Husni
Mubarak and Jordan's King Abdullah.

"It is disgraceful that the president of the biggest Arab country (Egypt)
is allowing the United States to confiscate the free will of 70 million
Egyptians in return for a few millions of dollars…Shame, shame, shame,"
said Ali Abu Ghazala, a Fatah leader in the Hebron region.

"Eighteen months of massacres, siege, house demolitions, blanket
bombardment of Palestinian population centers, in addition to the daily
humiliation and confinement of his friend Yasser Arafat are not enough to
convince Mubarak to act. Are the Egyptian people that numb, that
insensitive, that apathetic to allow Mubarak to get away with his treachery?"

Abu Ghazala castigated the Arab regimes for failing to protect the lives
and interests of their own people.

"You have been purchasing weapons for fifty years, Where are your tanks,
your planes, your armies? Why don't you disband your armies if they can't
defend Arab children who are being massacred by Sharon?"
