"Israel follows higher moral standards than the rest of the world," says
Israeli President

Israeli President Moshe Katsav has defended the apartheid system currently
being imposed on the Palestinian people by claiming that "Israel follows higher
moral standards than the rest of the world."

Katsav, who was quoted by the Israeli state-run radio Sunday, described the
ongoing deliberations at the UN World Conference Against Racism, Racial
Discrimination, Xenophobia, and Related Intolerance, as "extreme forms of
anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism."

Moreover, Katsav claimed that the Israeli occupation army was behaving
toward the Palestinian people "more humanely than many people think."

Katsav's remarks starkly contradict the Israeli army's ongoing rampage of
terror and murder against the mostly unarmed and captive Palestinian people
which has left as many as 650 Palestinians dead, a third of them children
and minors, and thousands injured.

Katsav also utterly ignored the fact that in the Jewish state there are two
sets of laws and rights for Jews and non-Jews, a fact that leaves no doubt
as to the nature of the Zionist entity as an apartheid regime that is even
more insidious than the defunct south African apartheid regime.

Earlier this week the National African Congress (ANC) in a statement warned
that the world cannot ignore the plight of the Palestinian people, and that "No
international conference against racism can avoid discussing the racist
practices of the Israeli state against the Palestinians."

If any people on the earth knows what it is like to endure a racist and
oppressive apartheid regime, it is the ANC, and no one is better suited than
they to recognize it when they see it.

The ANC further stated stated:"Until its defeat, South Africa's apartheid
regime found much in common withtheir Israeli counterparts. Both Afrikaner
nationalism, as manifest in the apartheid state, and Zionism, as manifest in
the Israeli state, propagated the ideology of an exclusive 'chosen people'. In
Israel today, the government classifies its citizens as either Jew or non-Jew.
These classifications are stamped into official identity documents. Political,
social and economic rights and goods are allocated on the basis of this
classification. Such an approach is familiar to black South Africans. It is
racist."
