Description

Humanists4Science is a group of humanists with an active interest in science. We believe that science is a fundamental part of humanism but also that it should be directed to humane and ethical ends. Science is, in our view, more a method than a body of facts. It is therefore applicable to a wide variety of issues including many not usually thought to be part of 'science'. These include many moral issues and many questions of public policy; or at least of the supposed facts that underlie these issues and questions.

We seek to promote, within the humanist community and beyond, the application of the scientific method to issues of concern to broader society. We discuss science, humanism and religion, and develop our views, in this Yahoo discussion group. It’s open to all humanists.
We present our views through our website – http://humanists4science.blogspot.com/.

We are affiliated to the BHA. The group was originally known as the BHA Science Group but, after discussions with the BHA, changed its name at the end of 2008.

We can also be reached through the BHA website (under Meetup then Groups on the menu) or via our facebook group (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=48524568623).

The forum is for discussion of any topics of interest to members, and also for group plans and actions. No science qualifications are required to join this group. Members of all types, professions, experience and scientific ability are needed to inject ideas, evaluate those of others... and sometimes let off steam!

WHEN APPLYING: Please let us know how you heard of the group and whether you are a member of the BHA or another humanist organization (and tell us which).
