Hi Oral,
What type of internet do you get in the Bahamas? Do you have to pay for
every word? If getting all of the messages of hreg is a problem, let me
know. You and I can set up something special just for you, if needed to
keep you in touch with the group. I will be happy to help in any way I
can. Hope you enjoy your new life.

Thanks Kim!

I will have Internet access at home and the office. So, I will be able to
keep in touch with the group. Before I leave Houston, I will set up a
Hotmail or Yahoo email address and forward it to everyone then after we are
settled in the Bahamas, I will give my permanent email address.

Thanks

Oral

This appears to be legitimate research by Rice University, so I am forwarding this request I received.  If you choose to take the survey, be sure to list HREG to be entered into their drawing.    :)

Subject: Request for help --- academic research
Importance: High

We are faculty members in the Jones school of management at Rice University  (you may verify this by visiting the Rice website). We are conducting an academic research project studying different types of social interactions on the internet, and its influence on participants from a sociological perspective.

In this regard, we are conducting a survey of members belonging to e-mail groups, newsgroups, chat-rooms, MUDs, and other social groups on the internet, seeking information on different elements of their thoughts, feelings, and motivations for participating in the group, as well as questions about the group's value to them... The survey is available for answering on the web at the following URL:
http://www.surveypro.com/cgi-bin/surveypro/run_survey.cgi?id=2458

Of course, this research is strictly academic, and has no commercial motives or interests whatsoever. We hope to publish this research in a sociology or communications journal.

As a small token of our appreciation for participants' time, and in the spirit of the philosophy underlying the internet, we will donate $250 each (a total of $500) to two organizations/ groups/ charities of our participants' choice (we ask participants to nominate their favorite groups in the survey). We will randomly select two groups or organizations from the nominations of all completed responses.

Best wishes,

From the TXSES home page at www.txses.org, there is a link called "Product
and Service Providers" These are companies active within Texas.
You can sort for photovoltaics and solar. Most of the companies are not
limited to the geographical location of their headquarters, so it is
productive to query many of them.

Hi there,

The Texas Solar Energy Society has some used PV, wind and data
acquisition equipment for sale. It is all dismantled from its original
installation on the Watts on Wheels educational display trailer and is
currently in storage in Austin. Please disperse this information to any
one you think may have an interest.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hi HREG.

Jonathan is in the movie, "ENOUGH' with Jennifer Lopez. This was filmed in
Port Townsend right when we got here. There is a good shot of P.T. up on the
bluff. The ferry is ours. J's in 3 different shots, has a Berber vest on.
One time he is sideways holding a videocamera. It's not a bad movie, either.
Hi to all. Congrats to Mike Ewert on his new NASA (temporarary 6 months)
assignment working on sustainable earth resources. Best to all, Diane &

One option to handle attachments is to go to Group Options:
Posting: and set attachments to be discarded. If anyone on the list wants
to send an attachment, they can send it to individual's addresses, rather
than the whole list. We probably wouldn't loose much to make the
Membership "Restricted" (requiring approval), so long as we don't make it
"Closed" (joining only by invitation). It really isn't that much effort to
approve new membership requests and people can seek membership the same
way, approval just isn't automatic. Of course, looking at the header, I
can't tell if Yahoo sent that e-mail or if there's just a really clever
spammer.

My two cents,
Ryan

I recently read a news bite that said Yahoo has changed its privacy
policy, and is now selling more of its user information to 3rd parties.
Don't know if this is related, but maybe we can expect more of this kind
of thing in the future. Just proves again the old adage, "There's no
such thing as a free lunch."

See if they will reciprocate or not. The San Antonio chapter seems to
relish opportunities to lecture but is quite unwilling to allow outside
speakers to address their group. Something very odd and closed minded about
that.

Let me clarify. This is an energy conservation speaker offering to speak
to your audience, if one is available.

Does anyone know anything about these two organizations? Actually they may be the same organization - I'm not sure. Seems like we have enough in common to send some speakers to each other's meetings or to have some joint meetings or other activities or whatever.

Welcome to the Houston chapter of the Electric Auto Association! Our all-electric vehicles get us around town in style without adding to Houston's nationally infamous SMOG.
WHAT WE DO:
We don't SELL electric vehicles, but we can show you how to escape our slavish dependence on O.P.E.C. by converting that car you love into a clean, quiet, battery-powered wonder that you can plug into your garage outlet at night!
ANY car can be converted!
For most cars, it costs between $4000 and $6000 to put yourself in "GREEN HEAVEN". Once that gas-guzzling engine has been REMOVED and replaced with an electric motor, your car will be SILENT! And it will cost you only $3 to $5 per month to drive! And you'll never have to get an oil change again!!
ABOUT US:
Revived in 1987, the Houston EAA has been profiled in the Houston Press and on KHOU Television (Channel 11 Houston) as actively demonstrating that non-gasoline vehicles ACTUALLY WORK and are a solution that is NEEDED.
JOIN US:
We meet EVERY THIRD THURSDAY at 6:30pm in the Upper Kirby District Center (3015 Richmond, room 280). And come visit our EARTH DAY booth on April 7 at Buffalo Bayou along Allen Parkway!

I'm not sure if they're the same, but the Citizen's Environmental Coalition will probably have information about it/them.  They can be contacted at issues@... or (713) 524-4232.  I know the Houston chapter of the Electric Auto Association was at our Earth Day with three converted vehicles and they showed a large amount of expertise, so I'm sure they would have good speakers.

In case you missed it, there was a nice article in the 6/24 Houston
Chronicle (page 22A) highlighting Houston area students interested in
renewable energy. Names mentioned included Oral LaFleur, Kathleen and
Greg Carrier (whose Bellaire home was shown, with TSU students and Oral
checking the wiring)--that's the home HREG recently toured for its
regular meeting, and Jim Blackburn (Rice Univ.) and several of his
students.

I think it is the same group and I recall seeing them at Earth Day activities in the past as well.

I think it is a great idea for a future meeting.  I'm working on a presentation by Southwest PV for our next meeting in July, so maybe in October we could invite them.  Charlie, would you be willing to contact them for us and invite them to come to our meeting and tell/show us what they are about?

Pictures from 2 of the Earth Day events that HREG supported this year have
been posted on our website at http://www.txses.org/hreg under Events.
Please take a look.

This would also be a good time to promote membership. Please invite your
friends and neighbors to join us in HREG (free, of course). Just look under
"Join" on our web page.

Also, for you who have enjoyed participating in HREG for a while now,
consider joining our parent organization (www.txses.org) and doing even more
for renewable energy. The cost is only $25/yr. Look under "Join TXSES".

Hello Mike and gang,

I just spoke on the phone with Ken Bancroft, contact person for the Electric Automobile Club, which is the local branch of a national organization. The two organizations are the same and have been around for years. Dale Brooks is president. Ken says they have about 50 on the role but only get 10 to 12 at most meetings. Sounds familiar.

They meet on the third Thursday of each month (July 18th will be their next meeting) at 6:30pm in the Upper Kirby District Center (3015 Richmond, Room 280). This is the same building the CEC has its offices in, on Richmond between Kirby and Buffalo.

I told him when and where we meet and he suggested we might invite our members to come to one of their meetings and they will ask theirs to come to one of ours, which is also coming up next month on July 28th. I will plan to attend and hope everyone else who can will do so too. Should be interesting. I suspect we have a lot of common interests.
