HR100 Junkies,

I'm in search of a runner needing a pacer for this year's run. I was not lucky
enough to get selected into the Hardrock 100 this year ... but would love to
offer up my services to someone who needs a pacer! I live in the Denver area so
if you're local we could meet up and travel arrangements to the race will not be
an issue.

Hey Hardrockers, Just wanted to let you all know I completely tore my right
hamstring off the bone in a fall at 60k in the North Routt Coureur des Bois 90k
cross country ski race. I wasn't being cautious enough on a downhill. I have to
have surgery to re-attach it and long 4-6 month rehab. The good news is the long
term prognosis for this kind of surgery is for complete recovery. I probably
won't be doing Hardrock this year but will wait to drop entry until the end of
May to see if recovery goes better than expected.Oh Well,Don Platt

Thanks,Lewis I don't know if we've met.I have finished this race 5 times and I
think I was lulled into a false sense of security. I wasn't paying enough
attention to the dangers of the steep descents. Getting injured was the last
thing on my mind.

No. After having to withdraw last year when the AFib struck, my luck with the
lottery finally broke this year so without a HR start I won't be visiting the
States. I will try again next year and if I miss out again will possibly come
over and run another 100 somewhere. Good luck with the surgery. If I can come
back from my surgery I am sure you can from yours! You will be missed in July if
you can't make it.Cheers,Andy

Subject: A note on the 2012 Hardrock course
hardrock100@...
Send Email Send Email

Hi All,
Over the weekend I have fielded questions regarding the status of the
Bear Creek (Telluride) portion of the Hardrock course. I'd like to let you
know where we stand relative to the the recent events regarding Gold Hill
Development and it's holdings in Bear Creek.
For those who need an update from last year, the San Miguel County
Commissioners have issued a letter to the Gold Hill Development Company to
"immediately cease all efforts to prohibit public use of the Wasatch and East
Fork Trails and remove all obstructions and “No Trespassing” signs".
This
request is based upon the discovery of some evidence from meetings held in
1879 guaranteeing public access in the area.
Armed with this article (link provided below) I contacted the permit
administrator for holding the Hardrock Hundred asking for clarification and a
status update. Given the fact that this letter and the actions of the San
Miguel County Commissioners will more than likely be legally challenged by
GHDC, Hardrock's permit for 2012 will be for the course as it was run in 2011.
This means that we will be using the route through Bridal Veil Basin instead
of Bear Creek or LaJunta Basins.
If this matter resolves itself prior to the beginning of course marking
then we will consult with our permit administrator about the possibility of
returning to Bear Creek in time for the 2012 run.
In the spirit of full disclosure, it should be noted that prior to the
legal issues between GHDC and Telluride Ski, San Miguel County etc., GHDC had
allowed Hardrock full access to their property at no cost to Hardrock.
If things change or if more information becomes available we will let
you know.

So I noticed that they updated the entrant/waitlist yesterday (Apr 29th), and
now the waitlist only goes to 44. To the organizers, does this mean that those
of us with slim to no hope of getting in (originally 50+ on the 1st waitlist)
have no hope at all.
One can dream right??

HI Everybody,
The snow is melting fast in the San Juans!! If you are interested, the
2012 Runners Manual is now available on our home page
(http://hardrock100.com/).
Thanks to our web guru, Christian Griffith for making this available.
Also thanks to Charlie Thorn for doing all the work to make sure you have the
information you need in this manual!
A couple of things that have changed from the 2011 manual:
1. Thanks to Hardrocker Brett Gosney and his wife Missy for scouting out the
course and writing the course description for the leg from the top of Oscars
Pass to Telluride Town Park. Please pay attention to this description as it is
the approved course for the 2012 run.
2. We will be hosting a minimal, no crew access aid station at Burrows Park.
3. The start/finish of Hardrock has been moved back to the school gym in
Silverton. The renovations of the gym are complete and we are happy to be back
"home".
4. The actual distance of the 2012 Hardrock Hundred is somewhere around 102.5
miles. But because we've already had the t shirts printed that say "Hardrock
Hundred" we're not going to call it anything different!
Have a great weekend!

Hi Everybody,
We hope that everybody's training is going well. The San Juans are
definitely in thaw mode and we anticipate a dry run this year. We'd also like
to remind all accepted runners that June 1st is the deadline for receiving a
full refund if for some reason you won't be able to join us in Silverton this
summer; withdrawals after June 1 will be given a 50% refund. If you have any
questions please be sure to let me know.

All,

There is an error in the 2012 Hardrock runners' manual. It states that
pacers can accompany runners beginning at Grouse Gulch. That is WRONG.
Pacers are allowed beginning at Ouray.

I'm sorry for the misprint. If anyone finds other errors, please let me
know.

I hope to see everyone at Hardrock this summer.

As a side note, IF YOU WANT A PACER, read up!

The pacer/pacee spreadsheet is online and free to edit by anyone who either
needs a pacer or wants to be a pacer. It has data columns for your intent, your
experience, and contact info to facilitate finding someone.

I don't want it completely open to the world, so I won't link to it here
(especially since I once I grant access you can edit the doc freely), BUT send
me an email and I'll send the link to you.

Thanks!

Good Morning Hardrockers!

Just a quick note on a couple of things.
1. The Hardrock 2012 Hardrock is officially a go. We now a permit in place for
our event from the Bureau of Land Management. Also, the snow levels will not
be an issue this year.
2. Please remember that Friday, June 1st is the deadline for anyone on the
entrants list who drops for this years run to get a full refund.

Have a great Thursday!
