All,

The second annual Ponderous Posterior Fat Ass will be held this
Saturday, January 14, 2012. Start/end is at 321 North 31st Street,
Colorado Springs, 80904.

The course will go in the opposite direction as last year, and will
include a climb up the Incline instead of Barr Trail. In a nutshell:
Red Rock Canyon, Intemann Trail, Incline, Experimental Forest, Longs
Ranch Road, Waldo Canyon, Williams Canyon, Rampart Range Road, Garden
of the Gods. Roughly 30 miles. Lots of snow and ice. Shorter
versions available, we will have maps at the start.

There will be an aid station at the Waldo Canyon parking lot, just
past the halfway point. A truck will leave at 8:30AM for Waldo. We
will be providing water and PBR, so if you think you'll need anything
else please bring a drop bag and throw it in the truck.

Start times will be at 7AM, 8AM, and 9AM.

We will have basic refreshments (cheetos) at the finish. Colorado
Running Company has donated some beer, but nobody from Team CRUD will
be upset if you bring a sixer from your local brewery to share.

Any questions, feel free to contact me. Hope to see everyone out there!

Hello all. I will be travelling to HR100 from the UK and was wondering if anyone
could give me some travel advice, the best quickest cheapest way to get to
Silverton/ HR100 area. My plan is to arrive a week to 10 days early to
acclimatise slighly and get eyes on the course a bit. Any advice greatfully
received as I think I may be the only Brit heading out there. Please reply to my
personal mail. vamosprabalada@... thanks Tim.

Hello everyone:

I’m following up on a post from April of 2010 regarding the Gold Hill
Development Company’s closure of the Wasatch and East Fork trails that have
been part of the course of the HRH except for last year when the GHDC refused
access.

I am a lawyer for the Forest Service.  We are evaluating a lawsuit to reopen
the trails and we need photos of FS trail signs over the years.  We are focused
on the period from 1990 through 2010 but would be happy to get earlier photos as
well.  I’ve been working with the Board through Rick Trujillo but, time is
getting short, so I thought I’d reach out to this yahoogroup and see if any of
you can help us out.  So far, we have only one historic photo of a trail
sign.  There have been signs at the Wasatch saddle, the upper and lower
intersections of Wasatch Trail and East Fork trail, the intersection of Wasatch
Trail and the Wasatch Connection, and where the Wasatch trail intersects the
Bear Creek road.  It seems to be a common human trait to take photos at trail
signs.  So, I’m sure some of you have taken such photos or know someone who
did.

Please contact me if you think you have helpful information or photos.

Thanks!

Ken.

KEN, THANKS FOR YOUR EFFORTS. I DO NOT HAVE ANY PHOTOS,
HOWEVER I HAVE SPOKEN WITH A FRIEND THAT IS WITH THE BLM
OUT OF DENVER AND IS FAMILIAR WITH THIS CLOSURE.

HIS RESEARCH INDICATED THAT THE WASATCH
TRAIL IS AN OLD ROAD EASEMENT ( NOT SURE OF THE DATES)
AND IT IS QUESTIONABLE IF CLOSURE IS LEGAL?

IF THIS INFO IS HELPFUL OR YOU NEED ADDITIONAL INFO, I
COULD GET HIS CONTACT INFO TO YOU.

BEST WISHES, DICK CURTIS ( HR100 RUNNER)

Thanks Dick.

I would be glad to talk to him.  I assume that he means the trail would qualify
as an RS 2477 road under the 1866 mining law.  We are pursuing that theory as
well as a prescription or adverse possession in favor of the public theory.

Hardrockers,

Course marking for this year will start on Saturday, June 30 and continue
about 8-9 days until the course is marked. The detailed schedule will be
in the Runner's Manual published on the Hardrock home page in April or
May. However, I anticipate that the schedule will be similar to that of
past years and you can see it in the 2011 Manual still posted to the web.
Of course, the schedule is subject to change so you've got to be flexible.

There will also be a couple of days of trail work interspersed. Completing
both days will earn you an additional lottery ticket for 2013. The
detailed trail work schedule is not yet set but we usually work around the
weekend before the run.

These are great opportunities to see our incredible course, enjoy the high
San Juan outdoors, get acclimated, meet other Hardrockers, and tell
outrageous lies about all things Hardrock.

There is no need to sign up or register for course marking. You, your crew
and family, your friends, or anyone else is welcome for any or all the
fun. Just show up.

I hope to see you up in the San Juans.

Charlie

Thinking about flying out during Memorial Weekend(May 26-28) this year for a
little course recon. What are the odds/possibilities of seeing much of the
course during that time of year? Any feedback would be greatly welcomed.

Thank you…David La Duc

There will probably still be a lot of snow on the course on Memorial Day.  But
the roads are likely to be clear, so you should be able to access all of the
course.  You might want snowshoes or skis for the high ground.

Hardrockers,

Below is the Silverton Snow Report as of March 1. Regular February snows
in Silverton have made up for the season's slow start. I looked quickly at
the San Juan Mountains' SNOTEL records and they're showing generally about
90% of average snow water content for this time of year.

sacrifice to the god of Handies" when you read the Runner's Manual.

Cannot wait to read the details. I don't think I'll let my wife see it.

HR100 Junkies,

I'm in search of a runner needing a pacer for this year's run. I was not lucky
enough to get selected into the Hardrock 100 this year ... but would love to
offer up my services to someone who needs a pacer! I live in the Denver area so
if you're local we could meet up and travel arrangements to the race will not be
an issue.

Send me an email
Micah

Hey Hardrockers, Just wanted to let you all know I completely tore my right
hamstring off the bone in a fall at 60k in the North Routt Coureur des Bois 90k
cross country ski race. I wasn't being cautious enough on a downhill. I have to
have surgery to re-attach it and long 4-6 month rehab. The good news is the long
term prognosis for this kind of surgery is for complete recovery. I probably
won't be doing Hardrock this year but will wait to drop entry until the end of
May to see if recovery goes better than expected.Oh Well,Don Platt

Thanks,Lewis I don't know if we've met.I have finished this race 5 times and I
think I was lulled into a false sense of security. I wasn't paying enough
attention to the dangers of the steep descents. Getting injured was the last
thing on my mind.
