To All:
I understand there are a number of HoCo students who spent their summer "hanging out" in the local library.
Many needed just "anyplace" to go, of course some air-conditioning couldn't hurt --- and some place safe to drop a kid while the parents or caregivers go to work was probably a consideration too.
I hope those kids spent some time wondering the tacks, pulling out books and reading about random subjects. I doubt many did.
I fear we lost a terrific opportunity to reach some of our neediest children.
We have to do better. There are so many exciting things we could be doing to engage kids all year round in learning and enrichment activities--- and it wouldn't have to cost a fortune. Of well, maybe next summer.
