I concur THAT they have ALREADY been on "our" show so now it's time that we all got on theirs- with out all the silliness that they had = a couple of serious MMJ patients and Buford to set them straight on what we do and what the Show is about. Considering that it would be new territory and a "new" audience if the curbside appeal was proposed/cultivated that we could pick up new members AND could possibly pop in again for a 2 fer repeat if the chemistry was/is there.  The trick is to get them to take us SERIOUS as the laughing and giggling is long past. The advertising dollars to that NEW audience would be major....
Any suggestions or where TO from here?.....

i am trying to look for the positive in it and a lil' publicity isnt a bad thing.  i am disappointed in the overall show being treated as a joke in that manner though.  they did mention coming on the show or having buford on their show......hmmmmmm....

Hi HACK friends!

The Deck the Halls Parade is only 10 days away! I just found out last night that the Westbury High School Band will not be able to lead the parade this year. The band director's wife just had a baby, and his family is in a situation where he needs to be home now. I am talking to smaller bands in the area public & private schools to find a replacement asap.

Which leads me to you...It would be so wonderful to have plenty of art cars out this year to save the day! As you know, Deck the Halls is a creative outlet, in which we put on a show for our neighors, with costumes, music, throws, and more. I have gotten numerous letters over the years from people who share with me how much this parade has become a part of their family tradition...from very young families, to critically ill neighbors, to elderly people who have ridden their motorized wheelchairs alongside us in the parade!

I know ya'll are busy here and there, and very much in demand especially during the holidays. But please please if you can make it out to the parade, it would be such a treat! I have a website with all the details at www.deckthehallsparade.org. My phone number is 713-205-7372.

Thanks so much and happy holidays to everyone!

At This School, It’s Marijuana in Every Class

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — At most colleges, marijuana is very much an extracurricular matter. But at Med Grow Cannabis College, marijuana is the curriculum: the history, the horticulture and the legal how-to’s of Michigan’s new medical marijuana program.

“This state needs jobs, and we think medical marijuana can stimulate the state economy with hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars,” said Nick Tennant, the 24-year-old founder of the college, which is actually a burgeoning business (no baccalaureates here) operating from a few bare-bones rooms in a Detroit suburb.

The six-week, $485 primer on medical marijuana is a cross between an agricultural extension class covering the growing cycle, nutrients and light requirements (“It’s harvest time when half the trichomes have turned amber and half are white”) and a gathering of serious potheads, sharing stories of their best highs (“Smoke that and you are ... medicated!”).

The only required reading: “Marijuana Horticulture: The Indoor/Outdoor Medical Grower’s Bible” by Jorge Cervantes.

Even though the business of growing medical marijuana is legal under Michigan’s new law, there is enough nervousness about the enterprise that most students at a recent class did not want their names or photographs used. An instructor also asked not to be identified.

“My wife works for the government,” one student said, “and I told my mother-in-law I was going to a small-business class.”

While California’s medical marijuana program, the country’s oldest, is now big business, with hundreds of dispensaries in Los Angeles alone, the Michigan program, which started in April, is more representative of what is happening in other states that have legalized medical marijuana.

Under the Michigan law, patients whose doctors certify their medical need for marijuana can grow up to 12 cannabis plants themselves or name a “caregiver” who will grow the plants and sell the product. Anyone over 21 with no felony drug convictions can be a caregiver for up to five patients. So far, theDepartment of Community Health has registered about 5,800 patients and 2,400 caregivers.

For Mr. Tennant, who is certified as both a caregiver and a patient — he said he has stomach problems and anxiety — Med Grow replaces the auto detailing business he started straight out of high school, only to see it founder when the economy contracted. Med Grow began offering its course in September, with new classes starting every month.

On a recent Tuesday, two teachers led a four-hour class, starting with Todd Alton, a botanist who provided no tasting samples as he talked the students through a list of cannabis recipes, including crockpot cannabutter, chocolate canna-ganache and greenies (the cannabis alternative to brownies).

The second instructor, who would not give his name, took the class through the growing cycle, the harvest and the curing techniques to increase marijuana’s potency.

Mr. Tennant said he saw the school as the hub of a larger business that will sell supplies to its graduate medical marijuana growers, offer workshops and provide a network for both patient and caregiver referrals. Already, Med Grow is a gathering place for those interested in medical marijuana. The whiteboard in the reception room lists names and numbers of several patients looking for caregivers, and a caregiver looking for patients.

The students are a diverse group: white and black, some in their 20s, some much older, some employed, some not. Some keep their class attendance, and their growing plans, close to the chest.

“I’ve just told a couple of people I can trust,” said Jeffery Butler, 27. “It’s a business opportunity, but some people are still going to look at you funny. But I’m going to do it anyway.”

Scott Austin, an unemployed 41-year-old student, said he and two partners were planning to go into medical marijuana together.

“I never smoked marijuana in my life,” he said. “I heard about this at a business expo a couple of months ago.”

Because the Michigan program is so new, gray areas in the law have not been tested, creating real concern for some students. For example, it is not legal to start growing marijuana before being officially named a caregiver to a certified patient, but patients who are sick, certified and ready to buy marijuana generally do not want to wait through the months of the growing cycle until a crop is ready. So for the time being, coordinating entry into the business feels to some like a kind of Catch-22.

Students say they are getting all kinds of extra help and ideas from going to class.

“I want to learn all the little tricks, everything I can,” said Sue Maxwell, a student who drives each week from her home four hours north of Detroit. “It’s a big investment, and I want to do it right.”

Ms. Maxwell, who works at a bakery, is already a caregiver — in the old, nondrug sense of the word — to a few older people for whom she thinks medical marijuana might be a real boon.

“I fix their meals, and I help with housekeeping,” Ms. Maxwell said. “I have an 85-year-old lady who has no appetite. I don’t know if she’d have any interest in medical marijuana, but I bet it would help her.”

Ms. Maxwell said her plan to grow marijuana was slow in hatching.

“We were talking at the bakery all summer,” she said. “Just joking around, I said: ‘I’m going to grow medical marijuana. I’m a gardener, I’ve always dreamed of having a greenhouse, I think it would be great.’ And then I suddenly thought, hey, I really am going to grow medical marijuana.”

11/25/09, 3:50pm

This afternoon marks day 7 of the Medical Marijuana Trial of Jovan Jackson and
the defenses turn to present evidence and witnesses to the Jury. The morning
began with the testimony from James Pitts, a San Diego Deputy District Attorney
and member of the Answerdam Collective. His testimony was brief and uneventful,
much like last time he confirmed that he did visit Answerdam, had completed a
membership agreement thereby joining the collective, and that he had obtained
medical cannabis from Answerdam. Most of everything else that he was asked, he
could not recall.

Following his testimony, the jury heard from expert witness Bill Brit, who
discussed details on yields and dosages of medical cannabis, as well as the
costs and effort associated with cultivation. Mr. Britt estimated that five
pounds of medical cannabis for a collective which had approximately 1600 members
was a low amount of medicine to have on hand. He also testified that it requires
both experience and expertise to produce quality high grade medical cannabis.

Mr. Britt's testimony was followed by testimony from another patient of
Answerdam who spoke of the collectives professional appearance and quality of
medication. He also discussed how much relief the medication provided from the
severe chronic pain that he deals with.

Today we also heard from a San Diego anesthesiologist, Dr. Clark who now
specializes in evaluating patients for the purposes of determining whether
medical cannabis would be beneficial to the treatment of their symptoms. Dr
Clark described the exams he conducts as well as the procedures involved with
determining whether a patients is qualified to receive a recommendation for the
use of medical cannabis. He also discussed his training and experience as a
medical doctor and anesthesiologist.

Dr. Clark was asked if he had seen a patient by the name of Jamie Conlan. After
raising a concern about patient confidentiality, Dr. Clark having been ordered
by the judge to disclose the information, went on to describe his interaction
with this patient. In May of last year, Dr. Clark recalled, a man by the name of
Jamie Conlan coming to his office and complaining of severe anxiety and
insomnia. Mr. Conlan presented a valid California Drivers License as proof of
his identity. After asking questions about Jamie Conlan's medical history, as
well as reviewing the forms Mr. Conlan completed prior to the visit, Dr. Clark
learned that this patient had used cannabis to treat his symptoms for years
prior to that day and that Jamie found tremendous relief from its use. In
accordance with State Law Dr. Clark recommended the use of medical cannabis to
Jamie Conlan.

Dr. Clark went on to talk about the fact that some time later he learned that
this was an undercover officer who had lied to him about his identity and that
the real name of this individual was Detective Scott Henderson of the San Diego
Regional Narcotics Task Force.

In light of the Thanksgiving holiday, Judge Bashant decided to dismiss the jury
early. At 11:30am the twelve jurors and one alternate were dismissed for the
week. Both the defense and prosecution stayed behind to discuss briefly the jury
instruction as well as a few other administrative matters.

The trial is set to continue on Monday November 30th at 9:00am in Department 33.
It is expected that both sides will rest that day and that the jury will begin
deliberations on Monday afternoon.

Although much prejudice was introduced by the prosecution into the trial, it
would appear that for the first time out of all the arrest in the last three
rounds of raids by the DA, this will be the first case where the jury will get
to actually consider both the medical marijuana defense as well as the
collective cooperative defense. The future of medical cannabis collectives and
cooperatives in San Diego hinges on this case and a few others currently working
their way through the courts.

Jodie Joanna EmeryMarc is not totally free yet; there's no Victory 2010...
unless we get him out of the USA next year.

Right now Marc is just out on bail awaiting extradition. The Justice Minister of
Canada will soon have the paperwork in front of him... he can sign as soon as
December 2nd, then Marc has to go into custody to be sent to the USA within 72
hours.

It's not over yet -- it's only just begun. We're simply blessed for this
unexpected treasure of being together for a few days...
