Very nice. Congrads. Do you know if it will be put in audio form, as
in from a site like Audible.com?

Hi Sarah,

That's awesome that you have a few of your stories being published in a book
with other writers. That's fabulous!

Claudia,
this was just a bad email generated from who knows where.  Don't ever click on a link in an email like this.  It may give you a virus or take you somewhere trying to trick you into giving out your info.  You can tell by the sender it's bogus.  If in doubt, alt enter on the email before opening it and you will see its properties, where it came from, etc.

O Lisa, I'm so so sorry!!! Last time I talked to you, he had some kind of sprain and you though it was healing! What an awful year this has been for you, with the excdeption of Marcus and Lilly'ss little sis        ter--I apologize, I can't remember her name and I just got a nre computer the day beforeThanksgiving so haven't been in the email loop since late July, (I Think.)  This means of course that I'm terribly out of date and thoughI tried to call, I got te numer wrong unless it's been changed.  O by the way, How is Glory coming along at 2 and a half??  I did send an update the day I got my new computer, or the day after but I was still confused by windows 7 and am still having some problems  Sunny is fine but the stable's a bog since it's been rainine today and he and my black lab guide are totally bored.  I had to change my usually nonfunctionint front door lock and managed to lock me and Roxanne outside in the pouring rain since I had only taken her out to-- finally someone oppend the back gate so I ran into my patio which isn't always locked.  We were both drenched!    How Did Lilly take Julian's loss?  and as theholidays proceed, I hope the end of this year and all of next are much better (and that part goes for the whole group!!

Wow Lisa,

He must have been really sick or something to have him have to be put to sleep so quickly. I'm not sure how you're going to tell Lily. All I know is that being honest with her is the best thing to do for her to move on and understand. Of course, tell her in a gentle way and let her grieve her loss of Julian.

Snow, deep in the heart of Texas? Hmm, not so much. There's a tendancy
for weather people to make big forecasts of rain, or in rare cases
snow, and what actually happens is less than a trace. Anyone else
experience that? Well, such were things yesterday where there was a 70
percent chance of snow, and it did snow--for about 5 seconds. Besides,
the daytime temp was in the mid thirties, so even if it had snowed
more, it wouldn't have stuck or accumulated. Snow isn't much of a big
deal, but I was wondering about ice. Icy roads can shut things down
quickly around here. thankfully though, no ice, except on the obvious
places like bridges and overpasses. Oh well. I think my German
Shepherd guide is enjoying it though, with her layers of fur and
over/under coats. She seems to wag her tail more and prance when we go
outside. Probably wondering about all us humans that are bundled up
and hurrying to get back inside.

Hi. Thanks for asking. I keep forgetting to put up updates. Thing is,
I get home, settle into my Saturday routine and then forget about
updating until the middle of the next week, then I put it off until
the next weekend, and do the entire circle again, grin.

AS for me, we've been mixing in trotting work. We've talked lots about
f! bur Sunny is beginning to sense something wrong and my stamina is the pits.  I did get him on the writ lead in both directions today and his flat-and-running-walk were really good so I'm happy with that but I don't see how I'll survive 3 months without riding!!! In case you-ll are wondering, my 9.5 year-old computer crashed and my extremely genorous brother replaced it once windows 7 and Jaws 11 came out .t in Jan. so today may have been my last ride for a while!! I HATE IT and I'm getting a hip replacemenorm and balance when trotting and trying to post during the trot, or
at least bouncing in time with the trot. It seems like no matter how I
feel before trotting, each time we go back to the walk, I'm telling
Brenda, "Boy, that was fun!" We've also worked on being aware of where
I am in the arena. Brenda has gotten some of the volunteers, depending
on how many she has on a given day, to either lead the horse and call
out the dressage letters as we go, or stand at a particular letter and
call out the letter as we pass by, or both. I havent' been riding in
the last month due to not having a ride. There was a period where I
had steady rides up and back, but not lately. I'm trying to get some
people together that can take me to and from again. The great thing
about this therapeutic center is that it's year round, so presuming I
can get a ride out there, I can have lessons in December, January, and
so forth.

That's all from deep in the heart of Texas,

Yep, lots of leg workout for you.  Just continue to feel that rhythm and pace and when you start feeling it change, put a little calf on.  It may be as much as every few strides, but you'll get the hang of it.  Wow, what big horses.  Will be interesting to see how much their trot is different from Paint's.  Much longer stride which you will notice I'm sure.

Yes, I'm still riding Paint. He has a fairly smooth trot, though
Brenda is encouraging me to keep encouraging Paint to trot. She's
pointed out that if you just tell him once or twice, he'll start to
trot then slow down again. I think one of Brenda's goals for me is to
ride independently but I don't know when that is. I suppose when both
she and I feel comfortable. At some point, I'm supposed to switch to
another horse as well, a taller one, either the 16 hand or the 18 hand
horses she has, but I don't know when that's supposed to happen

Yes, I'm still riding Paint. He has a fairly smooth trot, though
Brenda is encouraging me to keep encouraging Paint to trot. She's
pointed out that if you just tell him once or twice, he'll start to
trot then slow down again. I think one of Brenda's goals for me is to
ride independently but I don't know when that is. I suppose when both
she and I feel comfortable. At some point, I'm supposed to switch to
another horse as well, a taller one, either the 16 hand or the 18 hand
horses she has, but I don't know when that's supposed to happen
either.

Excellent Wayne!  Trotting is fun.  Are you still riding that paint?  Does he have a smooth trot?  Is brenda going to start working with you on more independent riding?  Boy, transportation sucks doesn't it?

Things have been quiet on the list lately.  Just wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing.  No news is usually good news.

Kimberly, are you still in lessons?   Nella, have you been out on the trails now that it's not blazing hot?  Wayne, are you still with the same instructor and is it going well?  anyone else?

Show season is over for me, but it ended up not being much of anything.  I had problems with bleeding, couldn't leave the house much, and ended up having a hysterectomy six weeks ago.  I finally got back to riding last week.  I went to a fun show Saturday.  I got 4th of 8 in open walk/trot and got 4th of 6 in adult pleasure.  This is a 4-show fuzzy horse winter series I happened to find out about.  It was a nice place, a medium turnout, and I hope to go to the next three.

Back before my surgery, Stacy had a talk with me.  She said Sassy is as good as she's going to get, and we need to decide where to go from here.  We are finally going to get serious about horsemanship this winter.  I will do fun shows whenever I can.  It's just too much fun to give up all together.  Sassy will still do fairly well at the one larger circuit I like but never nominated for points.  I will just enjoy whatever I am able to do.  Attending clinics is still a possibility.  The long-term plan is still to get my arena fixed in the spring and bring Sassy home, just hauling in for lessons once or twice a week.

I only got to trail ride Wyatt twice before my surgery.  Some proboems have come up with him, but I won't get into that now.  I don't think it's anything to be concerned about or that I can't fix when the weather is better.

Hope to hear from some of you soon.

Wow Lisa,

He must have been really sick or something to have him have to be put to sleep
so quickly. I'm not sure how you're going to tell Lily. All I know is that
being honest with her is the best thing to do for her to move on and understand.
Of course, tell her in a gentle way and let her grieve her loss of Julian.

Hi Penny,

Thanks for the kind words.  My knee is doing OK.  I did wind up with just a mild infection but I am back on an antibiotic.  My doctor sent me to a local Wound Center with the wonderful Dr. Romeo.  She is what all doctors should be.  She is smart, efficient and she explains everything in layman's terms.  Her nurse is a whiz too.
She debrided the wound removing the very large scab that was the flap of skin that came down from the place where it split.  This skin was dead and needed to come off.  It was very soft and did not hurt.  Now she has me applying a collagen gel which is also debriding it.
Today I go back so she can apply a vacuum dressing that will sloth off the dead cells to make room for the new ones.

With the scab gone, I can bend better and went back to driving about 10 days ago, much to my husband's delight.  He had to chauffer me all over and as Kim can tell you, I am never in one spot too long.  I am still staying out of horse stalls, the pastures and the arena while this is open and still healing.  I don't need another fall.  With the bandage on my leg is a little stiff and makes me off balance more than usual!

Our volunteers have been a blessing.  The just took over and did the necessary so we did not have to cancel any classes.

Sometimes it seems that when it rains it pours, but as my husband keeps saying, this too shall pass and we will get through it.  He is right!

Thanks.

Pam

Hi Cheryl,

Thank you so much for your thoughts.  I am still fighting with the whys when such a good person is taken from us, and in such a violent way, but I know God has a plan.  It is not always easy to understand.

We are now celebrating his life, rather than mourning him.

He did so much to help our program and at the memorial the family had requested donations be made to Harmony Farms in lieu of flowers.  The checks are still coming in.  Several family members and business associates of his approached me at the memorial to say they will do their part to continue the work that Malcolm started to make our new facility a reality.   Several others said they want to pattern their life after his goodness and start helping others more.  He was such a good man and a perfect example of what you can do if you put others needs ahead of your own.

We are naming the new facility Harmony Farms at The Malcolm Lavender Equestrian Center.

Even now, he is still helping us!  So yes, I agree, good things come from bad.  I just think happy thoughts of him and see him up in heaven now riding my QH named Cody!

Thanks again.

Pam

I am so sorry Lisa.  I am however glad that if something had to happen, it happened after you had safely given birth to your daughter.

Pam, I am sorry for the loss of your friend also.  My son gave a testimony at his church that was basically how the worst day of his life (when our son & his brother died) was also the best day of his life (when he committed his life to Christ).  I hope that doesn't offend anyone on the list, but I truly believe that good things can come from bad.......it just takes time.

Have a good day,
Cheryl

I am so sorry Lisa.  I am however glad that if something had to happen, it happened after you had safely given birth to your daughter.

Pam, I am sorry for the loss of your friend also.  My son gave a testimony at his church that was basically how the worst day of his life (when our son & his brother died) was also the best day of his life (when he committed his life to Christ).  I hope that doesn't offend anyone on the list, but I truly believe that good things can come from bad.......it just takes time.

Have a good day,
Cheryl

Lisa,
I'm so sorry to hear about Julian.  I've not had to endure that experience yet, so I can't imagine what you are going through, especially with the added emotions of telling little Lilly.  I wish you well.

Hi everyone,

Gordon went out ot feed the horses this morning and came back 5 minutes later and told me that Julian was down in the stall and wasn't moving.   We called the vet and he got here around 8:30 and immediately put Julian to sleep.   Julian was too weak to even lift his head.

He had been thin, about a month ago, at weaning, when Leia's milk had dried up, but he was gaining weight, so I was hoping he'd be okay, but a huge pile of diarrhea was behind him on the floor of the stall, so we are suspecting a sudden and accute case of Salmonella.   The vet is running some fecal tests to see, but they are not always accurate in picking up the shedded Salmonella cells, so the vet said to totally disinfect the stall.

Gordon will be stripping it out and bleaching it and then putting lime down.   We'll have to leave it empty for awhile, to let everything sit.

Julian is being buried right now, as I type this.   He is being laid to rest next to Bunny.

He had a short life, full of issues, I guess it just wasn't meant to be.   If you remember, he almost died at 2 days old and his mom almost died, due to foaling complications.  They both did great for awhile, but he just never seemed as healthy as Marcus.  He'd play and run, but not as much.   WIsh I had mor e money to spend to have found out what was wrong, but he never was in distress, until this morning, so I know we did what we could for him.

Now, to figure out how to tell Lily, as she did really like Julian.  How do you explain to a 4 year old that one of their favorite horses has gone on.

Rest in Peace little Julian, we will miss you:

Lisa,

It is La Dia los Muertos, Day of the Dead, a day Spanish people celebrate the memories of their loved ones. I am sorry, as we all are, to hear the news.

Yesterday I buried a dog for some friends. The kid is fifteen, and he suffered the hardest with the dog being his childhood puppy. It is safe to say that all of our friends, two or four-legged will enjoy each other's company in Heaven.

I'm so sorry Lisa.  This is so sad no matter when in their lives it happens.  I hope that Lily can understand in some small way.  It is such a hard thing for kids to understand.

Oh Lisa,

I am so sorry.  At least he is at rest.

We just had a very close friend from the ranch die in a plane crash in Texas over the weekend.  I believe that everything has a reason, but we may not know it right away.  God has a plan for our friend Malcolm and for Julian too.

Take care and let Lilly know that God needed Julian in heaven for a special job.  Hope she is OK.

Hi Pam,

Thanks so much for helping.

Rachel has a cold right now, not fun with an 8 week old.  It doesn't seem too bad, but her cough is pretty congested sounding.  No fever or true trouble breathing, so she hasn't gone to the doctor, don't want to risk her picking something else up at the doctor's office, just over a cold.

Lily was sick a few weeks ago, not sure if it was H1N1 or not, she had a very high fever, off and on, for 3 days, but no real other symptoms, except for a bit of fatigue, then her fever broke and she was congested for a week after that.  But she is fine now.

Otherwise, everything else is going pretty good.   I'll update on horses soon.

Take care,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I sent her a reply and told her to check out www.floridahorse.com in the classifieds and employment section.  They had many jobs listed like what she was looking for and to also check craigslist in her area.  I will also spread the word.

Hope everyone in your family is doing well including the newest addition!

Pam

Hi everyone,

First, sorry to post this to the list, I couldn't find Pam's email address.

Pam, not sure you can help, but thought it was worth a try.  I have been in touch with this lady for over a year and she appears to be very nice and responsible.   I believe her husband is a farrier, as well.

Even if you don't know of a job, I thought maybe you could help pass the word around to help get them out of this situation they are in.

Again, I apologize for posting this to the list.

Take care,
Lisa

first, i hope this works.. i have no internet except my phone and ive
not tried sending a group email from here before.

second, if this does work, its a longshot but im trying everything....
does anyone here know of anyone in florida who is needing help? my
husband and i are stuck on a horrible farm. the woman doesnt pay and
she doesnt give a damn about her animals either. we need out, but its
hard to find a job with a place to stay. ive answered many ads i find
on the internet. most never return calls. we are in the ocala area.
even if someone knows of anyone shipping in soon who may need anything
from mucker outers to riders to trainers! we're one of those jack of
all trades working couples :)

like i say, its may be a long shot, but sometimes word of mouth is the
best and only way to find jobs! thank you everyone
