Honmon Butsuryushu means "Buddhism of Sacred Origin".
The practices of Honmon Butsuryushu are based on the teachings
of the Buddha Shakyamuni as handed down through the
Lotus Sutra (Saddharmapundarikasutra), as well as the
spiritual teachings of Nichiren Daishi (1222-1282),
the saint and Japanese prophet who reformed Buddhist
schools and returned to the instruction of the Lotus
Sutra Origins (Honmon). Honmon Butsuryushu was founded by
Nissen Shonin in 1857.
