Thanks for the advice. I took it to the dealer and they said it was the gas.
Because it had not been run for a long while the gas had to be replaced. They
did a it and now it runs fine. They said the engines need to run frequently to
recirculate the gas and get new gas. So I'll see what happens. They said it
does not need a valve adjustment for quite awhile, it just needs to run.

I had a similar problem with my '03 Honda Ruckus, (at 3,300 miles). I started by replacing the spark plug, computer and carb. Take your serial number to your local Honda dealer, they should be able to order your key, or may have it in stock. I bought an extra key for my Metro at Honda. This only works if you have the original ignition.

I need to find out the front axle size on a drum brake Metro? Does
anyone have their scooter apart that can check that diameter for me.
The second half of my question is if that axle bolt diameter is 12mm
what is the inner drake drum diameter? There will be a mimimum
dimension stamped on the inside of the drum and I need to know that too.

For anyone that is curious I'm trying to restore an older three wheeled
scooter (a Zoe Zipper) that used the Japanese market "Lead 50" scooter
as the basis for its parts. The brakes and wheels on mine are shot and
parts are no longer available through Honda. I want to get a similar
but more current wheel and drum brake system and switch over all the
parts to that.

Thanks,

The tires on the met are tubeless.  I would not be so keen to change the front tire size.  You could radically change the steering geometry, resulting in unfavorable or even dangerous handling characteristics.  As far as size goes, I would thinking going much larger that 12 inches would make a ride height between the front and the rear.  Its usually not a good idea to change to tire width unless you find a wider wheel.  Measure the clearance between the existing wheel and the forks and you know how much wider of a wheel you can get.  I have found that making small changes to the met result in large and unexpected results, like the time in increased to air box opening by a couple of inches and complete ruined the carberation.  Whatever you do, be careful.

Has anyone on the list had issues with the SE valve n their Metro? My
scooter recently became very hard to start and the throttle bogs the
engine down unitl it's warmed up. After warmed up it runs just fine. It
definitely has symptoms of a choke/enrichment problem.

I checked and the valve appears to be plugged in fine to the harness.
I'm wondering if it might be stuck closed and if anyone on the list has
experienced and/or corrected this problem before.

Hi Danny,
I cannot find anyone with the K&N filter kit. Can you elaborate on it. Where can it be found in the US? Have you played with any of the after market variators? Anhy good?

Thanks

Best Regards,
Steve

The Metro is equipped with an electronic Rev Limiter, with stock size tires, and stock gears, 38 Miles per hour is maximum speed. If you change the electronic module to an aftermarket that has no limit, or has a higher limit, under optimal conditions (Light weight rider, with a tail wind) 45 MPH can be attained. But modifying your metro to go faster than 40 MPH, you should upgrade the rims and brakes to the hydraulic Disc brakes.  I think Battle Scooter is where the parts came from when I upgraded my cousins Metro to disc brakes, drive train, and I also overhauled the engine, I punched it out to 70CC with all the electronics, and a super trap exhaust, there is one made for the metro and the Ruckus. With all the mods I did, her metro now will maintain 55 MPH, and fuel mileage is close to 80MPG, of course she only weighs 90 pounds and is barely five feet tall. I thought she was nuts ordering all that upgrades when for all that she could have bought a 150 CC scooter. Or even the Honda CBR 125, which I hope Honda starts selling them in the United States.  Any way, my cousin is in love with her Metro with the flower paint scheme, and she has money to burn. I have a 2007, but I may buy me the 2009 Gothic paint scheme metro and give my ruby metro to my son. Or I could order all new panels, but I bet they are expensive.

This is my Metro (Red Metro pictured Below), The K&N Filter made it run with smooth and firm acceleration. I am also getting 150 Miles between fill ups when cruising. I bought my K&N Kit from my Honda dealer. The factory intake hose has a second opening that is capped off, you remove the cap. Install the K&N, then you block off the air intake on the air box with a rubber cap that comes with the K&N kit. Now on flat straights It gets up to speed and stays right on the rev limiter. I have no plans on removing the rev limiter. I now have almost 14,000 trouble free miles. I even rode my metro to the top of Mount Hamilton. It did start to dog as I got over the 2,000 feet above sea level mark.  I use my metro now for my primary vehicle, since I put an extra large trunk in the rear, Now my storage is enough to do my grocery shopping. I can carry 2 cases of soda in the rear trunk and under the seat I have enough to put a weeks worth of meat and veggies. I did modify the suspension and structure to carry the weight. I did that the same week I bought It since I weigh over 200 pounds. I originally purchased it to replace my old Yamaha QT-50 which was my Pit Bike for so many years. But I shattered my back and my racing days are over. I went from a 500 dollar a month gasoline bill to less than 50 bucks a month on gasoline. The bike pays for it self, and then some.

My metro will get to 60kph, about 38 mph, on flat ground with little or no head wind.  You can keep it at this speed for as long as you like.  My wife has a 25 mile commute from suburban Chicago to work, and she is flat out the whole way.  No harm will come to the scooter.  I have 11,000+ miles on my 2005 model.  98% was done at its top speed.  The only parts I've had to replace, because it was starting to slow to a top speed of 33-35 mph,  were the drive belt and the roller weights in the transmission.  This is a cheep  and easy do it you self job.
