After upgrading to 2.7f have been unable to crash it anymore ;-) but
today it became apparent that something is odd with the Phone/CID
section. The same macro that worked before the upgrade does strange
things now. The Phone macro changes the video input from TV to Video 1
for :10 seconds (to display CallerID info) and then presses IR Video3,
Video+, Video+, Video+ to return to TV video. With 2.7f the same macro
now changes the Cable box channel to 99.

Unzipping 2.7c, launching and redownloading the original schedule and
it works as before.
Gone back to the 16bit version for now...

Again, I do not see that here Dan, I am using the same resolution as you
except that mine is running on Win2000.

One strange thing did happen just now though. Out of nowhere I saw constant
activity in the X10 transmission. In looking at the terminal server the J
mode of X10 was sending constant commands. I do not have anything programmed
into J, nor do I have a transmitter set to J. In fact I unchecked ALL of the
J enable boxes and re loaded the controller. Still went crazy.

Shut down HV 32, reloaded HV 16 and an older schedule (by about 3 hours) and
things are still again.

Go to Advanced/Security TV Screen and then go to the "Select macros" tab.
The text for the label control for item 4 is wrapped and I can't see the
last word . I can see "Change perimeter" and then I think the last word is
supposed to be "Mode" (I can only see the top few pixels of each letter).

I am running Win95 OSR2, 1024 x 768, 256 color, large fonts.

I just checked and this is also a problem in 2.7c 16-bit, I just never
noticed. Making the label control a little wider should fix it.

The Port B inputs have 2700 Ohm "pullup" resistors connected to 5V. The
input chips also draw a good deal of current to ground. This drops the
voltage to around 3V (which is read as "high") when the input is not
connected. If you connect a switch (or other contact closure) from the
input to ground, it pulls the voltage to 0V, which is read as "low".

When you apply 12V, the voltage goes even higher than 3V, and is read as
"high". If your 12V signal went to ground when not activated, then it would
be read as "low". However, if it instead just opens when not activated,
HomeVision can't distinguish between the two conditions, as they're both
"high". Ideally, we should have allowed you to remove the pullup resistor,
but we didn't.

So how can you make this work? What you have to do is add a resistor from
the input to ground. The idea is to drop the voltage (when the input is
open) to less than 1V so it's read as a low. Resistors between 560 and 680
Ohms are ideal, but values as high as 1K will normally also work.

The answer is that the driveway monitor is putting out 12 volts when active
and a ground when not. In this case you would not use a pull up resistor
at the HV if you could indeed hook 12v to its input. You would let the
driveway monitor do that for you internally.

However, since you said the HV uses a pull up to 5volts, I would not hook
12v directly up to its ports. ( I don't know the specs so I am saying this
for safety reasons). Your best bet would be to hook up the output of the
driveway monitor to a relay and then use the contact closure in conjunction
with a pull up resistor on the HV.

You have to make sure the driveway monitor can supply enough current to
safety operate a relay. If you need sensitive relay operating at less then
2mA try www.elkpro.com.

Why not use that 12v to power a relay and use the contact closure from the
relay for the input to HV.

That way you dont have to change any programming either.

I need some pretty basic help/education from one of you electrical
engineers out there. I've been using input ports successfully to measure a
contact closure, and I understand perfectly how the 5v source with the
pull-up resistor works. Despite that confidence, let me try to explain it
in a sentence if for no other reason than to give background for my
question/confusion below. When the circuit is open, no current is actually
flowing, so there is no voltage drop across the pull-up resistor, so the
input port measures 5v. Once the circuit is closed, all 5v must be lost
over the pull-up resister (and to whatever resistance there may in the line
itself, which I'll assume is negligible), so the input port measures a low
signal since it measures the voltage after the pull-up resistor.

I now have need to have HV detect a 12v signal (from one of those new
wireless driveway monitors from Design Tech) rather than simple contact
closure. The manual give an example of a 5v external source, stating that
it can simply be hooked to the input (and use a common ground). Would
someone please help me understand how that works? When the 5v is not being
output from the external device, it would seem that the input would still
see 5v for the same reason described above. An exception might be that the
current is allowed to flow into the external device, but I'll assume that
doesn't happen. Now, when the external 5v signal is activated, doesn't the
input port still measure 5v? How do I ever produce a low signal for the
input port? I have this feeling I'm missing something very obvious, so
fire away with your response. Thanks.

Thanks for this tip off on this Dan, I thought I had "upgraded" to 2.7f, but
it was really 2.7e.
No more dde problems with ACE-S32 and 2.7f.

I have verified that 2.7f works with the 32-bit ACE Server. Thanks Craig.

Craig, if you want to change your internal name back to HomeVision, I can
change ACE to use that instead. The only reason I can see to do this would
be to allow both the 16 and 32 bit versions of HV to run at the same time,
which is probably not necessary.

Craig, I noticed that on your web page, both the full installation and the
upgrade are labeled as being 2.7f. But, only the full installation is 2.7f.
The upgrade is 2.7e. So, anyone using the upgrade file to upgrade will not
get 2.7f.

Everyone, make sure you check Help/About on the HV software and make sure
you have version 2.7f if you are also running ACE.

George,

Make sure you have the latest 32-bit Beta version (2.7f) from our web page,
as the earlier versions wouldn't do DDE properly. The problem was related
to how we changed the application name from "HomeVis" in the 16-bit version
to "HomeVision" in the 32-bit version.

Craig,

I am getting NO DDE conversation with HV and ACE while running under
Win2000. Don't know if it matters but I am running off the 2.74 beta prom.
Also on a side note and I don't know yet if it has anything to do with the
2.74, but I learned a new remote into HV last week. However, even though it
learned with no problems, so far it has not been able to transmit the codes
back.

George

Mike,

Yes, you can do what you want. It's perfectly fine for the actions for H1
ON (i.e., when H1 ON is received) to send an H1 On command (you won't get
into an endless loop!)

thanks
The implimentation of the right click in the Control read flags though
is MUCH better (turning the whole line black) :)

On the point of HV only TXing X10 commands from a macro
and never acting upon them
Can I confirm then that if I'm using say Touchlinc
to fire a macro (say Study On) on say "H1 on",
I may also include in that macro the command "H1 force on"
so that if HV runs Study on macro the touchlinc mimics that it is On ??

Nearly confused myself with that question :)
but do you see what I'm getting at?
I have 3 Touchlincs round the house
purely firing Macros to the HV
and it would be usefull to always having them show the right condition
even if HV has executed the macro
thanks in advance

Mike,

The right mouse click doesn't work in the Actions Entry Screen. We will fix
this.

As for faster downloads, I'm not sure. In our testing here on other tasks
(like opening the View Schedule screen), the 32-bit version actually is
SLOWER than the 16-bit version!

This is the way we designed it. The "initiator" key (# in this case) resets
HV to start looking for another command. We did this so that if you make a
mistake when pressing keys, you could simply press # to start over.

HV only performs actions when it RECEIVES the X-10 signal, NOT when it
transmits it. Although HV does receive it's own transmission, this is just
for error checking, and won't trigger more actions.

Hi all,

1) I noticed that with the HV Phone/CID device, if I try to send HV a
command with begins with more than one '#' character, it seems to be
ignored. Is this the designed behavior, or am I not doing something
    correctly?

    For example:

       If
Received phone touch-tone sequence is '#1234'
       Then
         <This works as expected.>

    But,

       If
Received phone touch-tone sequence is '##123'
       Then
         <This branch is never executed.>

2) I'm trying to set up the HV to detect certain X10 commands, and use
that as a trigger to send other X10 commands. For example, the "A16
On" trigger is used to send "House Code A, All Lights On".

However, HV never seems to detect any of the X10 command
transmissions. Not even if HV itself transmits the "trigger"
commands. Is there some configuration variable or something that
needs to be set so that HV will "listen" for X10 commands and perform
    other operations?

Thanks in advance.

I ran out of space on OneList's file area already, I have to trim out all the
extra headers and resubmit the digest zips.

In the meantime, the 1997 archive is available at my personal homepage on
GeoCities: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Hills/2948/homevis_digests97.zip

After you download and install Misterhouse (v1.87) from
http://www.misterhouse.net
successfully, overlay these files to add Homevision support:
http://www.onelist.com/files/homevision-users/MH/update.zip

Check out code/idean/test_homevision.pl to see how to use some of the stuff.
The
other files in the code/idean directory are also there for you to peruse,
however,
they might not even "compile".
