To have a homebirth does it depend on your previously deliveries???
Do you have to go to the dr for check ups all the time?
Do midwives mind that the surrogate parents are present at the birth??
My surrogate is strong on her views about a hospital birth....
Could someone give my some ideas on this

Sorry Karen I thought I had joined you up ages ago, but had put in your
email addy wrong ...... sorry.

Could everyone please put in their intros again for Karen, and welcome her
to the group. We also have another new member but her name didn't pop up
next to the email addy ... so welcome to you too!!! I am glad you found
us!!! Welcome to the group. Just reply to an email from the group, and it
will come to all of us. We have only 10 members, but its growing.

Robbin has been designing a really nice web site for us, with photos, birth
stories and links to midwives (well Marie so far) but it would be nice to
have a few so people know who to contact depending on their area of NSW. Its
at http://www.50megs.com/homebirth/

Anyway, I am Nat
I have had 3 children, one born in hospital, she is 6, one in a birthing
centre, he is 3, and the last one at home in my bath, he is two.
I live in Farmborough Heights in Wollongong, and will be a teacher ... as
soon as I have my interview with the department. I can't wait!!

take care
Nat

Do they have breastmilk banks in Australia? They do here (USA) and although it
is a touch expensive, you would not have to give the baby formula... Just a
thought... Another is if a local breastfeeder might be willing to donate some
of her milk for just such a purpose...

And yes, back to homebirth... :)

Just in case anyone doesn't know how eGroups work, or to send a message,
just reply to one already sent and it will go to everyone in this group.
Your welcome message should have explained how to go to the home page (at
eGroups). It isn't very exciting yet, because we have been concentrating on
making our own fancy home page. The one they supply is good, but they are
standard for all the eGroups.

Janelle and Karen,
How did you go looking up the breasfeeding info? Hope you found somebody to
help.

Voni,
Thanks for all the info and sites!!!

Kylie,
Hope you studies are going well, let me know if you want me to pick up Luca.
Is my birth video in safe hands??? I can't wait to see it without all the
fuzzy bits!!!!

I was doing some research on breastfeeding for my mother (who is a certified
lactation consultant.) Here is some of the info I found. I will also ask her
what she has on the subject although mostly she deals with helping women in the
hospital directly after the birth and teaching breastfeeding classes.

http://www.monarch-design.com/baby/bfiq.html

Do you have to have a baby to breastfeed? It is commonly believed that lactation
only occurs
following conception an birth, but this not necessarily so. Certain species such
ans elephants and foxes lactate
and suckle young without ever giving birth. For humans, continued suckling over
a period of time is the only
requirement to stimulate milk production -- pregnancy is not necessary. Many
women who have breastfed can
begin again by simply initiating sucking (with either a baby or a pump). Women
who have never given birth, but
wish to breastfeed can do so by having their nipples sucked on frequently with
either a pump or a child nursing
with a Lact-Aid (a device that feeds formula through a small tube attached to
the nipple providing the infant with
calories and the mother with the sucking necessary to establish milk
production).

http://www.lalecheleague.org/

On the above page, go to the search this page feature and type
inducing;lactation It will return several articles.

Hope it helps...

my intro?

I'm actually in Ypsilanti, Michigan, USA, I have a 4 year old (hospital) and I
am due the 29th of January with this one... We're going for home birth.

Hi Janelle, glad you could join us. You already know me so I will do an
intro for the other new members.
I also would like info about breast feeding after a hyster. I have nothing
left either. I have been told that it can still be done because the hormone
is stimulated from the pituritary gland. I have been told that there are
natural things that you can get from the health food shop to help stimulate
milk production and I think that maybe a doctor can help with hormone
stimulation therapy as well.
I haven't done much research on this, but I do know it is possibe to
achieve. I'm glad about it to, I also am involved in a surrogacy and our
surrogate is pregnant at the moment and due in april next year.
I am hoping to breast feed out baby to help give him the best start in life
he can get.

My intro.......

Karen T.
live in Newcastle.
Have 4 kids from first marriage.
One on the way via surrogacy.
35yrs old. [going grey heheh]
looking for info on breast feeding after hyster.
very intersted in HB wished I knew about it when I gave birth.
Kids are Aliesha 13 1/2
Nathan 12
Twins courtney and Kaitlyn 10yrs.

Take care.

Janelle,

glad you made it in OK, you weren't joined, so I fixed you up ... sorry
about the moderation it shouldn't happen again.

So everyone, this is Janelle. Whatever questions your cousin has, or more
importantly that you have, because it seems she knows a lot ... please just
ask. Kylie has had two home births ... one breech and one 10lb 14oz, and she
is a nurse and doing midwifery now, Marie is a practicing independant
midwife. So hopefully we can help out with whatever you need to know.

And we also have another new member, Karen, who if I remember correctly is
very close to the big *pop*. Hope you are going well Karen.

tell the difference. I'm neither, but my husband is british, so I think I've
picked a bit up... :)

Robbins child and my last child were born 7 hours apart, a bit of a fluke.
Except hers has always been and always will be twice the size of my little
runt, hehe.

Hello, sorry, but I'm not actually even in Australia... It took me a little
while to realize where the group is located. I hope you won't mind if I tag
along anyway? :)

We're in Ypsilanti, Michigan, USA. I'm expecting my second child. About 4
months I think... (sorry, I'm bad with time... *g* That's why I wear a
watch.) My daughter, Erin, is 4. I had her in the hospital with a midwife in
attendance, and the experience was ok, right up until decisions were being made
without consulting me... I only found out later that I had pitocin, and it
wasn't until they had already called the surgeon that I was informed (by my
mother, who knows if anyone would have bothered telling me if she hadn't!) they
had decided to do a caesarean. Erin was born 3 minutes later, although it did
feel rather forced... :(

This time, we are having the baby at home. I have chosen a lay midwife, someone
I am very comfortable with... I feel like I've known her for years. We just
moved here from Florida(about 1500 miles) so it is unlikely anyone else we know
will be able to come, although I would really love my mum to be here.

Think that's enough for a simple intro, eh? :)

Hi all,
Sorry I am a bit slow, have just realised we have two new members who I need
to introduce.

Hi to Yvonne and Duncan, and also to Marie.

This is a very small group, because it is brand new. Robbin is working hard
on the web site
http://www.50megs.com/homebirth if you would like to check it out. We would
really like any pictures and birth stories you have to send to put on. So
far the only pics are of my home birth child, and one with Robbin where we
are both ready to pop. Also we are going to make a page for Marie, because
she is our favourite midwife.

Can you all please introduce yourself to the new people and make them feel
welcome.

Thanks
Nat

Forgot to mention ... let me know if you'd prefer a different name on the
web page Robbin is doing and egroups home page name. Egroups is Illawarra
Homebirth Online and the web page is Homebirth Online. Robbin found the
homebirth web ring and we are going to be in that, so that helps too.

Kylie,

Just wanted your opinion on the web site below. We have baby angels with

lotus symbol you have. There are nice ones like that with butterflies too.
Let me know the kind you will like and we'll try and put something

Hi all,

there are only four of us so I thought I'd introduce you.

Kylie is the girl who has run the homebirth support groups since way
before Cailem was born. Without her, nothing would be done, seriously.
So I have finally got off my slack bum and organised the email support
group version of the organisation. Kylie has 3 kids, two born at home.
She is the one I brag about all the time because she had a breech at
home (ouch) and a 10lb 14oz (I think) at home (double ouch), a legend
if you ask me.

Karen is my friend from the surrogacy group, and is positive about
homebirthing and the spirituality side of it.

Robbin is my darling friend who is at this second making a home page
for the group. So we can post our pictures and birth stories there. So
thank you very much for all your fiddling around just for us.

I am just me, you all know me. So welcome, and I can't wait to find
more people to get this grooving along.

love
Nat
