Oh dear friends, family and loved ones of Elunud,

This is so shocking and sad, akin to losing our beloved Maria Agnese last year at this time. I know we all join in expressing our deepest sorrow and condolences to the family, and to mourning the loss of a great peace leader for our struggling planet.

Thanks so much for your stirring words, Andrius...if you ever doubt the impact of Minciu Sodas and of yourself personally, hopefully this tribute from her daughter, Sarah, will put those feelings to rest.

With great sadness and lovingkindness, but also great joy at having such a marvelous spirit among us for a time, whose legacy will live forever!  Janet

It is with great sadness I announce to you that the founder of this group, Eluned Hurn, passed away on a visit to Sri Lanka in January. She was cremated in Sri Lanka and a memorial service held at her home village in Wales.

The following words appear at the end of the eulogy by her daughter Sarah, a fitting tribute:

I will end with a quote from Andrius Kulikauskas of a peace group she supported called ‘fighting peacefully’. These words from a stranger to me which appropriately enough I found on the internet sum up what she meant to people and the impact that she had.
Eluned, Thank you for your leadership and your deepest value of
"fighting peacefully" which you have pursued all of your life. I was
so delighted to learn your deepest value, I thought, Now we will have an
army! and a Warrior Queen! And your heart has given us a chamber to
nurture our love for our enemy. As I understand you, we have many
reasons to fight, but we must do it peacefully.

...it is in the synergy of individuals like Eluned and the many who have assembled to occupy our time along with Andrius,
to extend justice, peace and joy as close and as far as we could, that were born in my writings's signature

...may all blessing be with us all...

...Amen to God's Yes in us all...

...which Eluned is now positioned to reach us all with, deeper and further as we cultivate her memory to live on in us...

Dear Friends,

This is a very sad day, yet also a celebratory one...this is Maria Agnese's birthday. I received a "reminder" from Facebook, where she still has a page, and hopefully many of us will post here, there, and elsewhere in her honor and memory.

Today is also World Malaria Day, a poignant and wholly-fitting (if "eerie") conjunction, as I gather Maria Agnese passed away from malaria-related complications.

Malaria is one of the worst scourges and killers around the planet, so let's all take time if we can to educate and be active around this topic. Perhaps we can have a discussion in our forums and at Dadamac about that, especially in terms of being helpful in some kind of project or way.

With love to our dear friend, and to all, and blessings always, Janet

Ken Owino,

I appreciate your  efforts in peace building among the youth in slum areas. The documentary you have attached is  indeed a good example of how Kenyans from different communities should co-exist and live together in harmony. More of these activities by the acrobats should go to rural areas where we witnessed tribal tension during the 2007/2008 post-election violence. Cheers Ken for your great work.

Dear All,

It is very sad to remember Maria Agnese and sadly that she died of malaria complications. I have seen people here in Kenya die of malaria-related complications especially children and old people. There should be concerted efforts to create awareness on the importance of protecting oneself from contracting malaria. Currently I work in a place where malaria is prevalent as a disease. It is mainly caused by mosquito bites and every household needs a mosquito net for safety agianst mosquito bites. We can indeed remember Maria Agnese by waging an anti-malaria war in several forums starting from here. RIP Maria Agnese.

Dear Mike,

It is a pleasure to meet you here.
We did the project for a couple of Months before halting because of some personal challenges. The project involved more people than just me and Ricardo.
But offcourse, i would be more willing to share with you, hoping that you learn from some of our approaches, success and failures.
I have not been in contact with Ricardo for quite a while but i should consult him about this first.

Thanks Andrius for the connection.

Dear all,

We are writing the present mail to friends of Agnese (Maria) from outside Italy. On the 25th of April many friends living in Italy met in Santa Marinella for a commemoration day during which her ashes were spread in the sea.

First we met in the church together with Don Matteo and could express thoughts and prayers. Then Kenneth and Giuseppe (Agnese’s brother) went on a fisherman boat in the sea to spread her ashes while the other friends were on the seaside singing a song written by her colleagues from INRAN. We then had a farewell to Agnese through shouting. The four NAFSI acrobats who were with us (Samuel, Patrick, Kenneth and Steve) could then illustrate to us their project with children in Nairobi and then perform on a little square of Santa Marinella.

It took quite some time to put together the video and photos taken by different people and we had technical problems. That's why more than a month has already passed. However we hope that by watching this video you will at least in part manage to feel what we could feel during this great day in which we could give her last respect and especially express our love and our gratitude for all the gifts we received from her.

To watch the video:

Please send this mail to anyone who is not in the mailing list but would like to receive it.

This is not something that I have the competence to lead in any way. I am just providing a focal point where people might come together, in preparation.

@Andrius - I'm aware I have not included a reference to the Pyramid of Peace Archive. Please would you send me the link.

Pamela McLean,

Thank you for your intiative
http://www.dadamac.net/initiative/another-pyramid-peace
that we prepare and make sure that the March 2013 presidential elections
in Kenya are peaceful, without the violence that shocked us in 2008.

I expect that 2013 will be peaceful. Many Kenyans care about peace and
many have experience in peaceful intervention from 2008.

Pamela, I appreciate all the more your concern that we prepare now for
peace. We should not be complacent. I imagine others are preparing for
violence.

Pamela, I appreciate your leadership and I wish to encourage you. In
2008, I showed all the leadership I was able. I took and gave all the
authority I could.

Pamela, you value what we achieved together with the Pyramid of Peace.
I'm glad that you're considering what we might take from that.

In response to your initiative, I apply my authority as Commander-in-Chief
of the Pyramid of Peace, as follows:
* Upon your consideration and acceptance, I appoint you
Commander-of-Operations through July, August, September 2012, or as I
decree otherwise, that you might boldly lead all who wish for a Pyramid of
Peace, as we had in 2008.
* Please choose a title (such as Convener, etc.) as you like best.
* I look to you to engage Kenyans and all who care, what may we do for
peace in Kenya in 2013? to reach out and include peacemakers of all
tribes, to analyze the potential for violence, to consider promising
solutions, to discuss what structures for coordination are most relevant
for 2013, to appreciate which individuals and what organizations we can
turn to for leadership.
* Please keep us informed if you see any need, any role in 2013 for a
command structure to support independent peacemakers, as I led in 2008.
* In general, do we need new groups, organizations or institutions? and
should they be related in any way to the Pyramid of Peace of 2008?
* Please consult especially with Janet Feldman as to how we can help
Kenyans, especially in reaching out across divisions.
* Please consult with Denis Kimambo, Kennedy Owino, Rachel Wambui Kungu
and Lawrence Achami, our Commanders, as to what Pyramid of Peace and other
groups might achieve for peace in Kenya in 2013. I will consult with them
likewise.
* Please work publicly, as you do.
* I have redone our website http://www.pyramidofpeace.net to point to a
wiki http://www.pyramidofpeace.net/wiki/ for linking to relevant pages,
which may be at your website http://www.dadamac.net or as you think best.
Please know we can develop the website http://www.pyramidofpeace.net to
include a chat room and other functionality you think we'll need.

In this way, I offer you my authority that you might draw on it as much as
you like, if at all. In that you do, please know that I judge you
competent, and I expect that you absorb and project that, as you serve, so
that others might likewise. Embolden us!

I am very busy this July, August and September, and so I personally
appreciate your initiative. I will have some free time in October,
November and December. I may be completely free in the first half of 2013.
Thank you for valuing my participation!

Pamela, I think it's especially valuable at this time that you are based
in the UK, outside of Kenya. We're showing that ethnic violence is not a
local concern, but a global concern. You know and love people of many
tribes throughout Africa, and are not partial. That's a great help!

Pamela, thank you!

Andrius, Filip and everyone.

@ Andrius - I appreciate your email, but I do not see myself in a leadership role. I have simply raised the question of if we should be looking ahead - and it seems that it would be a good idea.

@ Filip - thank you for you facebook idea

@ everyone - I am a learner and also a teacher - and one of the things I am learning about how is the Internet can help us to learn, and how it affects the roles of teachers and learners. (In my own DIY e-learning I find that I learn best in collaboration with others - and that we often learn from each other - all of us acting partly as teachers and partly as learners as we share our different perspectives).

Learning from last time

In the case of the upcoming elections I am wondering what we can learn from last time. We have enormous shared experience of the post election turmoil - from many different perspectives. We have an amazing rich archive of what happened. We can use that archive to remind ourselves. Newcomers can also dip into it in as much or as little depth as they choose to find out what happened.

We need to build our community, and we need to find the best ways to share information.

The chat room was enormously useful last time, and the various relevant yahoo groups of Minciu Sodas. People were using computers from home and also at cyber cafes. Phones of course were key to the success of Pyramid of Peace. MamaMikes and paypal were important for sending money.  Some things have changed since 2007/8. We need to find out what is most effective for people and where we will want to be "meeting"

It will also be helpful if we can develop ways of working together that are based on shared expectations and understanding. However we are working at a distance and people come with differing expectations and from different cultural backgrounds. We should not be surprised if different people see things in different ways. We have to build trust and be ready to accept that at times there will be mismatched assumptions and there will be some confusion because of different assumptions. The important thing is to take such happenings as learning experiences, and to build on our alignment and shared aims rather than dwell on our differences.

"Initiatives" space at Dadamac.net

I have made the space at dadamac for Another Pyramid of Peace  so that we have a starting place for what we are doing and learning from last time.  Let us all rub minds and see what lessons we can learn and what those lessons will enable us to do in terms of preparations for peacekeeping and  conflict  resolution should it become necessary.

Chatroom

@Andrius, you have said the chatroom could be set up again. I understood that it was closed because it was too costly. Please clarify what resources will be needed to open it again.

Wiki

Thank you also Andrius for setting up a wiki. Perhaps we should find out who is happy to use a wiki, and who would like to learn, and who is happy to teach others. I think wikis can be a great place to park information, and certainly the previous one proved very useful - but I confess there are also some aspects of of wikis that I don't like (including the amount of work they take).  However that is a discussion for another time.

Facebook

@Filip are you active on Facebook? I think it is a good idea, but, personally I do not want to be responsible for setting it up and feeding it with information. Who is active on FaceBook? How shall we go forward with this?

Yahoo groups

At present we are doing a lot of cross posting. I wonder if it might be a good idea to set up a yahoo group which is dedicated to PyramidOfPeace - and gradually we could move all of the discussion over there. What do people think of that idea?

Pamela McLean,

Thank you for your reply. You don't see yourself in a leadership role.
Nevertheless, I do value your concern and strategic thinking.

Yes, at http://www.pyramidofpeace.net we do have an archive of our amazing
work together for peace in Kenya, which was public. Some of the links
aren't working, though. In December I expect to return to Lithuania and I
could fix things up and also collect my own reflections from then and
afterwards. Perhaps we could publish an e-book to tell our stories and
share our lessons.

Pamela, I could set up a chat room at some point. Best for me would be to
wait until December when I am back in Lithuania. I'm currently working
intensely on my art work "God's Face and God's Mind" which will hang in
the historic Pullman factory. I've also been hired as a consultant to
help write research papers in tobacco control. I have to finish the
latter work before I return to Lithuania. Pamela, for Dadamac I could
work for $10 per hour and set up a chat room for you. It may take up to
10 hours to set up and customize, but possibly 5 or so. Alternatively, at
some point I might do it for free at pyramidofpeace.net if there is a
clear need.

I share my correspondence (through Facebook) with Kennedy Owino. He's a
member of Nafsi Africa Acrobats and currently lives in Denmark.

as a command structure, continue as Commander-in-Chief and appoint her as

preparations and explore what's most relevant for 2013, which might be
developing entirely new groups, structures, as she and others prefer, but
I would keep Pyramid of Peace ready to act as in 2008. What do you think?

Kennedy Nielsen Owino:

Dear Andrius,

I hope you are doing good
It would be great if we can catch up and talk over the phone, but Skype
would be o.k and cheaper.
Anyway, my phone number is +4553140074 and skype address is
nafsiafrikaacrobats.
I am busy these days with work but you can catch me any time after 5 pm
Danish time.
When and what time do you prefer?

It is an impressive idea to organise ourselves in preparation of
combating any violent eventuality that could follow the upcoming Kenya
General elections.
I support your idea of approaching this through the Pyramid of Peace
initiative.
However, i am not aware if the structure we used in 2008 would be
reliable or appropriate this time.
I am saying this because it is long since i was back in Kenya.
I do not have first hand comprehension of the realities at the grassroots.
Have there been a shift in cultures and ways of thinking? Is there
hostility breeding underneath waiting to explode? Are certain tribes/
ethnic groups, proscribed and militia groups regrouping and preparing for
revenge and/ or another wave of attacks?
Is there harmony amongst neighbouring tribes which would be seen even
after the elections? What are the contesting politicians messages to
their tribes?
These are questions i may need to ask myself, or explore the answers
before giving you my views.
It would be great to contact the likes of Denis Kimambo, Rachel Wangui,
Achami etc to get their opinions.
I believe they have an upper hand in knowing exactly how the situation
stands at the ground.

There are many initiatives already in force crusading and advocating for
Peace and sensitizing Kenyans on Peaceful attitudes during the elections
period.
We just have to be sensitive on our approaches through the Pyramid of Peace.
Since people are still in the healing process, some are still hurting, we
still have the internally displaced people in the camps and this period
reminds many of the bloodshed, toture, pain and humiliation they
underwent.
One wrong wording or action that is not sensitive to the needs and
emotions of the people may diffuse or be mis- interpreted as hate speech,
insightment or a provocation to Violence.

  Peace,

  Ken Owino

Dear Pamela,

The way you have responded, first to the need, and then to the resources offered, exemplifies a very valuable form of leadership -- we-focused, peer-oriented, stepping up to offer what you know and looking at the whole picture, from the points of view of those affected, and actively asking people to contribute what they know and sense. As we all know, that kind of leadership is all too rare.

Someone might have once told you angrily, "what makes you think you're so smart?", and the sting of that might have caused you to build very slowly and methodically -- but you have learned well, and you do have the knack!

You might consider a motto I used to keep going through non-acceptance: Trust yourself!

Good day, I hope this email finds you well. I wish to share with you one of my most recent event - MAKE MAMA VISIBLE, an honorary walk race to bring aging mothers in the rural villages of Cameroon to the spotlight as athletes and entertainers - while highlighting the value of motherhood.

On Sunday, August 26th, for the first time in the history of Cameroon, women age 75 and above shall take part in a Fast Walk Race in Bafanji village, Northwest Region of Cameroon.

The idea of this public walk is to create space for aged mama to become visible; change the sport dynamics allowing possibilities for age people to entertain the young and vice-versa and as well as to make age mothers living in the rural regions to feel honored, valued, and confident and not to think their age as a barrier to be happy.

How you can help to bring Visibility to this Event:

1) Share all MMV mgs online/offline through your local/global network space

2) write about MMV in your journal, newspaper, magazine...

3) report/ broadcast about MMV in audio/video on your radio/Tv channels

4) be there on August 26th to have a Live coverage of the event; and capture participants story for change.

we need your Help in Bringing Visibility to this Event!!!!!

Thanks.

This is not something that I have the competence to lead in any way. I am just providing a focal point where people might come together, in preparation.

@Andrius - I'm aware I have not included a reference to the Pyramid of Peace Archive. Please would you send me the link.

Dear friends,

We have four days to stop a top-secret global corporate power grab that attacks everything from a free Internet to environmental protections. This agreement is being negotiated right now by bureaucrats backed by corporate lobbyists. Click below to crash their secret meeting with our global call to kill the TPP deal:
Sign the petition
Details are leaking of a top-secret, global corporate power grab of breathtaking scope -- attacking everything from a free Internet to health and environmental regulations, and we have just 4 days to stop it. Big business has a new plan to fatten their pockets: a giant global pact, with an international tribunal to enforce it, that is kept top secret for years (even from our lawmakers!) and then brought down like a Death Star on our democracies. Big Tobacco, Big Oil, Big Pharma, Walmart and almost 600 other corporate lobbyists are all in on the draft -- including limits on smoking laws, affordable medicines and free speech on the Net.The latest round of negotiations ends in just 4 days -- but outcries in each of our countries could shake the confidence of negotiators and scuttle the talks forever. Let's get to a million against the global corporate takeover. Sign below and forward widely. Avaaz will project our petition counter on the walls of the conference so negotiators can see the opposition to their plan exploding in real time:http://www.avaaz.org/en/stop_the_corporate_death_star/?bjNCpdb&v=17850 The deal, called the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), is written to protect investors from government regulation, even if that regulation is passed in the public interest. Leaked versions suggest the TPP would undermine protections for air and water safety and reintroduce measures from the US Internet freedom attack as well as steamrolling efforts to produce generic affordable medicines. Worse still, lawmakers who fail to conform to the TPP’s rules face sanctions in an international tribunal -- a place where corporations can sue us for deals previous governments signed in secret! Negotiators say this is just a trade agreement, written to facilitate investment and profit for all. But the leaked draft imposes so many limits on citizen protections, it's clear this "trade" agreement is skewed to put corporate profit above people's needs -- that's not surprising since it's been drafted in secret with almost 600 corporate lobbyists. But there is hope: Australia is bucking against the international tribunal system, and New Zealand is objecting to the takeover of its medicine-pricing protections that keep drugs affordable. Massive public opposition, casting doubt over each country's ability to sell TPP at home, could derail the talks for good. Sign the petition now, and forward widely -- the delegates and lobbyists are watching the wave of opposition grow in real time:http://www.avaaz.org/en/stop_the_corporate_death_star/?bjNCpdb&v=17850 US Senator, Elizabeth Warren in a recent speech said: “Corporations are not people. People have hearts, they have kids, they get jobs, they get sick, they cry, they dance. They live, they love, and they die. And that matters, because we don't run this country for corporations, we run it for people." Let’s reach one million to stop the corporate takeover of our governments. Dearest Friends,

It has been some time since I have truly been "acting alive" here, and I have
been meaning to post an explanation. I have been thinking about the way forward,
at a time for me when my own life has fallen apart and I have been trying to
rebuild it. I will follow up on that at another time, but for now wanted to
share some terribly devastating news I have just received today.

Our cherished friend of the arts and of peace in Kenya, Dennis Kimambo, has
passed away. He has been missing for some days, and it has just been confirmed
that he is dead. In fact, there was a crime scene, so there has been some
heinous act committed by someone else, though the motive remains unclear at this
point, at least to me. Dennis survived the upheavals and almost civil-warlike
conditions of the Kenyan elections of 2007-2008....it would be such an
unthinkable blow to know he did not survive the generally peaceful elections of
2013, due to his work for peace.

I meant Dennis only once, when he came to visit the USA, but we kept in regular
touch via email and phone, and I consider him one of my closest friends. His
work in the arts related to health and development, on youth issues, and on
peace in Kenya and the world touched so many people, and made the planet a much
better and more hopeful place to live.

He will continue to be loved and cherished always, and his legacy will be alive
and well through eternity. He inspired all of us and left a lasting mark that
nothing can change or erase.

This is what I just posted to Facebook:

"I am beyond devastated...this is one of the saddest days of my life, and my
world will never be the same. Rest in peace, dear friend Dennis, and know that
you will be loved and cherished for all eternity. I have talked today to the
museum where my Haitian art collection is now based and they are doing an
exhibit on Kenya...we spoke before hearing this news, but they had already
agreed to do a tribute to Dennis and his work on the arts. So that is some
uplifting news, though I would rather have the beautiful soul himself here with
us for many years to come. He did make an enduring and lasting impact that will
always be alive and well, and that is a wonderful legacy to leave for all those
who grieve, and for a world that badly needed his love and care."

I hope we will all share our thoughts and feelings about Dennis here, and that
his family will be in our prayers. Any actions we can take to pay tribute to him
would be most welcome, including helping the family he leaves behind.

With love and greatest sorrow, Janet

I read today on Facebook that Dennis Kimambo, so wonderfully active in
our Pyramid of Peace, http://www.pyramidofpeace.net, and a creative
force in Kenya's community theatre, REPACTED, has been killed. It is a
great loss.

This tragedy is greatly unexpected. But I wish all of our participants
in Kenya to be alert to any signs for concern. I know of intimidation
against former participants this year which seems related to the recent
elections and the victory of the current President Uhuru Kenyatta (a
Kikuyu) and Vice President William Ruto (a Kalenjin), who have been both
charged by the International Criminal Court.

It was clear to me then, as I wrote publicly then, and discussed with
Dennis and others as well, that the violence was not fueled only by
anger or revenge, but was being consciously instigated by political
thugs, both Kikuyu and Kalenjin, even in collaboration, as if they were
seeking a genocide that would alter Kenya in their favor.

I don't know of the situation in Kenya nowadays. But please, if you
live in Kenya, be mindful and stay in touch with those you knew then,
and us, too.

I was always so grateful to God that we all survived that time of great
violence even as we risked our lives and those of our friends. It was
important that we worked publicly and with open hearts. I encourage us
to continue in that way, taking many small risks, so we can help each
other, rather than large risks.

It is mean that Dennis has been killed.

I am sad to learn that Dennis was killed, if I understand correctly. We
never met in person, but we worked together as two of the leaders of the
Pyramid of Peace to avert genocide in Kenya after the 2008 elections.
You can read our interactions online at http://www.pyramidofpeace.net He
was truly a great man, in character, deeds, creativity and love for all
people. I don't know any details of his death, and it may simply be a
crime, but he is a person who was central in appreciating in 2008 that
there were people, I think both Kikuyu and Kalenjin, instigating
genocide, (much as in Rwanda), and his bold, creative, loving leadership
was a key to their failure. He is a key person whose death could have
been politically motivated, for example, to keep him from testifying at
an international tribunal. I don't know the situation in Kenya since
then, and I hoped it was better, but I say this to inform those who
might not know. In any event, his loss is great for himself and his
family, but also for Kenya and the world.

He did make an enduring and lasting impact that will always be alive and well, and that is a wonderful legacy to leave for all those who grieve, and for a world that badly needed his love and care."

I hope we will all share our thoughts and feelings about Dennis here, and that his family will be in our prayers. Any actions we can take to pay tribute to him would be most welcome, including helping the family he leaves behind.

With love and greatest sorrow, Janet

Janet,

I look forward to a tribute of Dennis's artistic activities. I don't
know much about that, but he and his friends at REPACTED community
theatre inspired me. I've been taking lessons in improvisational acting
at Chicago's Annoyance Theatre, and I'm hoping to develop "community
theatre" here in the Black-American Englewood neighborhood of Chicago,
where I'm spending summers, and in the village of Eiciunai in Lithuania,
where I'll be in the winters.

I'm wondering what we could do in the long run to care for his children,
one young daughter and one child yet unborn. I hope to stay in touch
with his family and friends.

Andrius

been meaning to post an explanation. I have been thinking about the way forward,
at a time for me when my own life has fallen apart and I have been trying to
rebuild it. I will follow up on that at another time, but for now wanted to
share some terribly devastating news I have just received today.

passed away.

His work in the arts related to health and development, on youth issues, and on
peace in Kenya and the world touched so many people, and made the planet a much
better and more hopeful place to live.

Could Dennis's passing away help us all to realize how much DEATH is an actual, intelligent, living power???

Dear Friends,

I am sending a tribute I wrote to and for Dennis, published this morning by Rising Voices.

http://rising.globalvoicesonline.org/blog/2013/05/03/remembering-dennis-kimambo/

Below is info about fundraising and his funeral. I am trying to get more info on exactly how and who to send funds to...his brother can be reached at the number below, and his wife, Faith Muriuki, can be reached here: https://www.facebook.com/kimambo?ref=ts&fref=ts#!/njokimuriuki?fref=ts. I will get the time of the funeral next week too.

"Kindly be informed that there will be a fundraising on Sunday at 3.00 p.m at his parents' place, in the medical quarters behind KMTC, all are welcomed and for those who will not make it to the fundraising, you can send your financial support to his brother Silas 0729566677. Thank you for your support."

Dennis Kimambo will be laid to rest next week 7th may Tuesday at Nakuru North Cemetery.

Greatest thanks to all who have posted with sympathies and caring, and I will hope to respond to each of you soon.

With love and appreciation, Janet
