Hi: Just us at Knitting Today for the beginning of the Sideways Sock
Knitalong using the Sock Options pattern book. Chat will be conducted
through our Forums. Register your interest at:

http://wb8.knittingtoday.com/default.asp?
action=9&boardid=2&read=1092&fid=6

You'll probably have to cut and paste the URL after the ? if the line
breaks. At the chat on July 21, we'll be talking about yarn choices,
gauge, and measuring. The sock itself takes about 5 minutes to knit
and the seaming up takes about 2 hours :-) . . .

Hope you can join us. . . Lea-Ann

P.S. I'm posting this on the yahoo knitalong group as a special notice
to alert everyone to this upcoming knitalong. Discussion will take
place in the Forums at Knitting Today not in yahoo.

Hi, Gloria,

I haven't done lace in a while, but I remember that the lace carriage always
moved an even number of times (2, 4, 6, etc.), starting on the left and
ending on the left. I also remember that after the last right-to-left
movement, the needles were all lined up exactly the same way (I think in "B"
or working position). If there are needles selected to different
positions, then you're not done and need to keep moving the lace carriage.

There is a more accurate way of knowing when it's time to move the knit
carriage, but I don't remember exactly how it works. It has to do with the
marking on the mylar sheet, maybe there are extra dots on the rows where you
move the knit carriage??? Something like that.............

If this doesn't help you figure it out I'll see if I can find a better
explanation somewhere.

I don't usually forward things but this is very important.
Even if you can't afford to contribute financially to this important

Mastectomy Hospital Bill in Congress

A mastectomy is when a woman's breast is removed in order to remove
cancerous breast cells/tissue. If you know anyone who has had a
mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain
afterwards. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an
outpatient procedure.
Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for
2 days after surgery.

There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which
will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital
stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating
the drive-through mastectomy' where women are forced to go home just
a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still
groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still
attached.

Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page with a
petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House
signed on.

PLEASE!! Sign the petition by clicking on the web site below. You
need not give more than your name and zip code number.

http://www.lifetimetv.com/breastcancer/petition/signpetition.php

This takes about 2 seconds. PLEASE PASS THIS ON to your friends and
family, and on behalf of all women, THANKS.

Hello,
I know this is off topic, but I could use some help for a good cause.
I and walking in the Avon walk for breast cancer and need to raise
some more funds for my donation. Please help if you can ever little
bit helps. This is such an important cause to me because this year, an
estimated 40,000 women will die from the disease. Breast cancer takes
another life every 14 minutes. Another woman is diagnosed with breast
cancer every 3 minutes. An estimated three million women are living
with breast cancer. One million of them don't yet know it.

As part of the event, I pledged to raise money. People can make
donations on my behalf, so that I can reach my fundraising goal. With
the donations raised, the Avon Foundation will provide support and
resources for women affected by this terrible disease. This will help
so many people in our own community and throughout the country. Any
amount you can give is great; I just appreciate your support.

It is faster and easier than ever to support this great cause - you
can make a donation online by simply clicking on the link at the
bottom of this message. Whatever you can give will help! I truly
appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.

Thank you for supporting me always, but especially in this challenge;
you really do make a difference.

Please forward this e-mail to as many people as possible.
Thanks,
Gina

The Central Michigan Yarnies will meet Friday, May 11 at the Veteran's
Memorial Library in Mt. Pleasant. We may be in the meeting room near
the front entrance doors, or we may be in the annex (which is the old
Post Office). We usually meet from 10 a.m. to noon.

Bring your knitting, crocheting, plastic canvas, latch hook rug
projects or any other yarn/thread craft and join us!

I will be there making a new hat for charity. I finished the blue and
purple one last week.

Hi,

I am lazy, I will just plain ol' admit it. I don't want to do math to
convert a toddler sweater written for standard machine to mid gauge.

Does anybody have a free pattern for toddler size 4 for the mid gauge
machine?

I have looked all over the world thru the internet and haven't found
one for free.

I am working on converting a hand knitted pattern to knitting machine
and I don't like doing that for my first sweater.

So thanks, if you can help.

Hi Jess -

If you can get hold of a Brother 395 carriage, it will do intarsia for
you on the 350! The 395 is their convertible carriage, and it will
work on the 350 to do intarsia. I was able to pick up a used one for
my 350 because I am an intarsia NUT and couldn't imagine not being
able to do intarsia on the 350, or having to do intarsia by hand.

Hope this helps,

Jill :)

(I know - lofty expectations!) My question is, can you do intarsia on
a brother hobby machine, the 350? I don't recall seeing an intarsia
carriage ever listed and don't see anything on the knitting carriage.
I also use an LK 150 with the carriage, but actually like the brother
better. thank you Jess

Hi,

Funny, I just asked the question at two other sites on Yahoo!.

What kind of Intarsia do you want to do? Two color would be easy to
do.

What I have been able to glean from the posts, is: pull the needles
that will be needing color change into "D" position. Put the carriage
in "P". Run the carriage down the needles. Then the needles you
have "P" you will hand knit on the machine. I guess you're suppose to
always change the colors on the same side. And you will need to figure
out how to twist the two colors together so you will not be developing
holes as you go along. Someone also suggested using bobbins for the
individual colors, placing them at your feet on the floor.

I tried to do this with a picture in a graph that I wanted to put on a
sweater front. I started on the lower right hand side and the picture
was coming out backwards. So I pulled it off the machine, but it
seemed like it was working. I had holes, but it was only a swatch. I
am going to try it again soon. I've been busy this week with other
stuff so can't sit at the KM too much right now.

If you have a owner's manual, read about how to do the "Multi-Color
Skip Stitch Pattern". It will explain the "D" needle position and "P"
on the carriage.

If you have a machine you haven't used for a while don't be surprised if it
needs a new sponge bar to knit properly. The sponge naturally breaks down over
time and will no longer hold the needles in proper alignment. It may or may not
knit...and can lead to much frustration if you don't realize what the problem
is. You can get replacement sponge bars/sponge and there are also directions
online for replacing the sponge with weather stripping (use low density) if
you'd like to try that. I remove my sponge bar when not using my machines to
help prolong the life of the sponge. Arlene in TX <><

Sometimes I think my guardian angel is just as fiber-friendly as me. Late
Tues. night I was looking at the case my Bond was in (Hurricane Juan took my
roof and flooded the upstairs and ruined the Bond ISM box), and noticed I have
no original Bond video, nor instruction manual, but did find the project sheet I
mentioned earlier.

I also found my intarsia keyplate. Read the directions and understand them
even less. I know I have an extension bed 'somewhere', as I have the short
weighted hem. Lots of good times ahead!

I also have the Singer LK-100. I think I will master the Bond first.

Sometimes I think my guardian angel is just as fiber-friendly as me. Late Tues.
night I was looking at the case my Bond was in (Hurricane Juan took my roof and
flooded the upstairs and ruined the Bond ISM box), and noticed I have no
original Bond video, nor instruction manual, but did find the project sheet I
mentioned earlier.

I also found my intarsia keyplate. Read the directions and understand them
even less. I know I have an extension bed 'somewhere', as I have the short
weighted hem. Lots of good times ahead!

I also have the Singer LK-100. I think I will master the Bond first.

   Vee

Hello. I am a new Bond knitter. I bought the three Cheryl Brunette videos
(never rec'd the project sheet for the Your First Sweater video) and a fully
loaded ISM in the late 90s but never used it. Last week I bought the upgrade
and tension mast. I lost my manual so bought a pdf on ebay. The portability of
the Bond really pleases me, as does the infinite possibilities I have seen on
various Bond sites such as Steph's and Heidi's.

The stash of yarn I have is embarrassing as I have been buying for about 10
years in hope that I would learn how to use my Bond. DH wants to renovate and
says I must either use the yarn or lose it.

Does anyone know of the pattern directions to make a carrying case for the
Bond out of crib bumper pads? Thank you. p.s. does anyone know where I could
find the project sheet for the sweater for the Your First Sweater video? Many
thanks, Virginia

Thank you - I guess it was the comma. I'll pass the good news to a couple of
other newbies.

This group has moved to http://wb8.knittingtoday.com
Machine Knitting knitalongs

I think the "comma" at the end of the URL in mesg 1527 is probably
why you couldn't access the web site.
