Reparations for Blacks, a ‘mission of
God’
The
Reverend Jim Wallis has called racism America’s greatest sin before God. That
sin is exacerbated by the fact that America has never repented for the sin she
committed against hundreds of millions of Africans in chattel slavery.
“To admit to that sin, to confess that mistake and to apologize for a wrong for
which there is no justification is not something that anyone with a racist mind
would ever consider as a possibility,” says The Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright,
Jr., Senior Pastor, Trinity United Church of Christ, of Chicago.
Rev.
Jeremiah Wright, pastor of presidential candidate, Barak Obama, will be the
keynote speaker at the 20th Anniversary Gala of the National
Conference of Blacks for Reparations in America (N ‘COBRA) on Thursday, June 21
2007, 7:00PM at 3801 Market Street.
“The biblical principle of true repentance is that the offended party is given
compensation to make up for that which has been stolen from them, the losses
they have been inflicted upon them and their families,” said Rev. Wright in a
written statement to N’COBRA.
Rev.
Wright said that America understands this principle in a crystal-clear fashion
when it comes to Jews who went through a Holocaust which cost the lives of six
million persons because of the hatred of Hitler. “America understands
that principle and has acted on it when it comes to the reparations paid to
Japanese families whose parents, grandparents and extended family members were
thrown into interment camps during World War II after the Japanese Air Force
bombed Pearl Harbor.”
Wall
Street was built on the backs of Black Africans. The nation’s capitol was
literally built by the hands of Black Africans whose feet were in bondage and
shackles. This country is only able to enjoy its prestigious position of
prominence in the world today because it stands on the backs of Africans who
were enslaved from the 1600’s through the late 1800’s. Africans, please
remember, Rev. Wright said, “Africans were defined as property in the
constituting documents of this country. They were not even worthy of
being considered full human beings.”
There
will be a great turn-out for Dr. Wright and his message during the Gala at 3801
Market Street. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased on line at www.ncobraphiladelphia.net or
call 267-307-0001. N’COBRA is encouraging religious leaders to purchase tables
in support of Dr. Wright and his position on Reparations, said Minister
Merretazon, Northeast Regional Representative who is the contact for the
conference and gala.
“To
admit that sin, to confess that mistake and to apologize for a wrong for which
there is no justification is not something that anyone with a racist mind would
ever consider as a possibility. It is for that reason that reparations
are not even discussed in this country by those who have the power to make a
difference in the lives of the descendents of the very ones who built this
country,” is how Rev. Wright ended his statement to N’COBRA.
