NOTE: The original historicalresearch group disappeared in the first half of 2008. I queried the former group owner in May, but got no response. I queried our hosts, but got no useful response. I missed the group and knew a couple of other members did, too, so finally decided to create this group to replace it. The system would not allow me to reuse the exact original name. Here's hoping we all find our way back, even though the archives are gone forever....

Although intended primarily for writers, this group is open to anyone interested in sharing research tips and resource information, or in asking and answering history-related questions.

If asking a question, please be as specific as possible in the phrasing. For example, "My characters are Scandinavian farmers living on the northern U.S. plains in the late 19th century. What would their diet have been?" is better than "What did people eat in the 19th century?"
