This group is devoted to those educators and their supporters committed to models of education based on "lighting a fire" rather than "filling a pail." It is our belief that many of the pathologies of our society are caused or exacerbated by the damage experienced by many young people in conventional K-12 education, and that it is important to provide far healthier and more positive options for the significant percentage of our young people who do not thrive in conventional educational settings. We also believe that in order for more positive educational options to thrive, these schools need equal access to the government funding currently being used to support conventional education. This access most likely implies some species of school choice, including policy options such as less regulated (and therefore more liberated) charter schools, educational vouchers, or educational tax credits.
