http://www.kosharehistory.org/calendar/wintershows.html

For over fifty years the Koshare Winter Ceremonials have become a unique local Christmas tradition for Southeast Colorado. Join the annual celebration with a night of interpretive Native American dances from the Pueblos of the Southwest.

Museum admission is included in show ticket, so come early to tour our exhibits, shop in our trading post, or enjoy the atmosphere in the Koshare Kiva. No reserved seating is available and the purchase of a ticket does not guarantee a seat. We highly recommend arriving at least thirty minutes before a show starts. Photography and video recordings are only allowed after our performances are over.

Subject: Spring Soccer and TAAC friday art classes
tamsinclark...

Hello Mommas,

Here is some information about Spring Soccer and upcomming friday art classes:

AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) is having registration at the
Community Center next Saturday the 15th from 9am to 12noon and Tuesday the 18th
from 5-7pm. Soccer camp is available to 4 1/2 to 5 year olds and team Soccer is
avaible to those 6-17 years. Registration is $55.00 per child. If you become a
volunteer coach, asst. coach or referee you will recieve an end of the season
reimbursement of $5-$10. You must provide your own soccer shoes, socks and shin
guards. I asked what the practice and game committment was and was told 1
practice a week (maybe 2 depending on the coach but, most likely one) and 1 game
a week. Parents will be notified in March about what team their child is on an
which coach they will have. Team practice and game schedules will be availble
then too.

Next, I picked up a flyer at soccer registraion about the Trinidad Area Arts
Council starting friday arts classes. The flyer gives very limited information
so it would be best to call to get details. First, Clay Class for 12 year old
and up begin next friday, January 14th 10am to 12noon. I have no idea how many
weeks this class runs or if they are requiring a registration fee or not.
Registration is on the first day of class or you can call for early
registration. Arlys Krim 719-214-1909 or Trish Keck 719-859-7702. I recommend
calling to register as the flyer says space is limited to 12 students! Second,
"Other Art Classes will begin February 4th with Classes and Times TBA." The
flyer also says the local newspapers and KCRT will have more information the
last week in January. Looks like the Trinidad Area Arts Council will be getting
a lot of phone calls for more detailed information (age ranges, classes, times,
class length, limited space, fees if any, etc...).

Hope all this helps. Have a great week everyone! :) Tamsin

Allyciea is in Daisy Girl Scouts, I printed off a Daisy Girl Scout Paper Doll
for the troup. While looking up Paper Dolls on the computer I found a site for
American Girl paper dolls for Nellie, Samantha and Felicity to print off since
Allyciea is studying the 13 Colonies in her school work I printed off Felicity,
too make her homework more fun. Recently Allyciea's teacher also had Allyciea
paint the World map on a poster board and make a Mayflower Ship out of an
eggcarton to show the Pilgrims sailing from England into Plymouth Bay.

You can contact Gayleen Vigil at 680-0223 to see if she has space for more
Daisies or Brownies. Allyciea really enjoys going to Daisy Girl Scouts. They
meet at 5:00pM. ON Monday evenings.
Allyciea is selling Girl Scout cookies if anyone once to order. My number is
719-846-7343. Rolonda

I was talking with my sister a few months ago, She said my niece whose 13 yrs.
was having trouble in school because the girls made fun of the way she put her
eyeliner on, the style I guess at that school is cat eyes with your eyeliner and
they made fun of her walmart clothes. my daughter whose 26 yrs told my niece,
once those kids graduate from high school the mall clothes, latest cell phone,
cheerleaders, won't be something to have to deal with. The peer pressure will be
gone, know one is going to look at each other on what their wearing, they will
be thinking now I got bills, this job I need to go to, classes in the evening at
the community college. When my daughter went to Thornton High School ( she
graduated in 2002 from high school) she'd go to proms of other high schools,
this was Horizon High School in new part of Thornton. Everyone at Horizon had a
cell phone, but the Thornton high kids didn't have cell phones since it was the
older part of Thornton. Yet today she is friends with kids from Horizon High
School and Thornton High where she graduated. Rolonda

Peer pressure it probably the biggest reason that we are homeschooling. Times
have changed somewhat for me, because I did even know how to wear eyeliner at 13
much less even be allowed to wear it, but middle school was the hardest for me.
I also went to a very rich school in the big master plan community (only 1 black
girl our of 3000 kids) and we lived in regular ordinary tract housing. My
friends had Jordac jeans, real polos, and rabbit fur coats, and all had cars by
16. My clothes came from Weiners (Foley's basement, like TJ Max or Ross, I
think.) My first car was a vw bug for a thousand bucks when I was junior in
COLLEGE that I bought. We werent' poor, but mom was frugal. I cracked up my
moms car when I was 18 and they bought another used car- CASH. Anyway, my point
is that I always resolved that I did not want my kids to have to feel the burden
of trying to impress the rich kids. I firmly believe in uniforms, for just that
reason. Not silly blackwatch plaid pleated skirts, just kacki and golf shirts.
Katherine loves to look pretty, but she fortunately isn't into "fashion" and
doesn't mind resale or mommy sewing her clothes. Johnny is seriously
anti-swoosh, what he calls clothes with the nike swoosh emblem, etc. I am
resolved to avoid "fashionista" with my kids, oh yea, and no eyeliner!!

Joni,
The flyer does not post as an attachment, you have to put it up in the file
section.
Where is the class going to be held?
We would LOVE to take this class, however, that is a really bad time for us, as
it really cuts into family dinner time. If enough other people would like to
shift it earlier, we would be game. In fact, now that storytime has been changed
to Saturdays at 10:30, noon would be a great time for a sign language class, for
us.

AND......I was thinking it would be neat to have an end of the year homeschool
celebration. I was thinking we could invite family, friends and open it up to
people interested in homeschooling. Each family could display some of the kids
exceptional work or projects, children could also present something like a
recitation or a song and we could have an award (each family could print out a
special award for each child) ceremony.

I know most of us don't follow a traditional school schedule but I was thinking
an "end of the year" May date might be nice and give us plenty of time to plan.
We could have it at the community center or we could incorporate a field trip
and have it at the mining museum in Cokedale if we wanted to do some kind of
refreshments there is a full kitchen available.

I was just trying to think of a way to honor and reward our children efforts and
give the extended family something special to be part of. Let me know what you
all think. If everyone likes the idea we can start setting dates and planing :)

At the risk of showing my computer illiteracy, I am NOT sending a link to this You Tube video because I don't know how to do it.  I thought I did, but it's not working.  (My computer hasn't been working properly, so maybe it has more to do with it than with my know-how.)

Anyway, if you haven't seen this yet, it is funny.  It is called How Do You Socialize Your Children and is by HomeschoolAdvantage.

Here is what is in my web address box:   www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjOXT_KSFhA.  It was not cut and paste, but retyped.

If that doesn't work, just type in the title and/or the creator name of the video.

It worked. I cut and pasted it in.
It was long, but I guess that was the point, you can go on an on, and are never
going to convince some people that this is the right choice for your family.
Paula, yes, that is how you post a link here, you just cut and paste it into the
text. You can't attach an attachment to a post.
BTW, there are several other homeschool things on you-tube.

I got this in the mail on a postcard. Allyciea is in the Cloverbud 4-H group
that meets the 3rd Sunday of the month.
Anyhow on the postcard it says:

Cloverbud Egg Hunt
Time: 3:00-4:30p.m.
Date: April 17, 2011
Place: LAC Fairgrounds
        Round-Up Park

The las Animas County 4-H Council
has some exciting games and activities planned. Hope you can come!

This was all written on the postcard Allyciea got in the mail.
Maybe new children can enroll, I guess it wouldn't hurt to stop by to check it
out to see. I sent this to tell Karen Jo, of the time so she would know. but
ohers might be interested in joining too.

I saw Paula, I mentioned the Graduation day/party, she would like to come to
that but would like to know the date ahead of time, so she can plan to attend.
I like the idea of in May on a Tuesday later on in May.
I'm going to Denver April 30th and back on May 7th, but have a ballet recital
parent meeting to go to May 7th. May 14th and 15th Allyciea is in her ballet
recital. I'm to let paula know of the date the group decides on. Rolonda
