I've been lent a book which publishes a manuscript by John Dee. In the introduction is a Geomantic table. This has 16 figures, and each of these has a name. Four of the names in this table are as follows:
Albus
Rubeus
Fortuna Major
Caput Draconis
I don't need to comment on the first two, but I hope you all realise the second two are passwords for Gryffindor. I hardly know anything about Geomancy, but it's obvious that Jo knows this table. If there is anyone who can explain a bit about Geomancy I'd be grateful.
The book, by the way is called The Rosie Crucian Secrets. John Dee lived from 1527-1608, and of course you all know that his name is cunningly hidden in Part 5 of Harry Potter. The book has many Qabalistic references as well as Geomantic ones. One part is called The Preparation
of the Great Philosopher's Stone.
Another part is also very interesting, because it contains the rules of membership of the classical Rosicrucians. These are also listed in Fama Fraternitatis which was published in 1614 by Johann Andreae. This proves that these rules were not invented by Andreae but obviously existed before then, as Dee died 6 years before the Fama was published.
John Dee also wrote a book called Monas Hieroglyphica, published in 1564. This ties him to the The Alchemical Wedding of Christian Rosycross because the figure about which the book is written is illustrated on the letter of invitation that is handed during the storm to Christian Rosycross (as was Harry's invitation). I think Jo is very carefully dropping hints that Harry Potter is a Rosicrucian story, as I'm sure will become obvious in Part
7.
