Looking for any information on Gilbert Harbor and family.

Born in Pontotoc County Mississippi around 1892, has a WWII Draft card but
deserted the army when was told he would have to go over seas. He was in the
National Guard in Calhoun County Mississippi in 1919. He was living with Moses
Hester and family in Calhoun County in 1920.

He was in Phillips County Arkansas in 1930 on the census he is listed with wife
Florence and children Elvira, Virgil, and Thelma. He was still living there in
1942 according to the draft card and still married to Florence. Gilbert died in
May 1959. I have contacted the local funeral home in Arkansas to see if they
have a listing for him that may shed light on what happend to them later. I can
not find Virgil on the social security death index so am not sure if he is still
alive or not.. he was born in 1928 so he would only be 81 but have been unable
to find a phone listing not that I would be for sure where he might even be
living at this time. His sister Cordelia married James Stone who was my great
grandfather. She was around 20 years older than her brother. Cordelia died
around 1931 - 32 but have been unable to find an obituary for her either.

Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated.

Good Morning Harbour Family,

United we stand. Divided we fall. In God We Still Trust.
His Truth is Marching On. One of my Harbour forefathers fought in the
Revolutionary War in 1776 while serving in the Virginia Militia for 6 months.
The keyword is "Fought." Our Harbour families fought for justice and liberty
against tyranny. Also, our "Harbour" name means "the sheltering of people."
What wonderful noble causes we inherited. We must continue fighting for
injustice and liberty. We must continue to shelter people in peace and in
weathering the storms of life. As for me, the pen is mightier than the sword.
Take time to read the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. It was
"penned" by many of our Nation's forefathers. Take time to read the Bible. It
is our guiding light. It's truth and belief in God distinguishes us. His
truth, our truth marches on. Oh, and on a lighter note, when and where is the
next Harbour Reunion in Patrick County? God Bless You and God Bless America!
Sincerely yours, Kristi

Thank you  Ken, I have the Harbour Book, also. The way I discovered my Harbour line was from a letter written by a Civil War Soldier. The letter was in my greatgrandmother' s Bible. The letter was signed by WJ Harbour to his sister. With that information I discovered my ggg grandmother. who was a Harbour.

Jo Ann, I will be glad to send you a copy of the letter. I am leaving to go on a trip for a few days. I will get the copies when I return. The original letter belonged to a cousin of mine who lived in MI. She died soon after she sent me the copy of the letter. I regret she did not know I had found the Harbour line. The letter was placed in a library along with the rest of her genealogy notes, etc. Your Harbour cousin, Valda. ----- Original Message -----

It's funny that this branch of the Harbour line should be mentioed here, just at this time, when it seems a small part of a large tree. I've recently begun documenting stuff for family again, and I don't know when John Parker Harbour's daughter, Leona Theresa Harbour passed away. She has a very short mention in the book, "Harbours in America" b. 25 Dec 1890.

She was my great-grandmother. One of my aunt's sent me a picture a year or so ago, of me,  my grandmother, and my g-g'ma Leona Theresa Harbour in my grandmother's backyard. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents, so recognize the location well. The picture is date stamped July 1963 (I was 2 years old). This gives me the earliest time when she could've have died, but my aunts and uncles can't remember when it was that she passed away.

I don't remember my g-grandmother. My aunts & uncles refer to her as Grannie Higginbotham. Her first her husband, Van Reid, died in Detroit, March 1929 while visiting my grandparents. Leona remarried to Melton George Higginbotham, who my notes say passed away in Clay, MS in 1963.

If anyone here knows when Leona passed away, it would help me request a death certificate from MDAH. This will help us document eligibility in the Sons of Confederate Veteran's based on John Parker Harbour's service in the 43rd Miss. Infantry, Co. K.

I'm sorry about my earlier post. I didn't tell where the graves
were. These graves are in the western part of Wayne County,
Tennessee is what is called the Harbour Cemetery. I haven't seen the
cemetery, but I believe that there are very few graves.

This is a different Elijah Harbour than yours.

Some of my kin folks have known where Elijah Harbour (Thomas-Talmon-
Elijah) is buried for some time. Because he fought Indians during the
Revolution, the government is providing a grave marker. A cousin of
mine also purchased one for his wife. In the not too distant future,
we're going to have a clean up day and mark those two graves proper.

The title is "The Harbours in America" by Louis J Williams. Published by
Harbour-Harbor-Harber Family Association in Lubbock, Tx in 1982. To my
knowledge there have been no updates.

There is an address and phone # in the front of the book.

Mrs Bettye Atkins Cartwright
Harbour-Harbor-Harber Family Association
70904 Joliet Avenue
Lubbock, Texas 79423

Phone: (806) 795-5136

I was fortunate enough to get mine from a book dealer in California, who had
seen my request on the web.

It is very informative, although not always correct.
