Charity walk for Africa
2 December 2009
Albert & Logan News
DESPITE hot and humid conditions committed locals turned out for a charity walk
at Logan Central on Sunday.
Slacks Creek's Simone Feiler-Clark, who organised the Take the Walk event to
support a charity associated with her favourite band, Hanson, said the event
raised $280 for impoverished African people.
She said Hanson would donate an additional US dollar for each of the 85 people
who joined the walk.
The money goes to five charities that build schools, donate shoes, increase
access to medical care, fund HIV/AIDS clinics and drill water wells.

That's it for now! Make sure you pull out your copy of "Snowed In" this holiday
period!!

Ok so Hanson did not attend the VMAs - Zac's been tweeting while watching it.
He did tweet in response to Kanye West stealing the mic from Taylor Swift during
her acceptance speech -
"Kayne needs to learn how to wait his turn. I am sure he will get plenty of mic
time to say something stupic later in the show - Z"
Tune into MTV @3:30pm to see whether Ruby's interview with hanson made the cut
for her show "Ruby Rocks New York.
That's all for today!

I think they ran the interview without the link - it wasn't in the version I
saw. I added the link for completeness.

Perth fans should pick up a copy of the West Australian to read an interview
with Taylor Hanson. For the rest of us the article is attached -
Today
Grown-up Hanson brother moves on to MMMpop
ARA JANSEN
27 May 2009
The West Australian
Before the Jonas Brothers, before Miley Cyrus and definitely before Taylor Swift
there was Hanson. They cut up the airwaves all over the world with an
irresistible slice of pop silliness called MMMBop.
It was infectious, drove everyone nuts and was a hit made by three cute, blond
Oklahoma brothers barely into their teens.
Believe it or not, Zac, Taylor and Isaac did actually grow up and while Hanson
are still making their own records, middle brother Taylor has also been making
music outside the family nest. His latest solo project is with a celebrated and
respected group of musicians. Calling themselves Tinted Windows, the band
comprise former Smashing Pumpkin guitarist James Iha, quirky Fountains of Wayne
songwriter/bassist Adam Schlesinger and Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos. After
three years and eventually some shows and serious recording time, the result is
their debut self-titled album, which works on the premise of well-crafted pop
songs but has a hint of indie attitude about it.
"It's taken me a long way to get here," says 26-year-old Hanson, the band's
singer. "If I really wanted to get away from pop, perhaps I should have joined a
Neil Young cover band.
"This has been in the works for a few years. I have written with a lot of
writers and working with Adam just worked. We met in the mid 90s and have stayed
friends."
Hanson says from the beginning the quartet had a clear idea of what kind of
sound direction they were going in, paying particular attention to new wave
bands from the early 70s and 80s, the odd lashing of glam rock and power pop and
a nod to Matthew Sweet and the Buzzcocks.
"It's very different to what I am a fan of musically but it's so much fun, and
at the heart of Hanson has always been old rock'n'roll and soul," he says. "This
is about being an artist and performing a different style of music.
"It's about guitars and writing that isn't too ironic or too precious. We're not
out to prove anything, it's a love letter to a certain style of music."
The bulk of the songs were written by Schlesinger, two were written by Iha, one
by Hanson and the closing track by Hanson and Schlesinger. Keeping it in-house,
Iha and Schlesinger produced the album.
Having three songwriters in the band wasn't something the married father of four
was worried about. He says somehow in the context of Tinted Windows, the songs
worked together.
"I have spent my life making music with two other people and having a
collaborative process," he says. "In most bands there is one writer and they are
usually the main creative force so this allows us to go to many places.
"The first song I wrote with Adam was at a songwriters' retreat Hanson have
annually. But for a long while I have aggressively pursued writing with other
people. Everyone knows Hanson have been really prolific but I think
collaborating and reaching out to other artists is essential."
Hanson says talking among the group after their first few shows was interesting
because they all agreed it was cool to be experiencing plenty of "firsts" with
the new band: first live show and first album. "It was exhilarating because we
can never go back to those days of playing local gigs trying to find a small fan
base and not knowing what will happen."
There's a Hanson record due out next year but in the meantime, the singer will
concentrate on touring with Tinted Windows.

Hi Guys,
Just a reminder that the Tinted Windows album is available NOW in all good
recrods stores. JB should have their shipment by tomorrow.
There were two short articles promoting/reviewing the release in the Melbourne
Age and Adelaide Advertiser today:
The Age 21/5:
THE irony of rock music supergroups is they are rarely, well, super. So newly
minted four-piece pop-rock band Tinted Windows had the odds stacked against it
from the start. But the assemblage of musicians is so bizarre that it may just
work. There's Taylor Hanson of Hanson, Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick, James Iha
from Smashing Pumpkins and Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne. The band,
which made its live debut in March at the South By Southwest festival in Austin,
Texas, found an audience willing to give this surprising combination a chance.
The music proved almost a composite of Cheap Trick and Fountains of Wayne -
minus the irony - with a bit of Weezer thrown in. Tinted Windows' easily
consumed brand of power-pop glides by on their enjoyable, if a little earnest,
debut album. Swirling single Kind of Girl is a highlight; We Got Something, amps
up the power chords and Back with You sounds a like a rocked-up version of
Savage Garden. In other words, it's a lark. 3/5
The Advertiser - 21 May 09:
It is not surprising that Taylor Hanson has a serious dependency coffee
addiction to juggle two bands, a record label and four kids.
''You (also) have to have an absolutely incredible wife. She makes it
possible,'' Hanson, 26, says of his wife, Natalie.
He's recording the latest Hanson album with the group he formed with brothers
Isaac and Zac in the 1990s and who shot to fame with their worldwide smash
MMMBop in 1997. It is Tinted Windows, the new band he's fronting with guitarist
James Iha, formerly of Smashing Pumpkins, drummer Bun E. Carlos, from Cheap
Trick, and bassist Adam Schlesinger, from Fountains of Wayne, that he's keen to
talk about.
`The main thing is that the whole core of the style's different. The Tinted
Windows' project is kind of power pop. It's very straight ahead. There are no
soul music influences. It's all late '70s, early '80s,'' he says, grateful to be
able to explore new projects and keep making music with his brothers.
Let us know what you think of Taylor's side project!!
That's it for now!

Hi Guys,
There's an article in today's Herald Sun with Taylor. We note that they state
that the Tinted Windows album is out tomorrow (15th) as we originally stated,
but JB's website has a release date of 22nd, so I guess we'll know tomorrow.

Hanson's singer has joined (whisper it) a supergroup, writes Neala Johnson
You've gone outside the family and made an album under the name Tinted Windows
with Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick, James Iha of Smashing Pumpkins and Adam
Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne. Are you excited to let people see a different
side of you, outside of what you do with Hanson?
Any time you get to grow people's vision of what you're doing and challenge any
preconceptions, good or bad, it's a good feeling. It keeps people on their toes.
But obviously the main reason for doing it is just actually enjoying it. Even if
you were doing something that you thought would really surprise people, if you
couldn't live with it, it wouldn't be worthwhile.
Do you, along with your brothers Isaac and Zac, feel as though you still have
anything left to prove with Hanson?
Anybody, especially somebody who had success and reached a lot of people,
there's always a sense that you're in a race with yourself, wanting the
idealistic perfection. That's what Hanson does. Any artist wants as many people
to hear it and know it as possible, so there's always that sense of striving for
more. But at the same time, I wake up every day thinking, the fact that what we
do is still our job and we have fans and we have kept them more than 12 years
after we put out our first record, is a big deal. It's a little creepy to say
that, to be honest (laughs).
Are you starting to feel old?
No, but your experiences definitely add up.
Bun E. has been in Cheap Trick for almost as long as you've been alive. But in
your short life, you've probably racked up an armoury of rock 'n' roll stories
to rival even his.
Yeah, it's quite odd to be 26 and have had a disproportionate amount of cliched,
rock 'n' roll touring experiences. And living through the industry that's turned
on its head. Bun E. though, he's the master storyteller. Anybody wanting to hear
some colourful stories should get him on the phone.
What were the first Tinted Windows gigs like?
It was definitely exciting to walk out on stage, because we wrote the songs over
a couple of years, played 'em together, recorded 'em, a lot of friends heard
them and said, ``Oh, this is great''. But you're not a real band until you step
on stage. So it was exhilarating to be up there together performing these songs.
I joke that it's kinda funny to just be singing, it's like, ``Gosh, this is a
little too easy. Somebody give me something to play or shake or something!''
You're too used to multi-tasking with Hanson.
Yeah. But just singing, and looking out at the fans and getting people engaged
is a lot of fun to do. Actually Bun E. and Adam and I were saying it's a really
funny thing to be able to play a first show again. Because as a band, even if
you've made like two records, you can never go back to playing songs that no one
knows, or not having a catalogue or those other albums you've made that people
know. So it's refreshing to walk out on stage and have that new-band feeling.
It's an exercise of turning people and getting people excited cold-turkey.
How much ego is there when four successful musos get together in a group like
this?
It's comedic that people have referenced us using the term supergroup, 'cos if
the four of us walked into a room, that'd be the mellowest group of guys,
there's not a lot of bringing in our posse or rock-star surroundings.
Everybody's very low-key.
How did you announce your plans to Isaac and Zac? ``I'm going to form a
supergroup, I'll be back in a few months . . .''
(Laughs) I want to make it clear that none of us have ever used that term! It's
only been used by others. Isaac and Zac at first definitely turned their heads
like ``What? How? When are you going to have time to do that?'' But they're into
it, they're supportive.
You also have to fit this in around raising four children aged from six years to
six months old. How do you manage that?
Well, it's working out OK. I'm just trying to learn from these amazing people
that share my name. They put you in your place. When you're responsible for
other people's lives, everything else that you've been doing seems to pale in
comparison. Of course, the main thing is my wife is just amazing. She makes it
possible for us to hold together all of the things that we do.
Do you have an almost physical reaction when you see a band like the Jonas
Brothers emerge? Do you want to put your arm around them and warn them of what
lies ahead?
Obviously there's the similarities that come from the fact they're brothers. So
before they came out, they were making an earlier record, I heard their stuff,
and immediately thought, you know, whenever you see somebody who carries some
characteristics that are similar, you do have that sense of ``I want the best
for these guys'', because it's not easy to survive through all the things that
are out there. But they've done something very different as far as the way
they've approached their career so far -- the way they put out their music is
different, and for that matter their music is very different. But on the other
side of things, I just hope they have their heads screwed on straight, because
you get a lot thrown at you. The pressure cooker is pretty intense.
buy > Tinted Windows (EMI) out tomorrow.
`` I want to make it clear that none of us have ever used the term supergroup

Rock Boat Done! What Next?
I want to start by saying I am really glad so many people came on The
Rock Boat. I saw a lot of familiar faces, and most of them were
smiling and having a good time (the other ones were in a drunken
stuper). It is not decided if we will be doing The Rock Boat in the
future, but it was a very positive experience.
Right now we are writing for the next album as well as working on the
new membership kit. We are about to do this year's Fools Banquet, and
are also planning a members only event in Tulsa for May. We have been
thinking a lot about the film Strong Enough to Break and when we
might put that out on DVD, as well as what would go with it (extras,
demos, etc.). Keep your eyes and ears pealed for an announcement
about SETB in the next few weeks.
I hope everyone who ordered chocolates enjoys them! For anyone who
did not have a chance to get them...sounds like we need to make more
next time.
All the Best,
Zac
That's all for now!

For anyone who
did not have a chance to get them...sounds like we need to make more
next time.
All the Best,
Zac

Zac Hanson and his wife Kate welcomed a son, John Ira Shepherd
Hanson, on Tuesday in Tulsa, the musician tells PEOPLE exclusively.
The baby boy, who will go by the name Shepherd, weighed in at 8 lbs,
4 oz. "I am so overjoyed," the proud papa, 22, tells PEOPLE. "There
is not an audience or concert that could ever stand up to the feeling
of meeting your baby for the first time."
New mom Kate, 24, is equally happy, saying, "Shepherd is the most
wonderful gift we could ever receive. We're already enjoying every
second of this great adventure."
Though Shepherd is only a day old, he's already got a built-in
playgroup: Cousins Ezra, 5, Penelope, 3, and River, 20 months (middle
Hanson brother Taylor and his wife Natalie's children) and Everett, 1
(eldest Hanson brother Isaac, and his wife Nikki's son).
But Shepherd won't be the baby of the family for long: Isaac and
Nikki will welcome their second child next month.
"It will be really fun to see [the] little ones grow up together,"
Zac told PEOPLE in November. "I know watching them is going to
inspire a lot of music."
