Well, I've never had a *remote* site on a security system but I *have*
had my previous QTH on an ADT system and I give you two big warnings:
1. The normal ADT installation will put unshielded wires emitting
gawd-awful RFI from their microprocessors all through your structure.
I used to have to go through a specific notification sequence with
their control center in order to disarm the system and disconnect
power to their control box in my basement each time I wanted to do any
early-morning weak-signal operating on 160 or 80 meters.
2. When it came time to move, and I had sold my home, ADT refused for
months to terminate my account. They had a very complicated procedure
they insisted departing subscribers follow for "notification" but, in
fact, they always found a reason to keep adding the monthly charge to
my bill. My request for termination of service was bounced from their
regional office to their Pittsburgh HQ, where they could deal with me
from a distance. Their objective, of course, was to get me to
continue the service at my current location. The only thing that
ultimately stopped this corporate stone-walling was a letter from my
attorney, threatening legal action.
If you want some security, get some DIY components and install your
own system so you can do it right. If you insist on going with an ADT-
like system, plan on buying *lots* of ferrite cores....
