Thank you gentlemen (Well most of you anyway). I do hope to upgrade to a
classier rig one day, but not until this one dies a permanent death, the trouble
being that these 'old' rigs are built to last, unlike many of the newer rigs
that are so full of specialised ICs that will not be available in years to
come, and therefore non-repairable.

It has a very primitive CAT interface, which can be used only to command the
radio. (Change VFOs, Frequency, enable/disable functions). The key word
being command, as has been said before if you change anything on the rig it
cannot be read by an external software program, making it all but useless
which is most likely why it is not listed in suit of radios that HRD
supports.

Yes, we can wish, dream and criticize but facts are facts unfortunately.

I would appreciate advice on how to enable the IP server in version 4.

Prior to installing the no-ip DUC I was able to start or stop the IP server
which carried the localhost IP address.

Since installing the DUC The IP server listener will not start and the local
host address remains.

Thanks

Yes, you have it wrong.

The author does realize that people like you are not Rich, he makes the
program FREE for people to use. He does rather hope that one has a
transceiver that will accept CAT commands that can make use of the abundant
features he has built into the program.

Robert please make sure that you follow the steps in the order that was written.
If you still have problems email me direct and I'll be happy to help you out.
Double check your "ALE" and make sure that the boxes are filled in then click
save.
Once you save then it should start adding the "Distance" data.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I'm on my way to mom's.
Will return this evening. Robert don't worry we'll get it going.

No, you shouldn't have to do it everytime. Just once to get it all going. After
that it will add the Distance everytime you add a contact.

The Icom IC-706MkIIG has a CAT interface too, but Icom did not include
ways of programming remotely *everything* that can be changed from the
front panel.

Also:
It has a very primitive CAT interface, which can be used only to command the
radio. (Change VFOs, Frequency, enable/disable functions).

Unfortunately:
1- It cannot change the mode (it has a rotary switch)
2- It cannot report information back (the CAT is
unidirectional)
3- As a consequence of 2 if you make a change in the front panel, it goes
completely unnoticed in the program.

Ron,

Try another Yaesu rig close to the FT-757GX and see if it works. The
command sets seem pretty standardized by manufacturer.

BTW, which interface are you using with you 757GX? The FIF-65, FIF-232C or
???

This was accomplished with the help of José Dumoulin F5JD.
First thing to make clear is that the "ALE" of the Logbook is the one that is
used, not HRD or DM780.
Click on your "Logbook" once it's up click on the green "ADD" icon, this brings
up the proper "ALE" go to
"My Station" and fill in the blanks then click save. There are 10 save fields
choose #1 if you are or will be
operating with different equipment then you can choose a different number and
save. Close the "ALE".
This will be the information that your logbbook will be using.
Once this is done you'll want to update and fill in the blank "Distance"
entries.
To accomplish this bring up your logbook (you should see your entries), then
click Control+A this will
tag all of your logbook entries by turning them all blue. Just above the
entries, there is a menu.
Click the "More" dropdown button, select Bulk Editor/Distance & Heading. Click
Update. Click Finish.
With F5JD's help I finally fixed my logbook as long as there is a locator entry
there will be a "Distance" entry.
Many thanks to José Dumoulin F5JD for his help.

I now use DXBase 2007 for my main logbook and I use the QSO Fowarding
feature
in DM780 to send my digital QSO logging over to DXBase. Just in the last few
weeks
I have noticed that when I have the QSO Fowarding turned on, DM780 does NOT
send
the contact to the HRDLogbook. I would like for the contact to be logged in
DXBase 2007
and also HRDLogbook because as a few more features are added and bugs fixed
I may
want to switch to HRDLogbook as my main logbook. I may be wrong (I was once)
but I
would consider this as a bug and not by design.

Update: The replacement cable from eBay vendor "qmall" arrived today. It
exhibits the same problem as the original cable - that is, intermittent
connection to the radio. The ZLP cable, on the other hand, keeps the radio's
CAT indicator on all the time.

So, it would appear that qmall's CAT cable for the FT-900 has a design flaw
   - probably in the USB-to-serial interface section.

I'm really happy with the combination of ZLP's USB-to-serial interface cable
and serial-to-CAT cable. They just work! I wish I'd bought them to start
   with.

In my log book, under station, I have all the correct infomation placed
in the boxes, and I did hit the save button .  But the "Distance" showing on
the log page for all my contacts is still a "0".  When I make a contact in
DM780 I see the "Locator" and the "D istanc e" top left , and when I sign with
the station, that infomation is not transfered to the log book.

Let me repeat what I said before. Distance and bearings are displayed correctly
if you have a valid locator in the "My Station" field of the logbook and if your
contact has one.

Ruben, KA2HHB, sent me a screenshot showing his locator in DM780. Not he right
place.

All:

Ebay vendor "qmall" wrote that they'd sent a replacement for their
apparently defective cable. As of today, (more than 20 days later) it has
not arrived.

So, last week, I ordered a CAT cable and USB interface from ZLP. It arrived
today and works perfectly.

Thus, we have confirmed that the problem was with qmall's cable. What we
don't know is whether qmall's cables have a design flaw that makes them all
unreliable, or if I just got a bad one.

If qmall's replacement cable ever arrives, I'll give it a try and report the
results here.

Thanks to all who attempted to help me solve this problem!

Thanks, Simon. In case you didn't see, I have a replacement adapter on the
way (of the same model I'm having trouble with). If the replacement works
fine, that'll indicate that my problem all along was hardware failure and
I'll be sure to let you know.

I tried that also. I was the only account on the computer and was set up as
administrator. It was that way on Vista 64 bit, also which is where I set it up
origionaly. When I upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit I was still the only account on
the computer and was administrator. Under windows 7 HRD would run fine but when
I licked on DM-780 nothing would happen. The cursor would chance for a couple
seconds and then nothing. No error message or anything. I tried running it from
the start menu also and nothing. I did as someone suggested and set up another
account for me as a regular user and now HRD and DM-780 run fine if I log on to
the computer as a regular user and not as administrator. Don't understand that
but I have it up and running.

them is showing as a zero "0" in all the columns.  How do I get anything but a
"0" to show in the log book?

I use different My Station settings for each QTH. I have only lived in 1
location since I got my license but I operate /4 when I visit my in-laws in NC
and bring equipment there. I also used K2DSL/140 during the ARRL special event
and have stations logged as that. They are all combined into a single logbook.

I still don't think there's an easy "batch" update to the My Station info in v4
or v5, but what you might be able to do, and how I batch update my contest
entries when importing from N1MM, is to use the HRD Utilities program from
WD5EAE. You'd probably want to export the unique locations (ADIF + HRD as the
export type) into their own logbook temporarily and then using the Logbook
Update utility in his program, update all the records. Then export them (ADIF +
HRD) and import them all into a common HRD DB.

You can download the program off Stephen's pages at
http://wd5eae.org/Software.html

If the above sounds too daunting, contact me directly and I'll see how I can
help walk you through the specific steps.
