Advocacy for haitian nationals currently living in the United States under the U.S Constitution and International Law. Scope include but not limited to human rights and political empowerment in the United States through direct action and national education campaign on issues impacting the welfare and empowerment of Haitian-Americans at the local, state, and federal levels.
The Haitian-American Grassroots Coalition has played key role to ensure passage of the Haitian Refugee Immigrant Fairness Act of 1998, (HRIFA), a landmark legislation providing residency to 50,000 Haitian Refugees who fled their homeland in the 1990's due to political turmoil. The Coalition has been actively involved with the Census 2000 initiative, a national campaign to get minorities and communities of interest to get counted in the U.S Census 2000. As a result, Florida is identified as the state with the largest population of Haitians and West-Indians.
The Coalition has engaged the Miami-Dade County government and the State of Florida to get Haitian-americans to be equal partner in the political process as far as self-representation on the issue of redistricting.
