I agree with this -- run them in parallel. I tried to get fancy on my SQ and modulate the detuned voices with an LFO but I got (you guessed it) audible...

Actually, "Fretless Melody" does use a detuner in parallel with a chorus... which is probably why it's noticeably richer than most others. -Ryan ... ...
