Description
The Gateway Society of Model Railroad Engineers (GSMRE) is a society of model railroaders located in the mid-west centered around the St. Louis, MO area (100-200 mile radius). The society consists of model railroaders that are interested in prototypical modeling using the Free-mo modular concept to build, assemble and operate a model railroad. Mid-west prototypes are emphasized (MP, RI, SL-SF, Wabash, C&NW, L&N, GM&O, etc. and the resulting modern empires such as UP, BNSF, NS, etc.) with mid-west scenes to be featured on the Free-mo layout.
Free-mo is a great modular concept designed to allow the assembly of a point to point model railroad that features a single track mainline with passing sidings. For more information on the Free-mo concept go to http://www.free-mo.org and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Free-mo/. You, as the modeler, can pick your favorite scene on your prototype and create a modularized Layout Design Element (LDE) of that scene. When connected with other modelers LDEs, a fully operational and realistic model railroad is created.
Membership in this Yahoo Group is NOT limited to GSMRE members. Any modeler interested in Free-mo and/or mid-west themed model railroading is welcome to join, lurk, post and contribute. All membership requests do require approval by the moderators. The first few posts by a new member will be moderated so don't fret if your post takes a little time before it shows up on the list.
